Quitting entirely, I got a gamefly account and started playing ice hockey often irl, so I finally have enough non-FFXI things to hold my attention while I deal with the withdrawal phase. I had actually been set to play for at least another 6-12 months until they announced the level cap raise, but that was pretty much the one single thing they could have done to kill my interest in the game and they nailed it on the head, lol.

I mean, seriously? You're quitting now of all times, upon the death of pink-magery as we currently define it, and after we got this epic sword?

Reason: Would you at least please update your RDM guide once or twice more? There has been, and will be, some cool new stuff . . .

However much I am actually smart, I got that way by confronting how stupid I am.
That could not be further from the truth. I've got a great job, a great guy, and I am possibly buying a house in the next few months. I'm losing weight and getting back in shape.
I wouldn't have believed that outside and real life could be so much greater than sitting on my (admittedly big) ass for 18 hours a day, but I tried it, and it's really working out well.

I spent over 5 years making a damn-near maxed RDM, only to have S-E come along and announce that they were going to go ahead and do something that they spent 5-6 years specifically saying they'd never do, which will make me dump massive amounts of time to just get my job levels current, obsolete half of the gear that I worked very hard to get, save for ones that I could partake in ridiculously time-consuming quests to upgrade just to make par. I can't even hold all the RDM gear I have already, without whatever level 76+ gear they add, and I'm pretty certain that they've maxed storage limitations of the game at this point. And after all that, my RDM itself will likely be obsolete compared to my SCH/RDM at 99 either way.
So yeah, good time to hang it up for me, lol. If I can find a job and put aside some cash to upgrade to a better PC I may try 14, but I'll definitely be done with 11.

See that's exactly how I felt about my WHM. The point was moot since I'd been banned before they announced the level cap increase, but aside from about three things that were available at the time I quit (HQ Blessed basically), my WHM was done. My RDM was done to my satisfaction, and my BLM was pretty fucking close, too. There was just no fucking way in hell. I agree, raising the level cap killed what interest I may have had in returning.

And for an accomplishment: Since I started actively tracking it three weeks ago, I've lost five pounds.
Well to each their own, it sparked my interest more to be honest, and I was about ready to quit as well. A lot of old friends who had also quit came back just to give the new stuff and the level cap increase a go. Either way, what matters is that everyone enjoys w/e it is they are doing, be it quitting after a long successful game career, or coming back ^^

No matter how far an ass travels he will never be a horse. Some people are just bad players and no amount of tools you give them will change that.

I had my BLM and RDM pretty close to where I wanted them to be. I spent almost 6 years playing this game having quit last year due to deployment. Even though I have invested alot of time into making my gear HQ I am not upset that the level cap was raised. For me working toward new goals was always the most fun I had in this game. Endgame had become far too tedious and repetitive. I may return to try out the new levels. I never wanted to just sit back and rest on my laurels anyhow.
See I enjoyed being finished with some jobs so I could work towards gearing others. I liked being versatile. Having only one job (RDM, way back when) got really old, really fucking fast. It felt really nice to have a few jobs that were basically set, so I could concentrate on gearing one new job.
Got my clear for Dynamis-Qufim last night! Quite a few relic drops including RDM legs (2), MNK hands, SMN Cape (2), DRG belt, SAM belt and various others. Everything was great, cleared Mega Boss 30-40 min in, farmed for rest of time until I aggroed 50 gobins by near the Weapons (w/ 3 min remaining) and wiped our alliance /facepalm
My mule is sitting on 12 stacks of saplings thanks to the meriting/farming on main done over the last months weeks. Stupid gardening taking about a week to a week and a half to harvest.
Finally coming to the realization that it takes to long to get anything done (takes me 1 hour and 20 minutes to get enough exp to remove my empress ring effect). Decided to quit and spend the time doing other things.
A few RL Accomplishments since I have been slowly loosing interest in FFXI:
Dropped below 200 lbs for the first time in 3 years: (Changing bad eating habits is painful. Did anyone else notice that deep-frying anything makes it taste better?)
Waiting for the bank to accept my offer on new house.
Looking at the kids happy faces because Dad is spending more time than before is Priceless.

The sentence you quoted was referring to instead of spending 5 to 8 hours on the weekend doing endgame/exp/farming, I use most if not all that time with my kids.
I think you must have misread what I typed. I said more time than before, if you have a way of spending less than 11hours a week getting things done please enlighten me.
