A dunes party that shuns a WHM, even with no sub, are complete retards - it just doesnt happen.
What do you call a VD party that has like 5 mages, 3 of them white? I got a blind invite on my WHM once and that's what I saw ... 5 mages, 3 of them white (including myself) with level ranges from that level 10 warrior who put this together to the level 19 whitemage (myself) At first, I thought it was a joke ... but then realized that this person had no subjob, was rank 1 and was seriously having issues with getting around in his own in-game menus ...

sadly, rank doesn't mean much nowadays Impaction. I've seen more than my fair share of rank 7+ morons playing this game. heck, during my first weekend back playing I got into a party with a rank 6 leader who insisted on not inviting another level 12 (NIN) because having 2 level 12's (i was the other) would gimp XP.

hehehe. while I played bard I PT with a paladin who insisted I sing only HP songs because other songs were {too weak}. He didn't even want ballad.

Ranks can't tell good players from bad, but still, they are *the* only indication about the player's experience. : /
when looking at search list, there's nothing much you can tell except, maybe, sub job + search comments + rank.

a good search comment is a far better indication of experience than rank imho

Well, when it comes to invites in the Dunes rank will help out a lot, but I completely agree with you about the high rank idiots. Some people can scrape by using the smallest amount of competence only when it's really necessary and complete missions and quests. Others are just babied or leech right through.

Whenever I prepare for a mission, quest, or otherwise I pull up maps, Alla, Somepage, KI, all for comments and possible suggestions and other hints. For maps I suggest ffxi-maps.com or ffxi-atlas.com, I think it's the same site. KI has mission lists that are easier to navigate, but Alla has comments.

yea, nothing is like leading a rank 7, 8, 9 alliance when people ask you 17 times, where to go next. then when you get to your nm battle, whatever it may be, someone always ends up saying, OMGARSH WTF I CANT GET THE KEY ITEM?~?~~?~?~?~??

anyhow, yes, please do ur hw as impaction said. its not hard to pull up somepage.com or mysterytour or wtfever. if you're playing this game, you have internet connection. use it.

rank doesnt mean squat. it never has and never will. ive had a pld tell me if you use divine seal with sleepga, it works.... and he was HELPING us, not actually part taking in the festivities. so go figure.

I just got rank 2 today cause there is no one looking to do those missions anymore, and im lvl 25 blm, but i got some random nice pepole to help me. So for the very new players just cayse we dont have a high rank dosent mean we totaly suck its just hard to find pepole to do it with.

                    rank dont show anything much.
Rank are only for story or access to mission or sky. But there are quite some number of people who go for rank to show off and think they are Pro =.="
At least to me i dont care about rank. i am only rank6 just the enough rank for do ZM and get Sky. yet i have 2 lv75, 2 lv60 and most 37 sub. Rank to me is not important as long as you can go to where we want to pt and know what to do in the pt

I call them all too common these days.

I live in the UK, I usually play through the week 4pm - 11pm, and at weekends from about 8am - 11pm (if I get my own way and while doing other things).

Especially through the week, parties start forming at around 6pm, and they usually consist of uneven members, such as loads of mages, or none at all.

In between 8-10pm is usually peak time for grouping, and when I get my most exp in a group.

After 10pm the better players from the US get on, and I can usually get myself into some great parties.

During the weekend, if I can get on early enough, Im usually lucky enough to get into an all JP party with a couple of friends I have made, the middle of the day is boring and I usually solo a class till later on in the day when I can start the grouping process again.

Unfortunately people who are having trouble seeking groups may well just be logging on at the wrong times - I find its best to do a search in the area that I want to level in, for people around my respective level. If there arent a lot of people on then switch class, and come back in a few hours and see what it's like then.

I think Square must have put something in the water for the abundance of RDMs when I restarted the game and began playing the class - I partied with a lot of other RDMs in the early levels, and wondered why everyone seemed to want to be that class.

Thankfully it wasnt too bad - one can main cure, the other nuke, another melee.

I think Im particularly lucky, during the time I log in during the week, on an evening, one set of players is logging off (JP) so I can usually edge into a JP party if they are seeking replacements, EU peeps are just getting on after work and can get into their parties, and the NA folks are also getting on too!

Then again Ive done a lot of the 'bad parties just for xp and hope never to see them again' where I put up with whatever I have to just to get to the next level.

If you are suffering the many mage problem, then make sure you have a melee class up to double figures too, you can offer to switch depending on whatever the team needs - a few two or three hour sessions and you can have WHM, MNK, and WAR to 10 easy, it will also give you more choice for subs and advanced jobs later.
