  • What about Final Fantasy XI for PS3? what will happen?

I am a VERY loyal player to this game.
I spend to much time on it hehe.
I know that the Xbox 360 got a copy of FFXI. But what about when the PS3 comes out does that mean that people on playstaion are left out? I know alot of people say well, go and get another PS2 well the Slim ones can't hold a harddrive. And the first PS2's the bigger ones that you put the hardrive in ARE VERY HARD TO FIND. So where does that leave Us? I can't afford a "gameing PC"
I am not the only one wondering this. I have friends on the game that wonders the same thing.
Will we be able to play the ps2 ver on the PS3? or will there be a whole new ver?
I know Treasures of Aht Urhgan expansion pack is coming out. And I think to myself why would they make a new expansion pack if it can't play on PS3?

So Please anyone with comments or Links or anything about this please left me know. I

i knew someone whout ask this question well, My ps2 prolly wont last as long as the PS3 so here let me put in my Quote "And the first PS2's the bigger ones that you put the hardrive in ARE VERY HARD TO FIND. So where does that leave Us?" that means if our older model PS2 quits working then what?

Allegedly, the PS3 is 100% reverse compatible and comes with a HDD standard.

I was going to say the same thing. I wouldnt make since if ffxi didnt work if the ps3 was compatible with ps2 games. Even if it dosent work for what ever reason, SE is making another MMORPG (see tech demo of the city above the lake w/ long bridge) for the PS3 and PC and, although it wont be FFXI or spinoff, it looks to be alot like it and may as well be better than ffxi. ^^~

The PS2 playes PS1 games, doesn't it? Why wouldn't the PS3 play PS2? From a marketing standpoint its brilliant, it fits with what Sony has done in the past, and it would keep them on top. Personally, I think its a no brainer to say that any PS2 game (short of those with HORRID programming) will work on PS3.

The real question is... can PS3 handle UMD...?

I just think they need to upgrade the Video-over-Net Framerate of games so I can play it on my PSP. THAT would be sweet...

Re: What about Final Fantasy XI for PS3? what will happen?

PS3 is suppose to have an enhanced PS2 emulator and PS1 emulator in it. Unlike the PS2 which wasn't really an emulator, the PS2 had many similar components to the PS1 just some more updated stuff to help it outperform the game consoles at that time so the made a sort of goofy rig to it so it would play PS1 games but of course was only like 95% compatible.

With the PS3 it's full blown emulations that are suppose to also take advantage of the graphic upgrades that the PS3 provides. So the PS3 technically is suppose to be capable of playing any PS2 but with better graphical abilities then the PS2 had. Got to remember the PS3 is using a sort of CISC and RISC hybrid design, that means the system isn't hardcoded with instructions on how to handle graphical information it gets.

Instead the developers can build and tweak it how they want which means they could take old TnL instructions that the old graphics chips would of read and write in their own process of how it should translate it back out when it reaches the screen. Of course this is all just boasting of what Sony said that in theory it'll be capable of, have to wait and see how the actual practice to it ends up.

Either way the compatibility design for the PS3 is suppose to be far better then the PS2 was for PS1 games.

Yes it will have a hard drive but will the game and harddrive be comapatiable? is what I wanna know. see when u buy the PS2 Harddrive it had FFXI on it so u didnt have to configure it.
