Re: Is it possible to ... dupe items?

TGM, the way I understood the original post is that they just saw something that seemed rather odd, a person on auto-run continually trying to use a tool bag (yes, it could very well be someone just being a retard, but it could also potentially be a bot glitching out). Aeni was asking if duping items was still possible and showed a video and other odd things that provided nothing more than circumstantial evidence. It could be that its all nothing more than coincidence, but at the time it seemed odd enough to take note of.
On the flipside, Siber has a good point. If they're ballsy enough to be running around the Jeuno AH doing it, I wouldn't think one person emoting them would mean a whole hell of a lot to them.

Re: Is it possible to ... dupe items?

Aeni stated that she wasn't going to make any accusations but then through the thread basically did. I see only conjecture and no solid proof that this person is doing what she assumes they are. The video is too short and the screenshots show nothing. Does it look weird and make you wonder? Yes. Is it worth possibly ruining the name of this person or getting them slammed with "Hey how do you dupe!!?" /t's? No. So I'll err on the side of "who knows" since its just too vague to hurt someone over.

Re: Is it possible to ... dupe items?

I'd suggest just reporting it to the Devs through the POL bug report thingy. Give as much details as you know, and what you think it might be. They can take a look from there.

I'd really hate to see a duping method pop up in FFXI. I've seen it ruin other games.

lol, this made me crack up. Don't think that was what GrandMom ment, close but not really it. She's going with the idea "Inocent till proven guilty", which I do have to agree the information present isn't enough to convict them of anything.

I just mearly tossed up a theory that could answer the behavior, it will answer it too if the code was done incorrect in a section there. Given that players are able to move themselves through a zone by a hack I don't see this being any different in the same respects.

Re: Is it possible to ... dupe items?

Ninja tools usually go for more in stacks of 99 rather than in toolbag stacks from what I've seen. I notice the price jumped up as that person's stacks started selling, so a possible explanation is they noticed the AH was about to run out of Kawahori-Ogi stacks and bought a stack of Toolbag(Kawa) to sell unbundled for a quick buck. My friend does this on eBay. Minus running into a wall of course.

                Double Post Edited:
Oh, another thing. The "Actions started on/by others" chat filter (I think that's the right one) filters out the use of items from your chat log, but does not filter out the error messages if a spell or item use is interrupted. This would explain why you saw error messages as she was running, and then when she turned off auto-run you still saw the item getting used but got no message.

                Double Post Edited:
The more I think about it, the more this seems like the only reasonable explanation. I find it hilarious that people have been running around the past couple days running into walls trying to duplicate this exploit that turns toolbags into stacks of ninja tools

Serious people have been trying that? Yeah, taskmage yours is quite reasonable as well. I think that to be the more likely reason of what's going on.

Re: Is it possible to ... dupe items?

At least Tsikuro and TGM did.

I might add, ninja tools are easy to mass produce. A single stack of crystals makes 4 stacks of tools assuming you don't HQ at all. As with any high demand item, it's very easy for one person to undercut slightly and move a large number of items in a short time if they're attentive to the auction house. That's why on items like sushi, tools, drinks, potions, etc it's very common to see a history filled with only one or two names under the sellers column. This is not at all indicitive of gilselling.

When the person logged, they had probably just switched to another character to make more tools or get more materials. The naked character you saw was probably just a mule used to get items to market as fast as possible. Not an uncommon practice among serious crafters.

Yes for research sake, I tried to reproduce the same results to see if this was an actual issue. Since the information was fairly vague, it basically consisted of me running around nekkied in the Gardens of Jeuno using the same ninja tools as the person in question. I even "ran into the ah" in hopes that it had something to do with the area. But alas, I was unable to "dupe" an tools but I did come off looking like a complete ass!

Re: Is it possible to ... dupe items?

The strange running/walking pace could result from a miscalibrated or stuck analog stick. I have an old dual shock whose sticks sometimes get stuck in off-center positions instead of bouncing back to center the way they're supposed to.

Repackaging arbitrage was the first thing to come to my mind as an explanation of this behavior, too. Lots of times the price for a stack of X and the price for one X are not at the right proportion, and with items that are a stack by themselves (clusters, quivers, toolbags) there's even more potential to profit by buying something and selling the *exact same thing* in a different package. There's often potential to make quite a bit of profit by this kind of "market surfing" (it isn't really manipulation because you don't control where the wave goes, but just what you're going to do with the energy it provides).

I actually didn't have any filters on at the time, so that still should've showed on the log *shrugs* In fact, the only filter I had on were for alliance, since I put those on by default (something with being in a random p/u alliance and dealing with spam just drives me nuts)

As for this person being a mule, it happens that this person isn't a mule after all. I could've been wrong, but this player's name popped up in the jungle of all places. Always /anon though, never seen this person on LFP or anything.
