  • Mentoring or sidekick program?

    Hi all;

    New to FFXI. Will be bringing a friend on board as well. I'm wondering if there is a sidekick type of program within game much like City of Heroes. In that game, a high level character can party with a low level character. Is there something similar in FFxi?

    The reason i ask is because, I will need to know how close in level I must remain to my friend. Please keep in mind that we are starting from the bottom.

    Thanks!

    if you get him a gold worldpass, your level (if higher) will be capped at his. there is no sidekick (which was pretty crappy in CoH imho) feature.

    However, since you are both starting new, just try to keep same - 1 level apart. It's not hard to do since there are so many jobs to choose from. Just select 1 job that you will level with him and level others on your own time.

    Thanks Yyg!

      Ah, Ok I get it. So if I have a warrior at 30, I choose a paladin job which is at 10 and I can group with my friend who has a level 10 red mage with the paladin job?

      Good system, I like it!

        yes.

        just keep in mind that advanced jobs, paladin being one of them, can only be unlocked after you reach 30 on (any) another job and completing a quest.

        Thanks Yyg!

          Also, so you don't run into many other problems besides the ones that can't be helped.

          If you're planning on "static"ing with your friend, either choose jobs that comliment each other, or are both always wanted in parties. Otherwise, you're going to be waiting along time to either put your own parties together or waiting even longer to get both of you invited to the same party at the same time.

              Also, I feel it is important to note that the items used to cap your level (Sprout Beret and Guide Beret) can only be retrieved 40 days after the Gold World Pass has been purchased (you must talk to the NPC you bought your GWP from).

              Also, in case you weren't aware, on your first day, the invited player recieves 12 chocopasses. There are additional items which can be aquired after 100 days and 365 days.

                I actually liked the sidekick system on CoH, but on this game it's a lot less useful. Like others have said, you can just switch to a different job to play on your own time, so you don't get too far ahead of your friend.

                Although the other system on CoH (mentor? I can't rememeber the name...) wouldn't do much here. Since on CoH you get debt for dying, but don't actually lose exp, and the system of lowering your level to clear debt faster wouldn't apply. :x

                  I think that was called Exemplar, and if I understand right it works a lot like the caps you get from the gold world pass.
