  • Adventuring Fellow Equipment

    From http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/index.php/Adventuring_Fellow_Guide:
REPORTED: What equipment he/she wears depends on where you choose to level and on what mobs.
REPORTED: In order to get your armor to change, you must kill max kills in a zone under the regional control and dominant influence of the armor path you desire (i.e. kill in Windurst controlled/influenced West Sarutabaruta to progress down the Windurst armor path).
REPORTED: In order to get your armor to change along the desired path, you must kill mobs which drop the associated crystal.
    Fire: San d'Oria
    Earth: Bastok
    Water: Windurst
    Dark: Beastmen
REPORTED: There is a chance that rather than increase one level, the armor piece designated for change will be reset to level 1. In all likelihood, the higher the level you advance, there is an increasing percent chance that your armor will reset.
Does anyone know how this really works? All the info above seems like a lot of guessing.

I'm trying to get my NPC to wear a Hara-Ate, so I've been leveling her in San d'Orian controlled areas, which seems to work for a couple days but then randomly she'll show up in a Doublet. It's very frustrating.

This is very very confusing. I have my level 31 npc... i just decided to level her a few days ago. And I want to gather the most information for it! I currently haver her in "shield mode"

It's a Wiki. Unfortunately, with all things Wiki, there is this huge possibility much of the information entered is complete BS. That's because there's no central process to check to see if that information is correct. Sure, a Wiki about classical physics will work because there's more than one way to validate what's entered into that Wiki, but as ambiguous as many things in this game are and without official commentary from SE, you can't validate the stuff typed in.

I think any additional information that was recently entered has a nice % of BS attached to it. The quests and other associated stuff are valid, however.

The koolaid link has pictures of each level of NPC armor, which is nice, but no information on how to obtain each level.

Yeah, I know a wiki isn't 100% reliable, especially since most of the quoted information is flagged as "reported" and presumably unconfirmed. But that site has the best information regarding NPCs otherwise.

I was kinda hoping someone had tried what I want to do, that is purposefully get their NPC into a certain armor look, and could tell me how they did it.

The "REPORTED" stuff is from the Alla boards, that's why they flagged it :D

Regional control by nation seems to be the only factor that makes a difference in my experience, regardless of what you are actually killing.

However, even when under regional control of the favored nation, I try to kill appropriate crystal monsters... I did try leveling once in another nation's territory, and it reset two pieces to level 1 of the Windurst path.

                Re: Adventuring Fellow Equipment

I can tell you that with use of Tactic Pearls and Signal Pearls, I took my 58 NPC to Delkfut's Tower. I noticed that each call she changed her entire gear for the first 2-3 times, after that it started to progress much slower.

For other notes about this I've also partied with player lv. 75 and went to areas that they need an ok party for and my NPC actually jumped 2-3 gears each call, then started chainging 1 set a call, then started to change only 1 gear piece each call.

So the statement of were you fight I beleive they are stating it in the terms of how fast the NPC will progress in gear, the more harder mobs you fight the faster they progress in gear. Each rank set of gear seems to have a level range of mobs you kill that help it progress faster. If you see your NPC changing only 1 piece at a time then the mobs are to weak to progress higher on the gear ranking (It seems to be one of SEs methods of encouraging the NPCs use on stronger mobs).

Things that can be solo'd at 75 should get your NPC to the highest rank gear pretty easily. It also isn't max kills for the NPC, I've debunked that tons of times with my NPC advancing and regressing in gear without getting max kills. Also crystals don't matter one bit, I killed Giant (Definatly not Dark Crystals) and my NPC progressed just fine along the ranking.

That last reported of dropping to level 1 is partly true, I've only happen in the follow conditions:
                • Current Realtime Controller of the Region. Means even though the area could be controlled by Windurst by the tally system, if San d'Oria has just dominated control it will effect your NPCs gear.
                • Not staying with same nation area control when you call NPC (Falls in latter as well)
                • Reached the max that your NPC can currently go. Yes, the NPC appear to have restrictions on how far on the gear they can get. The more Affinity your NPC has with you the higher up on gear sets it can get, so doing the quests is needed to unlock the affinity max.

Oh, one other quirk my friends had found before. The armor ranks not only cycle by nation but when they reach a max they cycle to level 1 gear to another nation and continue to progress up along it's ranking, till it reaches a max it can go again and again cycles to lv. 1 gear in another nations and so forth.

One friend fought in the obliuox (however it's spelled the dungeon under the San d'Oria castle), he went up through the San d'Oria gear set got to the last one then rest to lv. 1 of Windurst and while still in the same place went up through Windurst gear set and reset to lv. 1 of Beastmen gear set.

                    Re: Adventuring Fellow Equipment

Argh so frustrating. I had to burn through all the charges on my tactics pearl so I could get another one today, so I decided to do it in Ronfaure to try and upgrade her armor. I'm trying to get Hara-Ate. So the first time I call her she's in breastplate. Next time Mythril Breastplate, so far progressing right up the chart on that page. Next call Eisen, then Carapace, then Gold Cuirass and I'm out of charges. Each call she moved up one armor rank in the San d'Oria list, so she should have ended on Hata-Ate. I go back to Sandy and what do I find her in?
                    Guess.

                        Re: Adventuring Fellow Equipment

To be honest, I think there's a "general" way about levelling up your fellow's armor (regional control and influence), plus some sadistic randomness tossed in. I've found the starter areas to be the best, since there seldom is much in the way of conquest change with them.

But, like you've experienced, that bit of randomness makes it very frustrating. It took me 2 months to get my NPC in Noble's gear. I took her to Giddeus to level on Yagudo (thinking maybe Windurst beastmen would help). After getting up to the Earth Doublet (level 8 armor), it reset to level 1 Bastok. Made another attempt. Got up to Gambison (level 4). Another reset to Bastok, and then it continued down the Bastok path for another 4 calls. Next attempt, got to Austere (level 9), and yet another reset to Bastok. Fourth attempt finally made it all the way to Noble's (level 10).

It just takes a lot of patience. I'd suggest sticking to the starter areas and committing mass-genocide on the local Beastmen.
