I don't like thinking about experience per hour, but it came up in my original thread here in the returning players discussion. Someone said that I could solo or duo and expect abotu 1000 experience per hour, and if I was okay with grinding out over 800,000 experience that way so be it...

Actually I think that's pretty good...

If I were getting 1,000 experience per hour I would make it to 75, in theory, in less time than it took me to get to 60 in everquest 2, which is generally considered an earier game than FFXI, and in which I soloed practically the whole time.

I don't plan on doing this by the way. My wife doesn't play often enough for us to do this. If we duoed all the time she would make it to 75 (assuming she didn't play an advanced job) in about 4 years.

Personally, if I could get 1,000 per hour soloing I could get an advanced job to 75 in about a year with the amount of time I have to play.

I plan on partying, however, as I've grown to like it.

So... What's reasonable experience per hour in a mid to high level party? The only experience I have is getting to 20 in <Valkrum Dunes> and that was 1,000 per hour or less unless I used an empress band.

Hm, a good party for me would accrue about 6-7k xp per hour (with band, of course) I'm level 45 blm, btw.

i've gotten 10k an hour in Bibiki Bay a few times, 1st hour only b/c of empress band. after that 8.5-9k an hour with that same party.

      that's ~3 times in 8 levels though

normally I get 6-7k/hr excluding empresss band boosting the 1st hour

Seeing as im 10k away from 60 on my main job and i havent been in many pt's with exp/hr of over 4-5k and just last saturday i was in a pt that had over 8k/hr for the first time in 2 jobs 2 60(mnk and rng) i wouldnt expect great stuff at lower lvls. I figure that 4k all the way up to 40, maybe as early as 30-32 when ur really going on mobs in the yhoatar jungle would be a good party. From then on 4-5k an hour is good to 60. At 60 go to LoZ or bibiki bay and jump to 8k an hour for a good pt. At 65+ if ur not a monk become friends with some and get 10k/hr off light chains in Gustav and KRT. Thats what ive come to understand is pretty close to the truth from my own experience and that of others. i may b wrong

an average party at the lower levels will be 2-4k per hour xp. once i made 8,000 xp an hour for an hour and a half in dunes. for dunes, that's awesome! but it only happened once, in one seriously awesome pt of 6 dd's and a pl (hehe), and everyone knew what they were doing and were excellent players. most dunes parties suck though...

i have personally only made more than 6k xp an hour (no ring) a very few times though. maybe half a dozen times to maybe a dozen, tops. most of my parties average 4-6k xp, unless it's a crappy pt. that's not in valkrum dunes/quifim island, though. most of the jobs i level are in the 40-60 range atm.

As has been said, other things can affect the amount of exp you get. If you get in a pt of veteran players, the exp an hour could be significantly better. In lower lvls, newer players need to learn the dynamics of partying and so the exp can be rather slow. It seems around lvl 25-30 people start getting the hang of it and pt's run smoother and the exp is better. But with any party it depends a lot on your members, if there are a lot of pt's in the zone your in, how good of a puller you have, etc. When we go into sky and go golems in the celestial nexus we can get 13k exp an hour. It just takes the right place, time, and people to make a party click.

              for party...
12+k/hour is godly. Only in merit pt (lv 75) with the right set up can do.
              6k/hour is good.
              3k/hour I say is acceptable.
below 3k is bad. It will happen once in a while.
500-1k/ hour is not bad for soloing I guess.

You can kinda guess the EXP/hour from the PT set up.
After a while you'll know what a good set up look like.

Partying is fun tho if someday you have more hours to play don't pass on it :D

i think after 60, if you can get 10k per xp session in a reasonable amount of time, 2-3 hours. thats pretty standard pt. there are some points where, with say a 4 melee setup and rdm+brd sort of pt, you can rake in some great xp numbers. 3k/hr is i think the avg. any pt should be able of getting.

                    3k/hour I say is acceptable.
This is my personal cutoff for exp parties. If the party I am in is unable to make 3k exp per hour I straight out say, "Hey, this really isn't working. Let's just disband and stop wasting each others' time." If I'm really desperate for exp though I may bite my tongue since even in the worst parties it is usually still faster than solo exp.

                      Re: experience/hour

You will not get 1k exp an hour outside of BST and a couple of other odd job combos soloing (Especially after level 25) EP fights can take a while and it also depends on how well you mitigate damage (either through evasion-type of action, absorbing damage or being able to somehow recover loss hp) Let's not forget recovery of hp and mp at the end of a fight.

Theoretically, even with an exp ring, the highest amount of exp from EP (Borderline DC) monsters are about 48 exp per kill. If it takes you 5 minutes each fight (including downtime) then you can expect at most 576 exp per hour. This is definitely not a fun way to play FFXI. Add in the risk of add and bad luck (it can happen fairly often) and you'll notice that even 500 exp an hour is good through soloing for most players.

In a party, exp rate is typically dependant upon where and what you're fighting and with whom. To get upwards of well over 10K exp an hour in today's environment (Let's leave the pre-RNG nerf days out of this discussion) will require not only excellent players and teamwork, but excellent gear, food, beverage, buffs and a perfect condition in spawn rates and camping location.

Generally, most players can expect on average of about 3 to 4k exp an hour, no matter what level they are after their 30s. I will not add in the freak hours and static party conditions since that is not the norm for this game and across ALL servers.

If you're averaging roughly 1 to 2k an hour exp in a party, then it's wiser to disband the party.

If you're averaging roughly 2 to 3k an hour, it might be good to discuss either finding another camp location or possibly disbanding the party altogether if it is during peak hours and no one is happy about the situation.

I'd say anywhere from 3k to 4k is a good start. By solidifying teamwork and trying to accomodate pulling and resting conditions, you can tweak the flow rate from this point and improve performance up to 25% or so.

After 5k to 6k an hour, the rate doesn't get much better unless the conditions get better. For example, if you're achieving this rate and there's 2 other parties in the area, as soon as one of the party leaves, the exp flow might increase more. Sometimes, it might be less, because mob spawning can become unpredictable and hamper pullers.

Increasing exp rate beyond this requires two things:

-Fighting monsters that are not entirely difficult to kill. Either this means a slightly lower con check or monsters that happen to be weak to the offense and defense capabilities of the majority of your party members.

-Your party is the only party in the area fighting these monsters.

Hitting 10k and beyond requires either end game conditions and/or unique parties with odd job combinations.
