I've read many posts by people who don't like FFXI's character customization, without the armor. When you begin the game, you get 8 faces per race, with 2 hair colors (per the face), and 3 height settings. So people are always complaining about seeing their twins in-game, despite different armor. Apparently this is important to people, since doing anything in FFXI takes such a long time. If you're gonna be spending so much time on a game, you wanna be somewhat original, right?
So I have an idea... instead of remake the character-creation engine (you know it's not gonna happen), why not just add a special NPC to the game? And when a player goes to that NPC, they can have special additions made to their character model.
Some examples:
1) Lets you dye your hair (or a part of it) to an artificial color.
2) Lets you style your hair, based on the current face. For example, if you have a ponytail, you can choose to undo it and walk around with your long hair out. Or if you have short, spikey hair, you can choose to slick it back.
3) Lets you set character's "general mood" (gives your current face a basic expression - sad, happy, angry, and the amount of sadness/happiness etc).
4) Lets you set special features (piercings, scars, make-up, etc.)
I would call this NPC a Stylist, but stylists don't give scars and moods... well, some do. ^^
This of course, is entirely cosmetic. It's to make your character stand-out more. I wanted to send these ideas to S-E, but I'm posting on various forums first. Do you guys like this kinda thing??
Constructive replies, please!
