In the old days you wouldn't hit 75 without 200 hours of practice timing shadows vs different mob types and clawing your way up the hate list. You just don't have that yet.

I don't think there were that many relevant mob types you needed to practice against back in the old days. At best you needed practice against MNK mobs, but those are a nightmare and I don't know why anyone would make a Ninja tank those. Goobbues and Manticores are slower than the average mob so you can cast Ichi in their face even without any sort of Slow effect. Lolibri is the main "faster-than-average" mob that comes to mind, but those are still fairly recent in my mind. I can't think of much else with strange attack speeds.

Also back then everyone dressed their NIN as Evasion whores. It's no wonder they couldn't keep hate, their offense was shit.

You are correct in that lolMNKskill though.

Not sure what you mean by couldn't keep hate? the pt's I played with always kept hate. Also we used jobs such as thf back then to make sure you kept hate. You would always find a pt with a thf in it or /thf. Drk/thf used to be the bomb back in the day. A SATA would be the start of the pt and after it went off the tank had all kinds of hate. Again though, The play styles from 2006 to now are completely different.

back in the day a pt would look like this post lvl 40,

NiN or PLD
WHM
RDM, COR, or Bard, SMN (Every now and then)
THF
DD
DD

A DD would consist of WAR, DRK, BLM and we were starting to see Blue become dd's, Ranger, MNK

I was thinking mobs with double attack, mobs with martial arts, mobs with multi-hit TP attacks and mobs that cast. Shadow management is slightly different in each case. Mostly though, hours of practice trading down to ichi, forcing through shadows naked, and tracking enfeebles while juggling that.

Alright, then let me clarify: it's no wonder they kept such a low hate threshold. Hate management has always been a party affair. If a 2006 NIN didn't have SATA support though, odds of him holding hate consistently were slim (except 40-55ish when they could use the elemental wheel for good damage.) There's only so much the DDs can do before they have to start turning their back on the mob.

Ah, I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about the casting timing specfically and not shadow management in general.

Ha, indeed, it's mostly just gear concerns. When I leveled BLU, I found myself getting frustrated that I would get hit for so much while my NIN friends seemed to live forever. So I leveled NIN and found that now I could survive multiple mobs hitting me, but it took me forever to kill them. So then I leveled MNK (and am still leveling it) and found that, boy howdy there isn't much to do here.

Most of my fail comes down to gear, with a bit of it being on the lack of understanding, end. It's why I try not to go to events and just stand there, because I'm not learning anything watching 3-4 other people do all of the work. And I'm not really earning my keep that way either.

I need to get over the unique snowflake syndrome. Being one in an MMO is pretty tough, especially later in the game. So while I may indeed level something else, I'll just have to remind myself that it's going to take a while to be of any use to people.

Well, a lot of that is up to the way the vent crew does things. It takes 1-4 people to mass whisker and there's eff all for everyone else to do while that's happening. If you went off and tried to be productive elsewhere you'd miss the chance at KI drops and defeat the purpose.

While that's definitely true, it's not just with them that I run into that issue. And since when I'm with them I want to be helpful, my only options outside of building lights at the beginning, is indeed to just stand there.

Finished Apocalypse Nigh with BST+BST+SMN. Easy victory, didn't even have to pop a second sheep.

Got WAR up to 69 in campaign battles, then another level (and some skill-ups) semi-leeching in Zeruhn mines. Trying to get a bunch of 2H weapons skilled up, but Martial Master kupower just ran out. In any case, all 30 of my combat/magic skills are now over 100.

And I realized after figuring out what skills went where that I need to get Asuran Fists for MNK already.

Actually, it is pointless. It drops a synergy crafting item.

In fact, most NMs added in the Novermber 2009 update were pointless except for crappy synergy aptants and to pad out the Hunt Registry... which nobody uses. The only thing Tegmine is good for is terrorizing Cape Teriggan. Extreme lulz ensue when someone zones to Kuftal to get away from it.

Figured out how to use /PUP toward the Asuran Fists trial: Valoredge frame/head, hit Fire at 80% automaton TP, slowly count to 4 after Chimera Ripper, then hit Shoulder Tackle. When the cash register sound happens, mark down 3 points. Since my old trialing ground (Garlaige basement) has been wrecked, I'm trying beetles in QSC instead, and got 11 points during the test run.

And we've got Martial Master again. That's 3 weeks in a row, and 5 out of the past 6. Definitely being sent a message here. Plus we've got Blood of the Vampyr, which will help my survivability a bit as MNK/PUP. Now I need to grind another level plus buffer so I can wear my Orochi Nodowa for a total of 2 1/2 regen.

Got through another trial for the evasion dagger and then noticed it was turning to Windsday. So I dragged the LS out to slaughter spiders and aaaalllllmost finished the next one (would have finished but we were slaves to the repop timer in Kuftal).

I wasn't on last night. We did this yesterday afternoon. Windsday ended before we were able to finish killing. There are a ton of spawns, but they are on a 16 minute repop timer. We just ran out of time. We did kill Arachne though. It was fun romping through that area as a group

Soloed Lugarhoo on SMN for quest in Aby-La Theine. Pulling after popping was pretty tricky, but got no aggro. Easy solo, though it got a bit spamy in the last few %. Stun proc'd on Ramuh, which was weird, and Chaotic Strike's stun became resisted after about the 5th. Got Poise shoes to drop lol, but those are worthless now. Call of the Moon resets targets enmity, so I just saved BPs for that.

Tried Brooder again. Went /SCH, which help speed up the kill, since no need for Favor to conserve MP. No drop again.

Went with friends to many zones to get lots of Abyssites. Picked up a few seals in the process as well.
