  • Re: Post your Best/Latest Accomplishment

In heavy merit parties on RDM/WHM where I needed the MP but curing myself wasn't really a concern (way back in the 75 heydays obviously), I'd sometimes just Convert, Cure 2 or 3, and let the auto-regen tick me up.
Not to be nitpicky but Rdm/whm using convert is a little different than a Smn/rdm using convert. IMO at least.

Rdms don’t have to get close to mobs or members to BP:Rage/Ward where as a Smn would. As Rdm you can probably stay out of AoE ranges at all times.
You’d also have divine seal if you wanted to fire off maybe 1 cure. On top of that you’d also eventually get Cure IV with /whm.

I’m not saying don’t convert on Smn, I’m just saying I personally don’t. With all the –perp cost, Atmas (if in abyssea) and siphon, it’s pretty easy to manage MP these dayst.

As a Taru SMN I currently have 650HP and 1450MP. If remove the 45HP->MP earring and the 70Hp->MP Ring from the equasion I get 765HP and 1335MP. If I swap the RING/EAR for ones of the opposite effect (or close to it) I would get 880HP and 1220HP.

It wouldn’t put me at 1100/1100 like I want... but if I were going to try... I would want to condence it all into 1 macro for button for everything.
After your macro wouldn’t you have to spend MP to get from
Sure you can make a macro to raise HP/Lower Mp…but then you need to make sure remember you save enough MP to cure yourself after your macro.
Whatever works for you. To each his own.

Again, im just saying I personally don’t like convert on Smn. I enjoy smn/rdm for Refesh/fastcast and maybe some of the spells.

Use windower macros or you fail
Im one of the few people that play the old fashion way I guess.

***edit*** also, do you even get auto-regen as smn/rdm?

Spellcast is something awesome. Basically, you create "sets" in a script file, and conditions determine what sets are automatically equipped at any given time. You can tell it to equip your resting gear while resting, your cure V gear while Cure V'ing, your idle gear while idling, your obis when weather conditions are right, your level 50 JSE rings when your health is below 75%, etc. It takes more to set up, but it's so great. (I always hated standing up from resting and being in my resting gear until I casted something else. With spellcast, I'd swap back automatically when I stood up. My resting gear was ugly.)

And the best part for me was learning to typecast, but a different way. Not /ma "Cure V" Somedudewithalongname, but //cure5 some. And as you start casting, the script recognizes what spell you're casting and changes your gear accordingly. Once you learn the syntax, you can set it up to do a lot of things. You can set mid-casts, you can even set melee sets - and tell the game to recognize that when you rest with more than 15 (or so) TP, not to change your weapon so you don't lose that TP. (Otherwise, resting would automatically change your weapon and you'd lose it.)

I deleted all of my script files and text files when I quit the game so I can't share that, but I had spellcasts for all of my jobs. If you set it up a certain way, it will load the script when you change jobs, but I always changed it manually since I had both a WHM and a WHMmelee script, and a RDM and a RDMmelee script.

That, too, can be found on windower's forums and it had a lengthy explanation of how to set it up. It sounds really confusing but when you get the hang of it you'll wonder why the hell you never used it before.

Naturally though, (and I said something that sort of implied this) shit is situational. If you have to worry about aggro, or AoE, or any of that, you might want to cure yourself. I did not generally need to, so I did not generally concern myself with curing if I was not in imminent danger of dying.

As for Divine Seal ... saved that shit for emergencies, yo. I hardly ever wasted it on a single cure. DS Curaga is like using Curaga 2 with less hate. And RDMs get Cure IV naturally, at 60-something I think. Maybe even Cure V now, I don't know. But Cure IV is stupid. It doesn't do that much and it pulls too much hate, and in a meripo (for example) where I'm healing on RDM, there's no tank. Cure IV is a good way to die. So I'd use a Cure III and let myself regen back to full.

              • Re: Post your Best/Latest Accomplishment

Should be noted that the Windower is a third-party program. It's in a bit of grey area, since SE (must?!) know it's in wide use, but has not cracked down on it. Yet.

Windower's macros are largely a convenience; most of what you can do with that system you can do with the FFXI's built-in macros using more macro presses. (The major exception I know of is the ability to use fractional seconds for 'wait'.)

The Windower plugin Spellcast, however, is a cheat tool in my book, since it enables players to do things which are humanly difficult if not impossible to do with built-in macros. Cheat tools like speed hack mess with FFXI client to break the movement speed limit, bots inject phantom commands to repeat of same actions without human attendance. Spellcast, in a similar vain, injects phantom commands not directly initiated by the player, and enables precise and robotic timings on mass gear switches and character actions not possible without third-party tools.

A lot of people would disagree with my characterization, so it should be noted the above is merely my opinion. That said, I'll put out this observation: SE has set the PS2, xBox360, and PC's FFXI client at parity--except for technical limitation and platform specific requirement, FFXI plays identically on all three; we're all supposed to be on equal footing, game play wise. So, if you on PC install a third-party program to gain a game play advantage over PS2 and xBox360 (and 'vanilla' PC) players, the logical interpretation is that you are cheating.

You're free to say whether it does or does not give any game play advantage, but try not to lie too much to yourself. The better way to rationalize it is probably to cling on to the notion that FFXI isn't PvP (for the most part)--Spellcast users are actually 'helping' other players by playing better. Of course, if you think it makes you play better, that pretty much would an admission of obtaining game play advantage over other players via third-party tools.

                YMMV.

You know what…this is a happy thread. So I’m going to avoid talking about how I feel with windowers.

The ‘windower’ discussion has been going on for years and years. I love this thread and like to post/read about accomplishments.

Maybe we can just pretend no one ever said ‘windower’ or ‘spellcast’ and jump back to accomplishments.

I play on a PS2, so I don't know all those nifty little tricks. *shrug* I know you can turn off weather effects on PC but not PS2 -- but can either turn off the screen shake made by wivres & buffaloes & other big creatures? I had a great Abyssea party last week (bluffaloes in Ule Range) but the shaking was driving me up the wall.

Last night was yet another NM/seal farming night. We got some Atma involving "Ooze," an abyssite of sojourn (received after one NM or another fell), I got another WAR head seal, and 2 DNC head seals. Only 2 DNC head seals to go ... and oh yeah, I need to level DNC about 30 more levels.

And yeah, half kidding, half serious. Though anyone in my shell was pretty much expected to use plugins to the utmost because we were doing all the l33t shit.

On a side-note. Although it does seem cool and useful... I doubt I'll actually impliment the use of either Windower or Spellcast. I'm one of those purists who likes to play a game the way it was intended.

That being said... I won't condone anyone for using either program either.

My ZOMG reaction was simply in disbelief that something that broken was actually usable at all. It explains a lot of the "WTF" reactions that I have experienced in the past... like people who swap their entire gear-set in a second... and then procede in the same second to do like... 9 other things at the same time.

                                I always wondered.
