Reinstalling My Game. Update Is Spoiling Everything!

I had to re-format my PC because the new update is causing an installation problem, and the breakdown of my PC.

After re-formatting, I set everything back up again (all the little programs I use - WinRar, Winamp, PaintSho Pro e.t.c) and loaded FFXl back onto my PC.
I got to the update of my game, and it got to 99% (which took quite a while to get there) and was suddenly stuck with 4 seconds left, and wouldn't complete the process from there.
I'm just wondering if I may have loaded the 2 expansions in the wrong order.

After loading the Play Online disc, and main part of the game, (with 3 discs) I then decided to load up Chains Of Promathia, (with 2 discs) and lastly, Rise Of The Zilart. (with 1 disc)

Do you see the pattern? Main game - 3 discs. CoP - 2 discs. Zilart - 1 disc.
This is how I thought you should load it.

Though having said this..... I'm just hoping that Zilart comes before CoP instead.
Is this correct?

You have installed them in the wrong order.

POL -> FFXI -> Zilart -> CoP

As to whether it matters I dont know, Ive never intentionally reinstalled them in the wrong order, what I will say, is that at the end of the current update mine stalled also, but after a while it completed by itself.

Also, if you had described to us your initial problems we may have been able to help.

Rule of thumb is to always install expansions in chronological order of release:

Install POL, let it update, it restarts, log in and make sure your account details are fine.
Exit POL.

Install FFXI, click OK to the dialog after it has installed - Do not start FFXI/POL
Install Zilart, click OK to the dialog after it has installed - Do not start FFXI/POL
Install CoP, click OK at the dialog.

Start up POL, log in, choose FFXI, Play, OK, and let it update.
Click OK after the update and play.

Odds are there will be thousands of files to check after the install, but just let it do its job. If you do have to turn off your machine during the update, thats fine, as it will 'remember' what files it has downloaded and wont need to download them again, however, it will probably have to run the fileversion check first, and then resume the downloads from where it got to before turning off your machine.

If it stalls, leave the machine alone, let it do its thing.

At the end of the day, RTFM, it's all in there.

You have installed them in the wrong order.

POL -> FFXI -> Zilart -> CoP

I belive the only order you need to worry about is POL -> FFXI.
I think that you can install either CoP or Zilart, or both in any order because the main expansion content is not interelated. You would be unable to access some areas but you could play the main game with only POL and FFXI installed.
