My advice:

Stay outside the zone. Have others who don't want BLU proc and kill, then zone in to claim the spoils. Might just get around SE's 'anti-want-Bots'. Maybe not... SE has their ways... SE's like the opposite of Santa Claus.

The biggest deterrent for me is the excessively expensive cost of certain spells.

That is of course the best part for me. I leveled up my mage jobs first, back when certain of the spells weren't (as) expensive, and kept them current. I even took my RDM to 41 and got Refresh before the first announcement of the level cap raise, because I had a feeling it would happen eventually.

Same with me and Dark Knight. I've had the sword for the unlock quest sat in my Storage since 2006...

I toughed it out and unlocked the job, during which I got WAR up to 9 during the process. Then it sat in Storage for at least a year until I finished it. With my recent leveling, I found that Deathbringer is not a bad sword at all, at least for low levels. DRK was one of the easier jobs for me to level.

But the king of awesome has had to be DNC. I went looking into some GoV areas on DNC. First thing I tried was cardians. I was able to take on Tough sixes, but that @#%#@$ Six of Swords could Cure II itself as fast as I could damage it with a crappy Kukri knife. At least one I fought for half an hour straight with no progress. Hooray for cheating mobs... there must be some sort of TP->MP conversion or a heckuva refresh effect in there.

Then I went into Gusgen, where I quickly discovered that bare knuckles were better than the Kukri! So I tossed it into the sack and started punching on the bones bare-handed. I ended up dinging 28 + 6xp before quitting for the night.

After 3 years of adamant "no /nin on my account!" got nin to be my first 49 sub job. Then sam in the next hour or so.

I was a "no /dnc" for the longest time because I just didn't want to create a whole new set of macros. But once I took it to 20, I realized how overpowered it could be. Yeah, killing Toughs at least two levels higher? (not fast, but at all) I'm up to 28 right now.

Got Rank 5 last night.

Went reading through the wiki and found out I had a shit-load of quests to do before even accomplishing it....but once it was done, it felt good.

Soloing the whole thing was boring, but it still felt like an accomplishment, mainly because I did all the quests leading up to the mission (and the mission itself) solo, not having to depend on anyone.

Let's see: Got 1/3 of crests with Darchael making sure I don't get pounded by Ruby Quadav (thanks Darch).

Also helped Vauvane get the 3 items needed for sub. While it wasn't my accomplishment, I took part and it felt accomplishing.

Dyna Beau. run... went in with about 8 people and sh!t was dropping like made.

I alone got: BLU (needed/wanted), COR, PUP, MNK, BLM, DRG, WAR, BST and 27 O. pc's (approx. 380k gil) + the clear for 2 who needed. Pretty nifty.

Warrior to 88. It started off pretty rough, including an almost total wipe (to worms, try not to laugh), but got rolling pretty quickly after that. Now I have to go make some gil for the first time in a long time to upgrade my gear (Grim body and Jinjang legs and feet probably to start with).

Gear options now suck considerably less.

Also: 1.5K+ Penta Thrusts are sexy.
