It utterly confuses me how so many folks end up leveling White Mage when they don't particularly enjoy the job. But hey, I didn't level it and I'm free to play whatever I want...so long as it's Red Mage. Wait a minute...

People see some classes and think, "oh, its easy for them to get a group", so they decide to level it hoping for more invites. The problem is, they don't enjoy the class, and then they find out that group dynamics don't hinge around just getting one person. If you can't find a tank, or a healer, or some competent damage dealers, you're still in the same position of sitting on your thumb waiting, but now you're on a job you don't really enjoy.

People also have a tendency to ask you to bring that job when they're looking to fill that role, so you have to be really vocal that no, you'd rather show up on something else than get stuck doing something you don't like.

Edit: Oh, and can't forget my favorite, people bitching at you for something they percieveto be your fault. Bonus points if they yell when you did something right.

I may fall into this category-partially. While I won't say that I hate the job, I also can't say I entirely love the job. I would much rather be dealing the damage to the enemy, rather than healing the damage it has done. I originally had leveled it so it could be an another option in case the party was waiting on WHM. Seems now I have become basically a full time WHM, and while I don't enjoy it as much as, say blu, it has helped out a ton. I have gotten tons accomplished that I may have had to wait on elsewise.

In relation, healing skillups suck.

My accomplishment of the week so far:
Started my journey to the Almace. killed Serpoptard Ishmer in Tahrongi 3 X since sunday. Camped him twice without finding him, before I figured out how to camp the PH. Not much but eh, it is start. Totterting Toby, you are next.

I think Bigfish nailed it tho. For instance, in Yyg's case, I know he leveled it because so often WHM was the missing component of our various events, and no one else wanted to take one for the team and level it. But once you have WHM at 90, if anyone KNOWS you have it? That's what they want you to come as.

I think it's why so many people have WHM mules on auto-follow. That way they have a WHM, but can actually play the jobs they want to play.

And to be fair, I did like WHM back when I leveled it, but that was 2005, and things were different. And even I found it tedious after a while. Everyone loves you when they need some cures, but when you need anything? Not...not so much.

To this day I'm still suffering the PTS effects that leveling WHM to 38 caused me.

Woah... didn't mean to cause a debate. I leveled WHM because at the time... when I had my LS on Valefor... nobody had WHM at 90... and it was hard to have a LS event when you didn't have a main healer. I leveled it to fill a need. Now that it's at 90 and I have a few of the +1 pieces... I'm having a bit more fun playing the job... but I still largely prefer playing my other jobs. The only thing holding me back from playing WHM more is that my skills are still gimped. Accelerated Experience was great and all... but having Healing Magic stuck at 180, Enhancing Magic at 210 and Divine at a whopping 150ish doesn't make the job any more appealing to me.

I'm stuck at that crossroad where... if I want the job to be more playable and enjoyable... I need to skill it. However... skilling it involves playing it... and it's not fun... because my skills are shit.

Gradually, I figure... while I play it when the need arises... it will get better and better. I'm still waiting for the undead to make a march on WG so that I can skill healing a bit faster... but those bastards haven't made a march during a time that was convenient for me in a long ass time.

All of my skills in WHM are only slightly above the level that I needed to cap them for any job that used /WHM. I really never had any intention to bring it past 49... but I answered the call.

I really do want to level another job that I actually enjoy playing. NIN is great as a full-time gig.... SMN is awsome as a joack-of-all-trades/NM soloing machine in Aby... and COR is just fun as hell in and out of Aby... even if it is situational.

What I don't want is another job that I'm going to feel the need to work on an EMPY weapon for. I already committed myself to doing Armageddon and Kannagi... I don't need another headache on top of those.

To try and re-rail this thread... let me add that I finished the second to last fight of the WotG Missions. Now I only have to do the final battle and I'm done with all 4 main expansions!
