After everyone I talked to, only now I found out that changing Character name is this badly forbidden.....

And it could be argued that using the Return to Vanadiel Campaign to create a name change is an abuse of it, since its not what it was intended to be used for.

I can't read that anywhere. But I talked to GM's before, they weren't even half as unhelpful as he was!

My guess, is if you could change your name it would make it somewhat more difficult to keep track of things that are still in your delivery box, as well as any warnings or previous actions taken against you by a GM. The want as little as headache as possible, so they just decide to not let it be allowed.

I think it is a recent change to the rules. I'm actually in the process of doing it myself. We'll see what happens.
& actually, I made a GM call about it also. The guy never said anything about it being logged... he seemed like he was going to be nice about it...

Oh well! At least I transfered all my expensive items to mules.

Suspended just means temporary, right? When I spoke to the GM, he said "actions may be... taken against your account."

Anyways, I think Caspian nailed it. Changing names would cause a lot of confusion considering if name changing was allowed, a lot of ppl would do it.

Oh I forgot. When I e-mailed POL about it, I didn't get an automated reply. (suprise!)

They seemed to almost suggest doing what I am doing at the moment.

I can understand changing your name if its a violation or if the server you are moving to already has a character using the name you chosen, but to delete your character and "undelete" it just to change the name seems a little excessive.

I wouldn't see the point in doing it unless you have just gotten sick of your character's name, but that just seems all the more reason to carefully consider what you are naming your character before you accept it.

I think the GM had a point with what he said. One way or another, GM's aren't going to let the players use loop-holes to exploit the system, no matter what the situation involves.

Off-topic: Personally, I wished they did give an option to change the character's hair. That is probably the only thing I would really like to see done in terms of allowing character modifications.

I don't see that he was unhelpful. He just gave you answers you didn't like.

They probably don't want people doing this, and thus threatened you with possible action on your account, because it's a huge pain in the butt to recover and restore the "deleted" data, and even more so if a complication like changing a character name comes up. Changing a character name isn't something that's normally done. Even for people with inapproprate names, the official course of action is to tell you to delete your character and start over.

If I were the guy that had to dig up your character data, edit the file with your new username, and do whatever else it takes to make it active again on the server, with the understanding that hundreds or possibly thousands of these actions needed to take place, I would be pretty unhappy to find out that I had extra work because a handful of people wanted something as trivial as a name change.

When I used the last Return Home to get my Samurai back (Originally named Wycked), I had since, before the program started but after losing Wycked, started again after losing my original character. Played as Intensity for 6 months, during which time my wife made a mule named Wycked. Participated in Return Home and was forced to change my previous characters name (Now Darkcyde) due to my wife now having a mule of the previous name. I wan't trying to work the system though, it just happened. But yes, it is possible.

On a side note. If you go to a Judge and say, "I want to smoke pot legally, would it be bad if I faked illness to get a script for it?" Would this be alright? I didn't think so. And regardless of the difference in situations, it's based on the same principle.

You should choose the name you feel content with in the first place.
