I know it is from alla. But this is a very good one. Most things posted may seem pretty basic or feel like beating a dead horse here. But the OP put them together in a very friendly-easy to read manner. Just want to reccomend everyone read it

Re: japanese pov - PT play and invites.

Last year my schedule prevented me from playing a lot during the day, so I played a lot during JP Prime time. Because of this, I learned more japanese (already knew a little before then) and I also noticed many things that the person posted. I always try to use appropriate auto-translation, search comments and tell my friends how they cans setup their comments. Pting with a lot of JP really influenced how I now play, and I think because of that (I gained a slight rep with some JP) that I now get more invites, and I even got a penpal who helped me learn more japanese^^ Nice find, and I've experienced a lot of the stuff that the author talked about, it's all true. JP tend to PT for a long time and kind of frown upon replacing yourself. I think everyone should read it^^

Re: japanese pov - PT play and invites.

      I LOVED this.

When I get invites from a JP leader, the tell is like this:

”Hello~ This is a PT of JP WAR, RDM, NA NIN, 69-71. Would you like to join us for EXP PT?”

or if it’s a start up PT

”Hello~ I am BLM75. I’m trying to set up a EXP PT. Would you like to join me?”

When I get invites from a NA leader, the tell is like this:

      ”{Party}?” or “{Hello!}{Party}?”

Let’s try to use the auto-translator to make a bit more JPish invite:

      ”{Hello!}{Experience Points}{Party} NA PLD, WHM, JP SAM 69-71. {Team up}?”

      ”{Hello!}New {Party}. THF 22. {Team up}?”

        Ahh, thank you for this.

I wish there was a better listing of misused auto-translate phrases. {May}{bee} and {back} are obvious. I doubt most NA know how {Reward} really translated, and I'd wondered myself whether {Pull back} was appropriate when mob {Fishing}.

How do I auto-translate that I'm ok with being main healer? {main}{Heal!} doesn't seem like it would come out the other side with the same meaning. {Healing Magic}{person}? That's long and awkward ...

        Double Post Edited:
        {Cure}{monkey}? ^^

          {healing magic} {main} maybe understandable I think?

Just wasn't sure that {main} didn't come out as {right hand} or somesuch. ^^ It is grouped with the equipment slots.

Re: japanese pov - PT play and invites.

Many people I know ask me why I get so many invites from Japanese people. They always act like the Japanese parties are godly, and that I'm special somehow for getting them. It's true my main job is WHM, and I will get an invite from basically anyone. But for some reason many NA people want JP parties. One of the first things that the poster on Alla. said was, "This is also not to be taken as “JPs are better” or “JP way is the only way”, as I have been in a number of very good NA only PTs and very bad JP only PTs." This is the most CORRECT statement from this guy. No matter how many parties you'll ever be in, there's gonna be very good ones, and very bad ones. There's just this notion that's on the top of people's heads that since the Japanese have had 2 years or so ahead of us, they know what to do and have a lot more experience on us. This is only partly true. The ones that have been playing longer have more experience....

I have some hints for people who want to get into JP parties, or are invited by a Japanese person.

              1) Be openminded. The ability to try new things is a great one. If it's out of the norm, and you can't handle it, then let the rest of the party know, they'll take it slower or help you out.

              2) Communication is the key to ANY good party. Let people know how you're doing. If you need to rest, then tell them. If you need to AFK to go to the WC or get a drink, let them know. When talking to a Japanese person, or any person who knows limited English, type in full sentenes. NEVER USE 1337 SP34|<, number one, it shows immaturity. Most people who use it are under the age of 15 anyways. It's hard to understand, and nobody really takes it seriously. When you use crappy talk like that, people don't tend to take you seriously anyways, because they think of some computer nerd in his parent's basement.

              3) Use a well organized search comment with important information. Example:

              @20,000 Sky, Moon, Sea: O
              Sub: SMN BLM RDM
Must leave for triggers at 8PM EST

That shows how much time I have to LFG, my tnl, subs, and areas I have access to. That is all that's important.

I keep seeing this, and I don't know HOW these people make it to 75.

              JAP PARTY OK!!! GODLY DD
              INVITE NOW PLEASE!!!

Nobody cares what gear you have. Skill > Gear, and if you have good skill, you probably have decent gear. Most people who brag about their gil have no idea what they're doing because they're too busy looking at their stuff. DO NOT EVER USE THE WORD JAP IN A PARTY. If you were partying with people from Germany, you wouldn't say KRAUT PARTY OK!!!
It's disrespectful, and many NA players don't know that. You don't see ROUND EYE PARTY OK!!! in a Japanese person' search comment.

Things to remember: When you see something like (English) (Thanks for the offer, but I'll have to pass.) That's not them saying they don't like English; they're saying they don't want to party with English, most likely because Japanese people feel inadequate with the communication and would like the ability to easily read chat.

Also, depending on the time of day, I like to use IME to fill out my search comment with Japanese. An example would be something like this, but I don't have IME on this PC >_<:

              @20,000 Sora,Tsuki, Wata:O
              Nihongo wo amari wakarimasu
              sasotte kudasai (' A ')

That's saying I have sky, moon, and sea access. It also says I understand a little japanese (even though I'm sure my grammar's not correct on that, Self-taught Japanese FTL ._.)

              4) BE POLITE. Everytime I see an NA leading a party with Japanese people in it, they're always barking orders. Telling a person to do this, and pull that. BE POLITE. That goes for ANY language person you're parting with. On Ragnarok, many people won't party with Spanish people, because they believe they're the least skilled people they've ever met. (In fact, I remember a spanish person in my LS saying they won't party with spanish.) If you encounter somebody who is doing something wrong, don't bark at them, ASK THEM POLITELY if they could change the way they play.

I'm sure everyone's heard this already, but I'm tring to get everyone to know this, because I've seen too many people complaining about why they don't get Japanese invites, yet they've taken little time to explore the language and culture of Japan. I remember a person actually saying in a chat LS of mine, "Why would learning kanji, kana, and romaji get me Japanese invites, it's all about your skill, right?" My first response was "orz". Then I said to him, "That's kind of like asking, 'Why would I learn to talk to girls if I want to date them, isn't it all about how good you look?"

Edit: I'd also like to see a few things added to the auto-translate, I feel it's lacking. Why isn't there a (Please pull this.) and also (which should be a no-brainer IMO, but hey, it's SE, look at some of their "fixes"), (You're welcome.) I don't feel like tying "Dou itamashimashite" every time I get a (Thank You.) >_<

hehehe when I first returned to FFXI last year I was kinda amazed seeing plus stats in many comments It struck me as weird because I'd never seen it before back in my imported days. Not that it's bad, I was just not used to it.

                Double Post Edited:
                referring to this quote.
{Reward} = a command used for BST when feeding pets, will come out as "itawaru" which is more of a verb used when caring for a sick/hurt person.
I just checked dictionary for itawaru. Here is what it says...
itawaru = "To take good care of; to be kind to"

                    Very good read! Thanks Jei.

I didn't know much about the search comments thing or /tells for PT invites, but now I'm glad I know. I did notice that the auto-translator was being hacked to death by improper use. I hope this thread reaches a lot of ears/eyes whatever.

That post was an interesting read, but I was already aware of all of those things from playing long enough. Good to know that this information is being passed along to the masses.

Re: japanese pov - PT play and invites.

Many players often wonder why the JP players are being "racist" and have tags in their comments which read along the lines of "JP Onry" or "NA {No thanks}"

Well, truth be told, I've been into no less than 8 horrible parties these past few days. As a friend told me, "You've got some bad **** mojo right there Ake."

I tend to play early JP primetime/late NA primetime. This causes an interesting social interaction whenever a PT is formed.

So, there was this one party, with 3 JP players and 3 NA players, myself included. Needless to say, it ended up pretty badly. The JP NIN dies because the NA WHM sucked and there were no efforts to coordinate a skillchain with the NA THF even though the JP players wanted to do so.

An hour later and with roughly only 1K exp in the bank, we disbanded. I searched out for those three JP players and immediately saw this in their search comments:

                        NA - NO THANKS

This is pretty common happenstance in the game, particularly at low levels. Part of this is also the fact that JP players, even when new, do not try to hold back the party. Almost every JP player that I've ran into, regardless if veteran or new, instinctively know how to play this game. They're always well prepared and are flexible with many things.

JP players also expect this of NA players. Unforunately, the vast majority of NA players do not react favorably. I had this discussion once with a JP friend of mine and we ended up believing it has more to do with the age gap. The average age of NA players, from newb to end game seems to fall around highschool/college age, while for JP players, tends to pull more towards the mid to late 20s, an age where maturity has already set in and many people are settled in their careers. Almost a 10 year difference is a whole lot, I can tell you one thing, the patience and temper of a 28 year old is quite different from that of an 18 year old.

All I can say is this: there is a reason for the age restriction and why I feel it is inappropriate for "kids" to be involved in an MMO game. Social interaction aside, the problem with online medium is that the ability to remain anonymous gives a false sense of persona to children moreso than adults and I believe that this feeling gets carried over into mundane things like playing a game. I notice the arrogance among the younger generation is appalling in online interaction, whereas I'm sure you will not witness that kind of behavior in a real life interaction.

Bleh, I've carried on far longer than I should. 1:30 AM and I'm going to bed.

Re: japanese pov - PT play and invites.

Is JP right? I mean, can we use it in search comment:

                          "JP/NA party Ok" ?

When I played I used that and I had no problems but just to be sure I've been in quite a lot of Japanese parties and I dont understand one word of Japanese. Good use of autotranslator + /tell to party members -usually at least one speaks english- can work very well. With time, I started to understand some words or expressions and I had a sheet of paper next to me to write down some words to check them later.

I'd like to know how to say:

"I don't speak Japanese, but I'd like to join your party please" (not in kanjis plz )

                          Thank you! And nice post

PD: Why are Spanish ppl so bad regarded? Can someone explain it to me?
