  • Is it worth it?

I have been looking for a new MMORPG to throw my life into lately, and I find it best to ask from the people who play it: "IS IT WORTH IT?" and more importantly, can you stay intrested in it?

    wyh?
I recently let my WoW-subcription expire due to getting too bored with just running after marginally better stuff after reaching level 60. RP gets boring too.
I started to look for an alternative, and only few canditates popped-up. DDO, RF-Online or FFXI, ffxi mainly because its cheap prize caught my eye (13,9€ the whole shebang)

    - Does FFXI contain enough goals to reach?
    I like to grind

    -
    Is there any PvP?
    Pawn tem

    - FFXI is fairly old game, 3 years(?) how is the eye-candy?

    - What about this gil-farming business I hear about? How much does it affect expecially starting players.

    - And lastly, is there "room" for new players?
Meaning, guild (is there even guilds? ) recruiting and all dat.

    I wait your comments.

    1. There's PLEANTY to do, not just get the ultimate gear.

    2. There is PvP but it's set in matches called Ballista.

    3. Some of the original areas are a bit dull, but the newer ones (Zilart, CoP and the new one coming out) are extremely good.

    4. You'll find that everything is harder to obtain in this game (and other MMORPG's for that matter), compared to WoW (I have played WoW for awhile as well, and it is easy to get a lot of stuff).

    5. There's pleanty of room for new players. Hell, there's even the whole xbox360 people that are going to be coming in during April.

"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

There is always alot going on about gilsellers but I dont think it effects starting players much, not in a bad way anyway.

I recently started on a new server (Bismark). I used to play on Asura.

Just levelling whitemage, thief and monk to level 5 each, I got enough crystals and drops and made myself about 60kish gil. Thats a good amount of money to get started levelling a job to 20 or so.

Prices are higher because of gilsellers mainly pushing prices on items and more money being in the market, but what alot of people forget is prices are high to buy stuff, but also high to sell stuff (so you can make alot of money as well).

        yeah it is worth it.

you have more to do then you ever can do :D

you have goals from the beginning, your first will be to get your sub job ability.
then to get some advanced jobs and so many other goals..

        PvP is called Ballista (conflict)
you have to join teams and there are different kind of Ballista.
in one you fight with you home City against other City
and the other system you can form 2 groups and fight each other.

        like Omecle said,

        /nod

i never played WoW, you will have to do a lot for your goals, and there are evertime new goals you want to reach

gil farming, it`s quite easy for a newcomer to get some gil, you can sell some items for good gil to other players and get yorself needed stuff from the standard vendors from each city. should be not a problem. later you will have a lack of gil, so farming becomes a new meaning.

the same like Omecle said :-)
find a nice LS and make some friends, teamwork is one big part in final and new players are welcome ^^

While it is true that with inflation you are selling for a higher price, what people seem to look over is that you're buying for a much higher price as well. So while you think that you're making all this good gil because of inflation, the prices are actually worse than they used to be.

Yes, when you first start your character, the extra gil will help you out a fait bit. But wait until you start leveling a job past level 35. That's when you'll really start seeing how fucked up things are.

Then FFXI is your game, plain and simple. Quests, Sea, Sky, Storylines for each nation, Zilart storyline, CoP storyline, each job to 75, then add in equip/item goals and well your going to spend alot of time in FFXI just to get to a small portion of it all.

Not like there is in WoW. It's Ballista here and you have to wait for games. Think of it more like the battlegrounds in WoW.

Animations are better than most MMORPGS out there honestly. Graphic wise I feel it is still good even in the current market of MMORPGS(better than D&D Online imo). The PS2 limits the graphics engine upgradeability but maybe someday S-E will give in and upgrade the PC and Xbox360 versions.

            Honestly I wouldn't know. Gil-farming was almost non-exsistant when I started playing over 2 years ago :x

Welcome to the game! and well i think all servers have their pros and cons, if you have friends on a certain server, tell them to get you a world pass!
