Instancing in FFXI?

I'm not a big fan of instancing... looks like it's coming in, though. How do you feel about it?

Assault" means to make a sudden attack on a fortified area. Your goal in Assault is to fight through an enemy stronghold with a small, elite unit of mercenaries.
In order to participate, you must first go to the Commissions Agency, where you can view a list of available tasks. Choose any task that interests you, and gather the number of people necessary to finish the operation. Then, enter the enemy's stronghold and complete your tasks.
If you manage to complete the Assault and make it back alive, the Empire of Aht Urhgan will reward you with fame and an appropriate reward.
Assault can only be undertaken by small, select groups. In exchange, the Imperial Army will evacuate any non-participants so that you can fully concentrate on the operation. On the other hand, no one will be around to help if you find yourself in trouble, so you must always be on guard.

Aren't BCNMs, ENMs, Limbus and Dynamis instanced events?

instances aren't necessarily bad

assault sounds more like some new form of garrison...

hmm...might be part of storyline then you can play it after you finish it? Or its going to be like Garrison w/o th working for the Item needed..hopefully its likea PvP Garrison, that would be fun :D

I didn't realize that other stuff was instanced. It's not THAT bad of course... Instancing has many unseful properties. It's just not what I prefer

instances arent bad in stuff like FFXI because they are doing stuff where you WANT to be with your select group...Its bad in stuff like DDO because you are paying monthly for a worse version of guild wars...

not to sound like a jerk, but would you prefer randoms walking by and messing with your mobs, or something like that? with instancing, you and your group have sole control of the situation.

If you look at a BC field, it is one large zone with 3 battle zones that are exactly the same. It is the same with ENM zones.
I'm not sure about Limbus, but I know that only one group can play Dynamis at the same time, so that is not instanced.
Dynamis just seems to use the same zone file, with different NPC information.
Although the new Dynamis are their own seperate zone files. (Qufim, Valkrum & Bubrurmu)

I think mog hosues are the only instanced content in FFXI. I could be wrong, but if there's a limit on the number of groups able to inter the BC/ENM/Dynamis/whatever it's probably not actually instanced.

Assualt doesn't sound instanced either.

Looks like anyone inside is summoned out by NPCs when a group begins an Assualt.

lol i dont think it will be like wow where the game is focused as that the only way of getting some of the best armor and people get all pissed if you mess with 1 part lol

I'm actually looking forward to this. I hope that there is more to this than just go in kill a bunch of things before you run out of time. I'd rather there be some story to the tasks you get to select, such as maybe retrieving documents taken from the company, or rescuing captive workers.

As well, with instances you can have highly scripted events that add extra spice to a dungeon.

Coinspinner's right, this isn't instanced at all. When a group is in there, you'll have to wait. I can already envision the hours worth of lines of people trying to get in, with several "jerk" groups spamming trade-in or however this is activated (Unless there's a reservation system, like those ballista matches) And if the rewards are gewd, I'm willing to bet all the major HNM shells are gonna camp this thing until the cows come home, or the expansion, whichever comes first.

The instance are usually special battles. For example when you fight against Omega weapon and Ultima weapon. The battle itself not only is very hard, but it also unfolds story line too.

It's not something you'll be doing everyday. You'll run into these instance probably only once a month. Or once a week if you cound dynamis.

Dynamis as an instance is a neccesity because everyone inside can lot every drop (and a 1,000,000 item to enter). It will be a huge mess if you let everyone go in as they want.
