What about Final Fantasy XI for PS3? what will happen?

    i wrote Square Enix and heres what i said and they said

    Heres what I wrote:

    I know that the Xbox 360 got a copy of FFXI. But what about when the PS3 comes out does that mean that people on playstaion are left out? I know alot of people say well, go and get another PS2 well the Slim ones can't hold a harddrive. And the first PS2's the bigger ones that you put the hardrive in ARE VERY HARD TO FIND. If your PS2 Quits ya. So where does that leave Us? I can't afford a "gameing PC"
    I am not the only one wondering this. I have friends on the game that wonders the same thing.
    Will we be able to play the ps2 ver on the PS3? or will there be a whole new ver?
    I know Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack is coming out. And I think to myself why would they make a new expansion pack if it can't play on PS3?

    Our parent company, SQUARE ENIX of Japan, has no current plans to create a sequel to that particular title at this time. This is not to say that it will never happen, it's just that their development teams are currently focusing on numerous other projects.

        Did you honestly expect to hear anything from PlayOnline besides "I'm sorry, we can't do anything for you or tell you anything"?

          Personally I could care less about resolution but that's just me. I don't get what all the hub bub about HD and all that is. Then again I'm the kind of person that cares more about FPS and the game "looking" better. Example: I play Oblivion at 800x600 since I can't stand having to turn real time lighting and things like distant buildings off since it looks 'wrong' and destroys the immersiveness of the game.

          Now the increased view distance is nice but it can also be done on PC easily enough.

          And that POL response is typical PR, so it really means nothing. If the PS3 comes equipped with a hard drive I fully expect to see SE making sure FFXI works on the PS3 and perhaps making a patch available and "relaunching" the game on PS3. Don't expect any real graphics upgrades though.

            Whilst discussing the similarities of the Xbox 360 and Windows operating systems, which has made the process of porting the game from PC to Microsoft's next-gen console a relatively simple task, Tanaka stated that a PS3 version of the game would take roughly two to three years to produce, because it would effectively need to be redeveloped from scratch.

            Tanaka feels that the development time required to bring the latest version of the immensely popular franchise to Sony's machine would be better spent on developing an entirely new game - which is exactly what his team are working on achieving - effectively seeming to rule out the possibility of FFXI ever appearing on the PS3, although it's likely that the PS2 version of the game will continue to work on the new hardware.

                my questions was will the PS3 see FFXI or will the ps2 Ver. Work on PS3?

                  The 2nd and 3rd links hint at an entirely new MMO, fyi. Can't wait for that. I think Taz had a couple of pics from that. I'll ask her later, I suppose. . .

                    They are all speculation. We take tidbits of what we hear and we try to apply them to what we know, add in a bit of our desires, and you get a heaping bowl of speculation. We've heard so many times about things they say before a release and when the actual release comes about 50% of what they said is hogwash and some flat out lies. So patience is about all we can have as we sit and wait to see what the future holds.
