OK, before any more damage gets done to this poor user (or any other naive people out there), I'll clarify:
No you don't have to do anything special with your CD/DVD discs for FFXI before installation. Just put them in like any other game and install. The people above are just making some lighthearted jokes; don't take them seriously.
You'll need an internet connection (dialup modem, DSL, cable-modem, or satellite modem) to play FFXI, so if you don't have that, you won't be able to connect to the game servers and you'll have wasted your money.
You'll need a valid credit or debit Mastercard or Visa, or get a virtual one via Epassporte: http://www.Epassporte.com (note the spelling) to set up and pay for your monthly fee.
And before any more damage can be done here, I'm going to lock this topic, since people obviously can't resist the urge to not help a newcomer who doesn't know anything about the game. slap_u_silly, if you have further questions, feel free to send me a private message.
