    Re: Hackless Speed Hack Bug

(so that's what intel calls it)
yes, AMD's version is called Cool n' Quiet.

Both do not overclock your CPU, they underclock it to save power & lower heat. However, they will ramp up the clock speed back to normal if it deems an operation to require more CPU processing.

    Thanks Yyg!

I too have seen this on my Dell M70 laptop.

My WHM was running at some insane speed across Jeuno, just after the update for ToAU. I ran from Mea to Mhuara in about 2.5 minutes, overtaking people on chocobos. \o.O/

5 minutes after my motherboard blew up on me so it had to be replaced. Post new motherboard no free flee for me.

I could still see an underclocking causing the same effect. My bet is the FFXI game probably is reading the clock speed at start and basing it all off that, so if it sees your system at a lower clock speed it uses that but when your system goes to a higher clockspeed it doesn't compensate and causes the speed hack issue.

Sounds like to easy a fix though, just sounds like correcting it to find the systems true cpu speed instead of the lower set one. Would think there is a API command they could rely on to get that info.

LOL, rethinking it they probably didn't because it then makes it were you are starting to version the game out to much. Then you'd need to add the API function for the PC version and keep it out of the PS2 and XBox ones.

I'm going to have to keep all this stuff in mind, just incase it ever happens to me... My first reaction would probably be to call a GM... But now, I'm not so sure. >_>

My friend had this happen to him before but its his COMPUTER
            he runs somethinglike
            dual core processor
            2gb ram
            RAdeon XT1700 (no typo)
and a bunch of other nice gadgets

He was skipping around Counter-Strike like a bat outta hell... Got banned from 6 servers in 6 mins (poor guy) and the such

As for FFXI he doesnt play but if he did it would prolly happen there too... :-]

              Re: Hackless Speed Hack Bug

just got done reading all of this... and I have just a few things to say.

Firstly, I have met [GM]Luminious IN PERSON and he is actually a really cool guy. It was funny because I met him in Santa Monica at the FFXI Fan Festival and we talked for like an hour. He even remembered a little fued he and I had a while back. But he explained alot of how things worked and clearified alot of my assumptions about how GMs handle things. He said if they can not detect anything, they have no other choice but to give that person a warning and report it in there database. He said, "Think about it this way, if a car is driving down the street at 50mph and the speed limit is only 30, what do the cops do? The cop will minimum give the person a warning, and if it happens again, they take action because its unfair to othe drivers that 1 person can break the law but others cant." so if you think of it that way I can understand what he did and the logic behind it.

As for your computer problem, I cant add anything more to what has already been said. I really hope things work out for the best.

Just a note: If you use this, and get caught, and have any warnings on your account at all, you will be banned.

They will not listen to your story.

That's an old glitch. Seen it a few times in Waters, and I hear it happens in Port too.

Exploits are no different then a hack, it's in our Forum Rules to not post exploits here. Sorry Sweetkitty don't think any mod will back you here on that.

                                Re: Hackless Speed Hack Bug

I've seen this sort of thing myself but not in FFXI. I've experienced it personally in WoW and someone else I know has had it happen in PlanetSide (and then fraps'd and posted on the forums as a hacker...). The fix in both cases was to crank the windows graphical acceleration slider down to half, enter the game, leave the game, put it back to full and go back to the game.

I've been asking everywhere and nobody has a solid answer (just vague guesses) why a spastic video card would interfere with position updates. The assumption is that the game is very dependant on the client (see: gold farming teleport hacks in WoW) and that something with the video is incorrectly (in a general sense) reporting location and the server is just saying "ok, thanks." instead of verifying as some games do.

                                FIC AU13 (nvidia)
                                6600gt 128mb (not overclocked)
athlon xp 2400 (both overclocked [166x12] and stock [133x15])
                                crucial ram pc2700 1gb

all current drivers and directx. I don't remember it happening with my previous video card (9600pro 128) but it did happen with both sound cards (diamond mx300 and sblive24).

I'd say that the slider tweak would be the bandaid fix in need except that my friend and I always had to log out of the game to fix it. It never corrected speed on its own. Still, it's worth a shot.

And if anybody knows exactly why the slider dinking was the fix in our case, I'd love to hear it.
