Helped a friend with the CoP Airship fight tonight, we couldn't get past the Mammets (LOL) until our BRD switched to his BLM. Jackpot ...
Odd. My LS did this fight recently, and the BRD was very helpful for the it. Set up was: NIN, BRD, SAM, MNK, RDM, WHM. Cleared it with plenty of time to spare. One death on Omega, I think, but no wipe.
Split group at the start: NIN aggro all Mammets, go to a corner; full evasion set up, including funky earrings and Mambo x2. WHM watched over his HP. SAM and MNK pulled Mammets off NIN one by one, and KO them. RDM watch over their HP and silence, debuff Mammets. BRD contributed to cures here and there, when not busy with songs.
Regrouped for Omega and Ultima. NIN changed to tank set up, DDs beat down HP steadily, with one SP each critter. RDM Chainspell nuked at some point; I forgot when. Had six CCB Polymer Pumps, and they helped a lot. (I made them all farm. )
Overall, the BRD+RDM+WHM combo kept the party in good MP and HP. The BRD helped the front line do nice and steady damage, and tossed out a good deal of cures, too.

The same group did CoP 7.5 as: WAR, SAM, BRD, BLM, BLM, WHM. BRD SP'ed, put up songs, and walked in first to "tank" the brats. WAR set up a double WS (sleep potion and Icarus Wing) to open the fight on the main target. SAM immediately followed with self-SC Light. Then, BLMs MB'ed with Thundaga III and Burst II.
I asked the WHM go /RDM, gulp a Yagudo Drink, cure dump, and don't worry whether she'd make it to the end alive or not. >_>;
Wish I could've been inside to watch.
