as mentioned before, the thread was about giving us better idea how to better interact and play with japanese players. It's not about who are better
As im typing, I'm in a very solid NA PT myself. ^^ Good players are on both side, so do bad players. We can throw our good and bad experience at each other all day long but it won't get us anywhere.

"Tengo el poder" means "I have the power". In a tv show called "Heeman" the protagonist shouts "Tengo el poder" everytime he uses his sword. I have no pics right now and cant find any in google. The chances are that those macros are a reference of this tvshow.

JP seems fine by me. Even japanese use it too.
I can kinda get that sentence in a very NA sorta way lol.

I think until FFXI, most JP people in Japan never associated multiple “z”s as sleepy noise. I’m pretty sure because I recall a thread in 2ch trying to figure out what the hell “zzzzzz” meant.

I was surprised to read this considering that so many games use "Zzz" to designate "sleep" status. Final Fantasy definitely uses this so I am confused why so many Japanese players would not recognize "Zzz" as being equal to "sleep." Other than that I found that post to be very interesting to read. It's nice to hear another perspecitive sometimes.

I wish there was a better listing of misused auto-translate phrases. {May}{bee} and {back} are obvious. I doubt most NA know how {Reward} really translated, and I'd wondered myself whether {Pull back} was appropriate when mob {Fishing}.

I wondered if {fiahing} was but i'm sure I've seen JP players use it aswell.

good to know there's Thai players on hades. There are hundreds of us on Titan and we have new players coming to the game all the time, keeping our social LS very active with all level range ^^ The irony is that we joke about NA being bad too... Thai's time is only 2 hours off japanese times so they play mainly in JP prime time. The reason they play japanese style. (i live in the states btw)

Dang it man, hundred of fellow Thais on another server, and here I am, alone on Leviathan... (Do you happen to know some Thai player on Levi? Closest I have met is a Cambodian growing up in NYC and a pair of Singaporean brothers.) At least, it's nice to know that I'm not the only Thai playing this.

{fishing} translates to {釣り} which does mean the act of fishing, but a lot of JP use 釣り to mean pulling a mob. So if you see an auto-translate message that translates as {Bard}{fishing}, it means they're asking the Bard to pull ... no relation to actual fishing for fish.

Also it's an oldie, but back in the day when NA would shout for help with Genkai quests they would use the auto-translate {cap}, as in '50+ {level}{cap}{Help Me Out!}', which basically comes out as '50+ ｛レベル｝｛帽åï½ï½›åŠ©ã‘て！！｝’, meaning 50+ Level Hat Save Me!!!'. Many confused JP because of this ...

I was under the impression that {Fishing} translated to "osakana" ("to fish")? If not, that's news to me. Still gets the point across, even if the usage is rather bizarre in Japanese.. though it's equally strange in English, aside from the fact that English has a number of fishing-related idioms that resemble this usage.

I think the most heavily abused auto-translation is definitely {Help me out!}. Probably one of the most poorly translated phrases in the translator, and always used in the wrong way by English speakers thinking it's a polite way to request help.

On the whole, though, the linked post is an excellent overview of how to interact with JP players. Now that FFXI has been available to NA players for over 2 years (almost 3 years for NA beta players), the overall skill level of the players is starting to closely mirror that of the JP players, though cultural differences still mean that the JPs are somewhat more courteous than their NA counterparts.

Anybody who buys text file guides on ebay must be stupid, any and all information contained in them is just copied and pasted from other sites and other peoples' findings. The whole post about speaking Japanese is something you can find in many different places on the internet.

From my study of Japanese I see that there are a few errors in a few of the phrases. It would probably be easier to just use the auto-translator than fumble around with their language.

I prefer to stick with the AT and emotes myself as well. I don't know japanese and I won't pretend to know it. No matter how many subbed animes I watch, unless I actuallytake a class or somethin I'll never learn how to type it or read it. So instead of trying to through out words that I don't understand I'll stick to the AT the best I can and use emotes and smilies for things I can't AT.

Though I do gotta admit, the AT kinda sucks for some things as pointed out in this thread.

おéš(osakana) doesn't mean 'to fish', it's a noun meaning 'fish', as in literally a fish like cod, mackeral or whatever. The verb 釣る　（tsuru) is 'to fish' and 釣り is it's nominal form 'fishing'.

What's bizarre is the fact that the Japanese players decided to use 釣り to indicate pulling a monster. I guess the action is similar, ie going out and attempting to pull something out of its environment to kill & eat. But still there's lots of in-game terminology that the Japanese use which is different to the NA word.

as soon as I started the game on JP ver, they already used the word fishing to indicate mob pulling. I didn't feel weird about it tho, I thought it made perfect sense. Since when we got good exp, their expression was "delicious" as well ^^ Combine that with their food.... sushi sashimi and all sort of fish, I can kinda understand why that is their word of choice.
