2/5, almost there! It was totally worth it, as long you don't delete my post.

I spent a while on that history of vana'diel site and ruined the rest of the Windurst missions for myself.

Know which quests or missions cover the towers in Sarutabaruta and Beaucedine? That's something I've been curious about for the longest time, but haven't ever run into the quests to figure out.

Well, it all counts. Pso'Xja is obvious. You will find out more in CoP. Also, there is a quest in Upper Jeuno with a name like "Reputation in Ruins" which you can start in the church. Windurst storyline explains a lot as well, of course, History of Vana'diel is crappy site(do I get a warning for this?) it won't even tell you the interesting parts.

So: Windurst(actually do it), CoP, and Reputation in Ruins. You might also find some more details on POL, but I don't know. Uggalepih is also pretty connected.

No warning, but if you keep being helpful I'll start chipping away at your bad rep.

Note that I was posting to another person and not you BRP. That post said they loved reading about that stuff and so the link I provided is applicable. He enjoys a good story and the story there is enjoyable. If you have a problem with that site then take it up with the author and not me, maybe you could work out a joint venture.

Yeah a real fun read. Destroys the game, but its a real fun read. This is a spoiler-free topic, it would be best if you removed it.

Re: The confusion of the area: Altepa

I just completed 8-1 and 8-2 today, so I'm getting a better understanding of the whole story.

                  As for the questions above:

Galkans were in Kuftal Tunnels at one time. Why? I'm guessing they either made their home:

                  (1) There or ...
                  (2) Somewhere in Cape Terrigan or Valley of Sorrows ...
                  (3) Or in the Altepan Desert.

In 8-2, you will find out about the plight of the Galkans and the issues that plague their society right up to the current timeframe.

I think when I complete 9-1, I'll get an even better understanding of the situation. Apparently in 9-1, the mission takes you even further towards Gustav Tunnel. I'm starting to believe that the Galkans were a race akin to Dwarves in folklore (i.e., Lord of the Rings) and they liked to toil away in the mountains, making their homes there.

At least, that's what it appears to me.

I also got a special cutscene with Cornelia, Karst's daughter (Not Cornelia the elite monk of Mythril Musketeer) which you can get if you have access to the presidential area through the doors Iron Eater guards. I'm not sure after what mission this occurs.

I got plenty of screens and I suppose I could post them, but then I'd be ruining (spoiling) the story for people. In my opinion, Bastok's mission story-line is quite sorrowful and will show you the many dark sides of that "young" nation's history (You catch a glimpse of this when you go through the missions to obtain Rank 5)

You can further open up the "side" parts to the main mission storyline by completing the various quests in Bastok, in particular quests originating in Bastok Mines district.

                  Good stuff

Damn, now you're making me intersted in the Bastok missions. But I don't want to give up my outpost teleports or take time away from PMs...

As for BRP's idea of creating a spoiler-free history site: Not gonna work. Without spoilers you practically can't discuss the ancient era at all, can't talk about what really happened to the Multinational Expedition, the causes of the crystal war, what happened to Tavnazia, or who built all these ruins around Vana'diel (e.g. Delkfutts, Fei'Yin, QSC, Uggalepih, Pso'Xja) and how they became ruined, to take a few examples.

The EXISTENCE of the ***** is a spoiler for some missions - never mind who they really were, what they did or where they are now.

The name of the expansion, Rise of the Zilart, implies that there are something called Zilart, but you really can't discuss them *at all* without spoiling some missions.

There's a lot of interesting things to say about Vana'diel's history, but you can't say them without spoilers.

At most, you could compile information from the monument quests etc., but even *that* could be considered a spoiler by someone who wanted to find out themselves by doing the quest and actually reading the inscriptions on the monuments instead of ignoring them.

Really? I've been doing just fine so far without a site.

Without spoilers you practically can't discuss the ancient era at all
Nothing important happened in our world after 2000 BC? People ignore a lot of the importance that went into the tribes becoming nations, Windurstian empire, San d'Orian empire, and ect.

can't talk about what really happened to the Multinational Expedition
That is what the game is for.

the causes of the crystal war
The Shadow Lord appeared. He used fear, promises, and raw power to create an alliance between all the Beastmen. The Orcs were overpowered, the Quadav wanted rank, and the Yagudo wanted to get back their land that the Tarutaru had stolen.

                          what happened to Tavnazia
As far as any player is concerned, it was caused by a secret weapon malfunction by the Beastmen. If you want to learn more, play the game.

who built all these ruins around Vana'diel (e.g. Delkfutts, Fei'Yin, QSC, Uggalepih, Pso'Xja) and how they became ruined, to take a few examples.
The Zilart and Kuluu did, that is obvious. The Church of San d'Oria, and the general population, believe that those people fell into ruin after trying to reach Paradise.

The EXISTENCE of the ***** is a spoiler for some missions - never mind who they really were, what they did or where they are now.
Zilart? You've always known they existed.

The name of the expansion, Rise of the Zilart, implies that there are something called Zilart, but you really can't discuss them *at all* without spoiling some missions.
There was once an ancient people that had many advances such as mining, planting, airships and cermet. They perished after trying to reach Paradise. There are many who study the Ancients. The Archduke of Jeuno himself was the student of such. He came into power by spreading his knowledge of the ancients: Crystal syntheis, airships, and an entire populus living in a single building(tower).

There's a lot of interesting things to say about Vana'diel's history, but you can't say them without spoilers.
Really? Then what have I been saying this entire thread?

At most, you could compile information from the monument quests etc., but even *that* could be considered a spoiler by someone who wanted to find out themselves by doing the quest and actually reading the inscriptions on the monuments instead of ignoring them.
That is borderline spoilous. In my opinion there three things that a fact can qualify for to become a spoiler(at least, in this game) : Hasn't happened yet, replaces a fact known at the start, and/or has a lot of shock value. It is realistic to say that Ironheart(or at least Enid, his daughter) wrote many books about his exploration and that a lot of it is common knowledge(he named the shallow waters that became Selbina).

I fell to see your point. This isn't WoW, where everyone should come into the game knowning as much knowledge as an ancient god would.

A site about History is to HELP, not play the game for you.

Hmm quite a read. On a side note, I really enjoyed the Windurst Missions & Summoner Quests & AF. It really engulfs you within the storyline of what happened ages ago. Also the Tribune is very helpful with that as well. The website that TGM pointed out contains all of that in there, which there isn't very much of a need to go through the game unless you like watching cut scenes. The only thing that the website made that does not spoil, are the Cinematics that SE has put in. Sometimes the Cinematics are much more defined and draw out a lot more emotions than any written story could. Sometimes...

That site misses out on a lot and some of it is even wrong. Galka were never good sailors, for whatever reason that site says so.

It is seriously pathetic. Some people just don't get it. Its like reading the entire script of FF6. A better site would explain the backstory, not tell you the plot.

Either way, I don't want that site or its contents mentioned again in this thread. However, I'd gladly debate you can learn the history of Vana'diel without spoilers.
