When will I enjoy the expansions?

Hi!

After a long pause (with PC) I joined again for the 360-version of the game, but I asked myself: When will I enjoy the new expansions?

Do I have access to all the new areas of the world right from the start e.g.? Or is is the stuff for high level players only?

Access? Yes. It's not terribly difficult to get access to the new areas.

Can you do anything with them once you get there? That's a different story. Enemy-wise, there appears to be nothing below level 67 anywhere that I've seen - not a single creature that isn't at least Easy Prey to 75.

You can still activate the new jobs however, as none of them involve fighting to acquire (Puppetmaster, Blue Mage, Corsair), and quite a few of the quests are doable at any level for the same reason.

Well for Corsair you do need a fang key but if you go tag along with a group, you only need one to open the door for everyone.

You'll need sneak and invisible though so you'll either need sneak oils and prizm powders, have the spells, or have someone take you that has the spells. And if you go with someone that is going to sneak and invis you, PLEASE make sure to tell them that your sneak or invis is wearing as soon as the first warning appears! I helped people this weekend get the quests done and several times I didn't know that it wore off till it appeared in my log and then it was too late. Best way to do this is to make a couple of macros BEFORE you leave. Have one for sneak and one for invis and as soon as you get a warning hit the sucker to let them know its wearing.

Well for Corsair you do need a fang key but if you go tag along with a group, you only need one to open the door for everyone.

The key can be gotten from a ??? mark just past the second tunnel you go through to get to the Corsair zone. It is guarded by a undead flesh, but a simple sneak will let you get the key, no fighting involved.

Rise of the Zilart: The storyline is for high level players (60+) only; you can't even start it until you reach Rank 6 in your national missions. Some new areas are available (and useful) from level 25 or so; others are locked and require storyline progression, or are accessible but there's nothing to do there at low levels. RoZ jobs can be gotten at level 30, but you may need some help with the quests since they often involve boss fights.

Chains of Promathia: Most areas are locked and can't be accessed until you progress in the storyline, but you can start it at level 30 (you won't be finishing until 70+, but you unlock more areas progressively the further you get). A few areas are accessible to anyone, but most of those you can't do anything useful with until 30ish anyway (in some cases higher). CoP has no new jobs.

Treasures of Aht Urhgan: Several areas are accessible immediately but you can't do much except shop and get the new jobs and mog locker, and a few running-around-town quests. New jobs can be gotten at 30 if you're good at avoiding aggro - no fighting is required. It looks like some Assault content is aimed at 50ish chars and then goes up from there. Most "just wandering around" monsters are high level. There is likely to be more content added over the coming months.

So, overall, you can't do much in expansions until you are 30 or close to 30, and even then, some expansions offer little aside from the extra jobs. The higher level you get to, the more expansion content you can reach (most content for 60+ players is in expansions). Fortunately, it probably won't take more than a month, maybe two, to reach 30 in at least one job (depending on how often you play).

Thus far, I'm having a lotta fun with the new content.

I was never a Quest person. I did quests so I could get gil, or item that sell, or items I want to use. Outside of that, I don't bother with them much. Suddenly I find myself doing every quest I can get my hands on in the new areas.

This may be because I've been playing since NA Beta, and I know a lotta the story. Now I have new areas to explore and toy around with, and I don't know the full story. What of the BLU Vs COR Story line I've gotten so far, it intrigues me, and I wanna do Assault ASAP. I've hardly left Aht Urhgan Whitegate (AUW) since I got that. I left twice yesterday for EXP with my DRK and WAR, and I immediately Warp'd back to work on quests.

My only dislike about the new areas, are the damn ferries. It takes 45 minutes to get from Mhaura to Nashmau. I hope there's a Teleport out there coming out soon. So we can by pass going all the way to Mhaura and that super long boat ride.

(Even setting HP in AUW, and using the NPC WHM who's doing Teleport-Jeuno can be annoying. Despite the amusement you get from showing up on the top of the Ruins in Rolanberry Fields and Sauromugue Champaign. lol)

lol i seen a pirate an a blu around 35. an here i am an just got my 3rd new job to 12. i have to agree. way to much time. especiaslly if you have to learn blu spells for hjours on end.

Couple of people have a static PT in my LS and are level 42 as of tonight on BLU and PUP.

Yeah Stephen's way up there now. I didn't see him last night but I wasn't really looking for him either - he was level 38 PUP 2 days ago though - undoubtedly well over 40 by now, maybe even level 50+.
