Well, we are talking about Bastok here. There're no ants-coming-down-the-hole problems that a few k of dynamites can't solve. :D

The differences are even greater between Hume and Galka. Remember that Galka are genderless people who live far longer than a Hume can even dream of. I dare interject that at the time of Galka exodus, those two people probably have almost no commonality at all, cultural or otherwise. We, as people, usually distrust difference, and it is also the case here.

Interesting thread. I always thought that QC was Galka's old home. I really like this kind of threads, keep it going please!

Think about the mechanisms inside QC, takes one galka to open a door, it's the only race that can open the doors all by themselves, maybe it really was their city..

I only know ED was built by elvaan.
GL having similar architecture could be elvaan too.

Yeah, I did af2 for rng already and I had to go to the graves portion and examine a big headstone of a mithra. Didn't know the elvaan built it, but knew it was a giant cemetary thats bad news now.

The Elvaan. However, it was probably awhole lot different than we know it. There was no basement floor, the tunnels probably ran through the entire region(instead of one tiny corner), and were connected to all the towers. It's pretty obvious that the towers servered as the most important part. However, Windurstian and Yagudo forces(or how the legend says it, three tarutaru mages) cleared house. Many years later, the Allied Forces used the ruins(what we know). However, once a Yagudo found out, a beastmen legion(Orc and Yagudo I believe) killed everyone inside. Somewhere in the two conflicts, the basement floor was created.

I like the little slave lingo going on the side. Its like debating and discussing whether Squaresoft wanted to subject a race to the same mistakes of the real world. As long as we don't see a new word for Galka's in general, seperate water fountains, and special areas on boats and airships designated for galka, something like an underfurnished, dank hold.

BRP you seem to know a lot of those things. How do you learn all that? Through quests and missions? Or is there a good site with that info? Guess is through Q/M, gonna keep more attention this time. I love reading about all those things

Re: The confusion of the area: Altepa

The Galka situation is there because of economics and the fact that they can not vote/run for office. There are no laws forbidding Galka to do anything a Hume can't. It is simply hard to get out of poverty(adventurers and career soldiers do, but a lot of them die in the process). It is not only Galka, but a lot of Bastok is poor. There is the few rich that live on Gold Street or are in the Senate, and there are the many poor who live on Ore Street or are miners or potato farmers. Bastok(and whatever villages it might have unaccessable) is the only place where Galka are disabled like this. Bastok has it the toughest and has the highest amount of poverty.

                      Double Post Edited:
www.playonline.com has more information than any quest or mission will tell you. Everything else I find in the game, and I use basic rules of cause and effect to connect everything.

Poverty is almost impossible get out of in a society with very few jobs. Where do I get very few jobs from? Bastok is barren land with rich ore, but only potatoes will grow. You can only sell so many potatoes in one day. You can only sell so many ore a day[Actually, it looks as if companies take the ore and pay the miners]. Where did I get the Galka career soldier/adventurer being able to escape poverty from? First off, we all know how rewarding adventuring can be. Second, Delzakk(might be off here, he is the Galka adventurer you might encounter if you spawn a character in Bastok) has a (big) house in Bastok Markets. With nations like Arh Urgan and possibily even Windurst always looking for mercenaries, there is no shortage of jobs. Finally, if the draft(yes, this does exist in Bastok; it probably happened in the Great War) happens, rich Hume used to pay Galka to take their place. These Galka often become Career soldiers or join the republic army. It also to important to point out, no other nations have to deal with this (amount of) poverty, so there is no racial tension. Aht Urgan sounds like it has its fair share of racial classes and poverty. We will see a similiar situation most likely, if not a more extreme one(poor areas are raided by Beastmen).

Yeah, Bastok Mines looks more impovershed, while Markets, Port, and Metalworks look much better and seem to be of the higher class.

Re: The confusion of the area: Altepa

I forget if it was the POL site or my ROZ instruction booklet, but one did state that the ruins inside Quicksand caves were a Galka city, over-run by Antica and then sunk into the sand.

The names, it really depends on you talk to in game. Galka have two names, their Galka names (Raorimm, Zeid, Dalzakk) and then their Hume names, given to them because Humes have trouble pronouncing Galka names. Most of the young Galka don't care that the Humes call them Charging Chocobo or Dark Clouds, and think the older Galka are too hard headed. While most of the older Galka consider names like "Iron Eater" to be slave names and only go by their Galka names.
This is the average, but there are wide variations across the mean. The more quests you do the easier it is to see that.

Nothing I've said is spoilous, and nothing comes from that site. You know all of it at the start of the game. I will never outright say, in a thread like this, say anything that spoils the story post-rank 3. It upsets me how easy it is to get the story ruined for you. Apparently my fellow 'story buffs' don't realize why the stories are so entertaining.

One day I'll make a website, probably a wiki, that will tell the true history of Vana'diel. No spoilers. No hurting FFXI's element of wonder and mystery. Simply facts that give depth to the game, not take it away.
