Did he? DID HE. Tenzen annoyed the hell out of me nearly the entire time in CoPs storyline.
I don't know, let's see:
CoP spoilers
Prishe:
* Ditches you every chance she gets, makes you chase her all over Vana'Diel.
* Carries the terrible burden of being feared because she doesn't age.
* Would risk the end of the world just to let you live...which is noble, if she actually had a plan, but she doesn't.
Tenzen:
* Stays put. Doesn't open his mouth unless it's important.
* Carries the burden of owning a sword that could only be forged through the genocide of his own country's people. His sword saves your ass a couple of times.
* Realized killing you was a surefire way to avert disaster. Being a sane, responsible person, he gave it a shot.
* Was mature enough to realize everyone would hate him for trying to kill you, put up with it without saying a word.
* Was the only person with enough willpower to not be driven insane by Promathia's temptations. Knocked out the other weak-minded characters to stop them from killing each other while putting up with mental intrusions.
* Offered to let you kill him in the future to make amends.
Sure, he wasn't the happiest guy in the bunch, but in the grand scheme of things, he wasn't so bad. It's those 3 Tarutaru fucktards I'd love to see dead. They really had no other role but to make your life miserable.

Reason: typo
Gratz on the Tenzen win. Guy's a jerk, but at least he had a perfectly good reason to try to kill you!
Really? Because that hasn't been explained at all. It was completely out of the blue, suddenly Tenzen wants your ass dead. I keep waiting for this entire expansion to sit down and explain itself but all it does is piddle on itself with vague and pretentious monologues that don't clarify a damn thing.
I'm pretty sure it gets explained shortly after the fight. You're already at the point where it all comes together, but if you really want to know ahead of time:
Moar spoilers
The 5th mothercrystal is what keeps Al'Taieu in a separate dimension from Vana'diel. When Tu'Lia was activated in RoZ, energy was drained from all 5 mothercrystals. Because energy was drained from the 5th crystal, it no longer had the power to keep Al'Taieu separate, which means the Keeper of the Apocalypse would have access to Vana'diel. Tenzen realized you're carrying the light of the other mothercrystals. He also knew that when people die, their soul goes to the nearest mothercrystal. Putting two and two together, killing you would've meant the light of the other crystals would end up in the 5th crystal. The mysterious boy was actually using you for similar purposes.
There may be some finer points in there I'm missing. It's been years.
My favorite CoP team members were Shikaree, Jabbo, and Ulmia. Because they didn't do stupid shit. Except try (and fail) to kill you before you teamed up, talk with TONS of ellipses, and play a harp.
Shikaree Z was easily my favorite after Tenzen. I mean, Z is like the coolest letter in the alphabet, with only X coming close. I mean, look at Mega Man X. X and Zero, come on. </tangent>
Ulmia is awesome because it's implied she sings the ending theme, which was also awesome.

Ok, that makes more sense now, but in-game they do a pretty terrible job of explaining it clearly.
They really do. I knew the Tenzen fight was coming up, but the entire time leading up to it, I'm like "There is absolutely zero foreshadowing going on here."
