i dont think they would end it for a long long time anyway, look at EQ not sure if that ended or not with EQ2 but look how long it was around, DAoC has been around for awhile and people are still playing that to death

EQ1 is still growing. They still make expansions for it. It has a diehard fanbase.

So does UO by the way - they recently released another expansion for it as well.

Great classics take a long, long time to die. The few games that have had to shut down were due to fundamental problems.

yeah i dont think they would totally shut the game down, saw something on G4 (yeah i know it sucks but was nothing else on) about mmos shutting down and the games that were shut down were ones you hardly ever hear about, and ffxi, even tho not talked about asd much as WoW, is still really popular and a big name mmo with well over a million people playing

Become very pissed and dissapointed. I mean, I haven't even scratched the surface of this game, yet.

I would totally go back and finish all the game titles that i've abandoned playing FFXI.

I'd start looking for another MMO to play eventually. Nothing really catches my eye, save EQ2, which looks mildly interesting.

It's not really an appropriate comparison.
It doesn't count as 'scrapping' a game to simply not make a new one. They made a ton of mega man games. They may yet make another one, but in the meantime it isn't costing them money to maintain the old games.

The only reason anyone would scrap an online game is because it no longer makes money.

FFXI will likely make money long after SE makes another MMO.


Yet another quick comparison... The text-only game (MUD), Gemstone IV still charges people 15 dollars a month and they still make money.

Go figure.

If ffxi were to shutdown.... I'd feel.... relieved. yeah, i'd feel calm and refreshed. FFXI takes up a lot of time... i mean a lot of time. I have RPG's i gotta finsih before KH2 comes out and before PS3 comes out. I even have GCN games i have to finish. No matter how you say it, for a 8-5 5days of the week working person. FFXI can not co-exist with other forms of entertainment. Either of which will suffer lack of attention. I mean i got anime to watch and im sure as hell not giving up anime watching time to play ffxi, thats just BS. But all this dosent stop me from playing extremely casually. i mean, i log on, synth some stuff, put it on the ah, say hi to the LS if anyone is on and log off only to rinse and repeate the next day with the mind set i'll spend more time on ffxi which i end up allocation to anime/ battle field 2/ star ocean TTOE (one of the many rpg's im trying to finish.)

So ffxi shutting down would be like SE focing me to quit since i cant do it on my own and really dont want to eitehr. FFXI is fun and enjoyable.... its just that i have other fun and enjoyable stuff that are easier to do rather than ffxi >.< Thats just one thing. If ffxi were to shutdown, i'd probally import Fantasy Earth and start playing that.

wow didnt expect so much replies in less than day :O and to contribute, i'd probably cry to myself for 1/2hr, then write to SE sayin make a Downloadable single player version of this and make us keep our own players then cry some more b4 jumpin out of a window because SE would never do it ;.; o and i'd undust my Xbox and PS2 b4 jumpin out of a window first
Yeah, im the ONLY person in my school/college to actually PLAY FFXI, any1 else who plays MMO's normally plays WoW -.- but i've added a few people to MSN so i'd keep in touch with them, sometimes idont even go on the game to play it heh

This isnt the first game I've played online, and I know like many in the past, this will come to and end one day whether I am there for that end or not. I was around when MUDs were popular and those things came and went all the time. So this isnt the first massive player online game I've played.

I am sure the end will be bittersweet, but understanding that it has to end sometime, is what keeps things in perspective.

I'd probably spend all the time I do on FFXi playing FF from 1- x2, then after that do it all again until they finally release 12. i would also make sure they wouldn't keep charging my CC and probably play star ocean and simcity 4 and do all the things i havn't done for the last 5 months lol.

Mmmmmmm now you got me thinking...... how many players does FFXI have over WoW I know for a fact that WoW has more users.... But as far as i know most of the japanese players use PS2 for FFXI. unless i am mistaken. So it is going to be interesting to see what happens once PS3 comes out.

I think this game will keep going for a max of 2 years... what do you guys say?

And.... do you think there will be a secord part?

If FFXI was shutdown then I'd go play some other MMO like Vanguard or WoW. I might even go play Dark Age(UO). Its just a game . . not my life.

I'd request SE allow our character data to be downloadable in some form, and them to release the server software so that we can host our own servers. If they were to completely shut down FFXI like that, I see no reason for them to NOT release the server software.

If they didn't do that, I'd be disappointed in their stupidity but I'd move on with my life. FFXI is fun, but not worth crying over

Id want that too but there could just be some lame ass cheaters running around jeuno with ubestuff, maybe se can get another company to host the game properly after its over where everything is kepted fair and maybe add some of the better fan made subbmissions for various things
