Hey! I'm new to ffxionline and i have to say it's a great site! Due to the fact that I can't wait calmly for 18th of April (360 release date), i've become an info whore and want to suck up as much info about FFXI as possable so that I don't go into it completely blind. I was wondering if you all could share some of your experiences with the game as well as your thoughts on how FFXI fares? Imput would be greatly appreciated!

it's slow... time consuming... tedius and rediculously addictive. I spend many many many many hours a day in game just fishing... and fishing... and fishing...

This game is awesome. While I fish, I do it for fun (Jei takes it a bit more seriously =P), and I level my black mage and whitemage. Moreover, it's always fun to roleplay. Im a tarutaru, and people left and right think I'm cute. I can do just about anything and get away with it!

Yes FFXI is very addictive. Once you get past the initial frustration and get into the swing of the game, your always looking towards the next goal to complete. "Now if only I could finish this mission....." Mission completed. "OMG that happens in the next mission!!? I have to get on that!!" On to the next mission! "Oh I get convert at lvl 40!! I can't wait to get there!" Exp Exp Exp "Convert rocks but I need refresh now!!" Exp some more! "Artifact Armor is AWESOME!! Can't wait!!" Quest Quest Quest! "Oh wow we can kill that in endgame!? That is so cool!" Exp exp exp!!

Then there is crafting, CoP, Zilart, Sky, Sea, and on and on.....Now on the 18th of April we'll have even more to see and more to explore and more to fight and more drops to get......

Be prepared to spend far too many hours doing repetitive, boring tasks.

That's not to say that the game is bad, but in the end I felt the time and effort to fun ratio was ridiculous. Far too much time must be spent doing X in order to obtain Y.

Just what everyone's saying. This game is addictive, tedious at times, and with a steep learning curve.

BUT, this games difficulty is the reward in store for you. You CANNOT fly through this game. There's almost no aspect you can fly through besides Level1-10[job]. The hours upon hours of menial, "mindless" tasks are worth the great stuff you get and the awesome people you meet.

That, in my opinion, is the best part about this game besides story line. The people are helpful, especially if your motivated to do your best. You run into the occasional ass, but those r usually the people that don't know what they're doing anyway. Other than that, the game is friendly enough to go around slapping random people and have it turn into a slap fight in Lower Jeuno.

Also, a wealth of knowledge is contained within these forums. Please don't hesitate to use the search function for assistance! It's open 24-7.

The only info you should really gather is knowing your party role/job role. Any other things should be left for yourself to discover. More fun imo.

Maybe someone allready said this (probably), but expect to be looking for a group a great deal of time. But hey you can do what i do and just read a magizine/book while waiting.

The missions are a major selling point of this game. The basic cities missions are nothing to wright home about but when you start doing Zilart and CoP, you will be blown out of the watter.
Me and half of my end game LS just got Sea access this weekend, and after losing to the same fight 18 or so times it feals SO GOOD. I have never felt like I actualy DID something in a game before, but because I went thruogh hell and death with my best in-game friends it makes it feal all that mutch better.
The community is what makes me love this game. I'v spend two years of my life in this game, and the sad thing is I'm closser friends with some of them then I am with people I know in real life.

This game sounds awsome guys! I can't wait to play it, I would have had an earlyer start but a ps2 slimline, and an old comp have been my hurdles. I have the 360 beta disc...just need too pick up a 360 w/HDD before the end of beta. As for the hours upon hours needed to invest, no prob, i thrive on the tedious leveling aspect. All in all, with all the info i've been able to soak in from the site, i'm really looking forward to getting in the game! The only online game exp i have is with a "devilish" series *sigh* and it became corrupt and an unrewarding experience withing a very short period of time. From what I gather I should be pleasently suprised and enjoy the FFXI online experiencebeing a longtime FF followers!
Thanks for all the imput, i'm looking forward to seeing some of you online and posting based on experience rather than speculation.

Well, everytime someone mentions that FFXI is "hard" or "rewarding" someone always comes in and informs us of how much work you need in WoW or whatever. I've been around here for a while and these threads always brew WoW debates.
