I think that screenshot says enough to justify all the work that needs to be done. Sure, any MMO rewards you with more money, better gear, and higher levels.

But what other MMO rewards you with access to even more beautifully designed areas and wonderfully engrossing stories?

When does TGM not hit the nail on the head? This is a game of patience. You can't expect to experience anything right away. You have to work to earn anything in this game. However, after all the hard work you are rewarded immensly.

Re: ...and how does that make you feel?

welcome to our community, i would like to say research servers to see where you might want to end up. think about the type of character and type of job you want to start with. this is where beta is good you can try different characters and jobs. i originally made a male hume charcter (papasmurf) and started in bastok. but i kept seeing all these cute little bouncy tarutaru running around, and i knew that was the race i wanted to be. problem is they are more made for being mages and not melee type characters. but that hasnt stopped me from getting to lvl 71 as a taru darkknight.
i can say for first few hours you will be overwhelmed and not have a clue about where to go or what to do. i would suggest staying in town. exploring the town talking to all the npc's. this will give you some starting quests, and a feel for things and the layout of town. you will also see where to buy starting items. enjoy your time here , make alot of new friends , and dont be shy about asking people questions or to help you out. this is what i enjoy doing most in the game helping new people get started and making them feel welcome.

3> Favorite has nothing to do with how well you'll perform in-game. Taru's use magic, Galka's use axes/swords/medium-sized trees. It all depends on what job you want to be in the game. Every race has their strengths and weaknesses towards jobs and abilities.

Well, I think i've come to terms with the fact that I won't be seeing any of you online for some time...(still getting the 360 & FFXI in april but will be working up north till oct.) I look forward to sinking myself into the game and even meeting some of you. I think however I have found a way to cope with the fact that I have to stare at 2 beta discs without the ability to play em, I'm going to play both FFT (job system) and the FFXII demo (similar battle system) while logged on to this site! LOL! Think it'll work?

                    Which FF Character Are You?

Welcome and let me Add, I've been playing beta 2002 almost 4 years now,and itts the only mmo, I've NEVER stopped paying for. I always have something to do even when real life concerns dominate my play time.
I seriously love wondering around and getting killed just because I wanted to see if I could do it alone.
Seriously outside of ZM/PM missions and city missions, My best time was soloing
rank5 as a 26 war ^^. I had help to get the items. But actually perfroming the mission alone felt Very metal gearish. And was a highlight of my time online.

                      Then I met prishe.....
                      It's Official Promathia Hates me....

Dunno how bad Middie is with their economy (It used to stink so bad, flies hovered over the name whenever I tried to log in) but I remember telling many people a year ago to not land there (I used to be on Middie)

Hades is full o' gil buyers and online trannies. Don't come here if you're looking for honest players and an honest relationship. Heh.

Unicorn is sexy. Might want to go there. I was going to start all over on that server, but my best friend from RO days quit there a while back. No real reason for me to go anywhere now (Most of my friends already quit)

Welcome Ohsa to FFXI. Hopefully you'll end up in Garuda, where I have two characters that are just dying to help you. Only problem is that I play during weekends. Worse, since I'm more focused on the internet, I play it only occasoinally. But I do play when I get the chance.

Re: ...and how does that make you feel?

                            Don't drop your beastmen seals.
You can sort your inventory to stack items. Beastmen seals can stack to 99. You will want them past lvl 20. DO NOT throw them away - I swear there should be a huge sign outside every city saying this.

Learn the ins and outs of the Auction House - you will use it a lot. But check the shops in the cities first. They are almost always cheaper. Practice using your map while running - this can save your life later on.

Learn to use food - it makes all the diffrence, especially at low levels where the effects are more pronounced. Food is expensive, so investigate cooking your own, easiest to do in Windhurst where there is a cooking guild. You can also /heal, where you kneel down and rest your health back to full.

Always get signet cast on you by the city guards, who are at each exit. The enemies will now drop crystals, which stack to 12. These are used in crafting and fetch good prices on the Auction House.

Watch out for Goblins and Beastmen (Yuagado, Orc and Quadav), they will attack you if you get too close. This is called aggro, short for aggression. Other creatures will also aggro if you are below them in levels. Aggro means they will attack without warning. Normally, a monster will only attack if you attack them first. To get past an aggressive monster, wait until their back is turned and you can usually get past. Monsters will also be more aggressive when you /heal - find a safe spot before resting, and keep an eye out for charging monsters.

Fight solo in the first areas until you are around level 10. Once you have made level ten, make your way to the dreaded Valkrum Dunes. Let everyone know you want to join a party by raising your party flag. Head to Selbina, and set your home point here. You also might want to find the NPC who starts your subjob quest.

When in Valkrum Dunes, be VERY careful of aggro from goblins, if a monster starts beating on you, ZONE. Zoning means exit to a different area, the monster will not follow and you will be safe. Do not re-enter the area you left immediately, rest and heal first.

When you get a party invite, use /join to join. The other party members will appear on your map. They will tell you a spot which is the camp. Ask for map co-ordinates if you cannot find them. WATCH OUT for aggro - if a monster is chasing you, ZONE - don't drag it back to the party with you. The party won't mind waiting if death is avoided.

I hope this can help you, I know I needed this advice when I began ^^

Lastly, DON'T PANIC. If something is going bad/wrong/up the creek without a paddle, it's ok, you can learn from your mistakes if you don't stress about it.

And the #1 rule, HAVE FUN! If the Dunes are annoying you (happens often enough for me) try a quest, mission, go farming, fishing, crafting, explore! There is much, much more to the game than grinding levels and uber gear.
