It's like NQ Avatar battles, except the avatars are harder and the drops aren't guarunteed, and I think there's only one drop per avatar. For completing the quest you recieve the Carbuncle Rod or Staff or something. HQ avatars are a lot more fun to kill, even though it's possible your entire alliance could die in all of half a second.

      Re: New Avatar Fights

Y'know, I did the update last night, and got to work on "Mission Night." Did Rank 8 and went to bed because I've been sick lately. I didn't check into anything new added, or /shouts in Lower Jeuno.

This is an Odude thing. I've always said I wasn't going to level SMN until I had beat all the Primes. I've been the Primes all 3 times or more, I've beat and obtained Fenrir, and I'm working on getting PMs so I can unlock Diabolos and then level SMN.

This is just the kind of thing I like doing. I don't much care for the drops, I mean it would be nice to get good drops and be able to make some gil, but I enjoy the satisfaction of doing things like this.

Took my group 5 tries to beat Fenrir. And when my Water III landed unresisted and we finally killed the Doggy it felt great! I can imagine something like this would feel comparable.

the rewards are really bad for the fighting you gotta do ><

i'd rather stick to the six person fights than the alliance versions

Actually, the avatar battles don't drop anything. Just the key item Eye of XXXXX (kind of like Whisper of XXXXX). And the elementals in there drop clusters (and are defeated automatically once the avatar is dead). The ONLY place to get the weapon drop is the Carbuncle Prime fight (final battle).

            Re: New Avatar Fights

So your saying spending 9 hours to get to this BC. And 2 hours to fight the end BC, die 9-10 times in the process all for a carbys poll that you toss is supposed to be fun and worth it?

Heh, the fights were fun yes. But not worth it AT ALL. If this was not so hard, it would be fine. And if you did not have to have 18 people to do this, it would be fine. But what SE has done is made a BC no one will do again. Not to even mention the gil spent on items for the fights.

So what you will, but this was in no way fun to the point anyone wants to repeat it. I doubt even now you have yet to fight in any of these.

Heres a bit how I got my LS and Alliance startd on this BC.

When maint had 30 mins left I logged into POl and updated. Then went on to chat. Alot of people were saying that this quest unocked BP's for summoners. So I decided I would give it a shot. Logged in and was 1 of 211 people allready online. I went straight to La Theine and got the CS. Went to Rabao and mini-warped to cloister of gales. Went in to test the BC. Found out some info and warped to jeuno to get an alliance. After over 2 hours of putting this together we set out. Susurrus was one of the members in this alliance, we fought the avatars and made it to the BC, all while under the impresion we would possibly get new BP's or nice equips. We go in and fight carby. We wiped a few times and kept eating r1s to try and finish this BC. When last 5 carbys poped we astral flowed and started landing it on them. Time ran out before we got to land all astral flows (10 of them). We broke and went to bed. I got up early and joined a pt. Went in and died 4 more times and got the clear. All I got was a lousy poll.. I was so mad for the fact that this was so hard to do and all we get is a poll that I tossed.... I logged.

Now you tell me if all that work was worth it? And all the lost exp? And the fact that the fun part of it was destoryd with no reward. So says its fun all you want. But I wont be doing it again unless LS members what the poll.

I don't really feel like the risk is worth the reward for this. Does the Latent Effect work if a SMN in the PT has an avatar out or only you? Even if that is the case, keeping a certain avatar out is kinda expensive.

Perhaps if those Carbuncle Cuffs drop...but even they're not too good except for soloing.

                Re: New Avatar Fights

Does it drop items like a BC, or does every person get the item? If it's like a BC then that's kind of dissapointing, because Ifrit's bow is one of the items I would like to get.

Exactly my point.... at this point, this BCNM is not worth it!!! at all! Now that we know the reward, nobody in my ls wants to do it! What a shame, SE better chane the reward, get a new avatar or something.

I was thinking there was something hidden here they haven't activated yet.. maybe Bahamut summon.. (wishful thinking)

Has anyone thought the Carbuncle Pole could have some crazy Hidden Effect?

                          Re: New Avatar Fights

The main problem I see is all the weapons that are decent, aren't usable as SMN...so that means people hafta sub SMN, and who is going to invite a DRG/SMN or WAR/SMN? If it also unlocks the Avatar's final move, then it is worth it, but I haven't seen any proof of this. The Carbuncle Pole Hidden Effect would have to be pretty dang impressive to merit all that effort.

I can't imagine SE being as short sighted as to not realize the Carbuncle Pole is grossly unworthy of the effort you have to go through to get it. There has to be something more to this.

We all know one thing though. Square Enix has been notorious all along of hiding shyt from us in plain view. They love handing out some mundane seeming item and making us figure out the hidden aspects of it.

Carby's Pole has been tested for hidden effects like -perpet on Carby etc. and nothing showed up. Only thing that was revealed was that its latient was activated with Carby out.

                                Re: New Avatar Fights

So nothing's been figured out in the whole 2 days since the patch? 48 hours of testing (Assuming everyone who has one got it right after maintenance was finished, which I doubt), and nobody's found a hidden effect. Man, with that extensive and lengthy testing scenario, if we haven't found anything by now there's no way there could be anything we're missing.

I mean, it couldn't have taken more than 48 hours for the population to figure out Kung Fu Shoes gave +40 Kick Attacks. Or the -Perpetuation cost on the HQ staves. Or any number of other Hidden effects in items. Surely we've had them all worked out and down pat within 2 days. Surely....

                                /sarcasm off
