  • VanaGuide Signature

Hello everyone, Chad here. I'm the one of the Devs on the public release application of VanaGuide Signature. This is basically a small application you run on your local computer that has FFXI Installed. It simply runs in the background collecting live information about your character and sending it to our server that then turns it into a Dynamic image which can be used for a signature in my locales such as forums/e-mails. We've had many people look at the packets and the software itself to prove it's safe. If you don't feel safe please packet sniff the program to your heart's content. If you have questoins PLEASE post on OUR forums so that we can give you our full attention.

    Thanks!

Is this similar to the one for WOW? Except it ran in conjunction with WOW Census, a 3rd party proggy which would collect information about the particular server the player was in and then upload it to a central server. Dynamic images would be created using the information uploaded to the server, except in this case, the stats were sometimes slow to update (It depends on who was uploading what)

In FFXI, though, it'd be tricky to run a census when some players are /anon most of the time...

This reads FFXI's Memory for your own player stats. When it uploads the data the signature is updated INSTANTLY.

      Here's a demo...

Oh, wow, that's cool! However, could you omit the money? Last thing I need is for someone to see that sig and then bug the beejeezus out of me for money. And not just one parasite either...

          Re: VanaGuide Signature

Ve-ery interesting. However, I'm naturally concerned about the security of a program that's reading my memory data and uploading the data to a remote server. Couldn't this theoretically be used to grab my credit card information when I verify the charges, or some other malicious purpose?

Also, I think by virtue of reading the game's memory this is against the terms of service, is it not? I doubt the program itself could be detected on S-E's end, but wouldn't using such a signature in a public place be like waving a flag that says "suspend me?"

You can either display LS Name or Gil. As for security we've already had outside people look throught he program and admit it has nothing harmful in it. And if you're that paranoid about it just close it after it's done the update. You can even sniff it's outgoing packets if that worries you. And no POL is secure I'm sure grabbing CC info wouldn't be that easy and not something we'd be interested in seeing as I put my real life full name on the web site. As far as suspensions this does nothing harmful whatsoever. Using something like the Windower is a bit more offensive and people don't get suspended over that unless they're dumb and say something in /say.

Lookin' sharp. *poses with new sig*

I could ask for some more customization options, and the brightness on the color backgrounds other than purple is a little high. Very cool that this exists at all though. Thanks, Xtek. ^^

If you could get Joker to say my Job info, Robin to say my ranking info and Batman to say my PC info, I might switch...

                          Otherwise, I'm not gonna...

Until I'm tired of this one...

and then Ill prolly try it out cuz it does look pretty sweet...

[seriously, though. What about custom backgrounds? Set a filesize/dimensions and let people upload their own?!]

That's an awesome idea. Probably be a fair amount of work but an awesome idea nonetheless.
