  • How Do You Get Your Quests And Recipes E.t.c.?

I haven't posted on here for a while and have been away.
But now I'm back for a while and have a new question to ask.

Each time I do any quests to try and raise fame, or gather items for recipes in guilds, I either feel the need to write down the recipes as I read them ingame, or print out both (recipes and quests) as I read them from "allakhazam" or any of the other FFXl helpful sites like "somepage.com" or "mysterytour" e.t.c.
And since there are quite a lot of quests for each town or city in Vana 'diel, it would take up quite a bit of printer ink every now and again.
Funnily enough, I am having to go and buy some more, and have ran out.

If I don't print these things out, (especially quests) then I end up forgetting them after I have logged into the game.

So what I'm wondering is...... am I the only person who would print things out, and does anyone have their own way of remembering without having to print, like I do?
Maybe you just have a good memory.

back when i only had 1 PC and play full screen, I would look things up on websites and write down only what I was about to do. like, a few quests, a few recipes and work on them.

now i just use my laptop to check stuff

          Fishy

          There once was fish,

          Whom made a perfect dish

          To a giant fish.

          The giant fish was caught,

          By a Mithra which sought

          To fill her hunger.

          The Mithra was slayed,

By a monster whom would raid

          The land.

          What have we learned?

Some players play the game on the PS2. This frees up their PC so that they can check the internet.

However, you can use Windower in the very basic form and you can alt+tab and go online and go back in the game without issues.

You know, SE should've created a windowed option in the game, but for some reason, they opted not too. It's so not difficult to implement and if a 3rd party program can do it with such ease, I see no reason for SE to be stubborn on this issue.

I used to print them out but as more quests and recipies keep getting added the infomation becomes outdated then you got to do it all again. Not very economic.

Now I either remember the recipe I need or use the windower to let me ALT-TAB to somepage or Alla.

Wow! That sounds very handy for someone who has more than one computer. I guess I am like you back then, cause I only have one PC to play FFXl

Erm.... purple text?? What are you talking about?

2 or 3 of you have mentioned the windower. Is that the smaller screen minimized before it goes to full screen?
You are half logged in at that point, and don't have the option to be in the game at the same time as searching things on websites.

I presume that Alt+Tab would minimize the game in the way I mentioned, so I might see how that goes for me.

Ahh! I see what you mean now. Clearly I was just misunderstood.
But personally, I see it as being more of a pink colour than purple.
Purple is a little more darker.

Windower is a 3rd party software. There is no "windowed" option yet in FFXI (POL is already in windowed mode) However, there are controversies with using Windower, so be well advised if you make that choice. I personally think that most of the discussion revolves in the technicalities with the ToA and other legalese and feel that, for the most part -- in the most basic form -- that Windower is not harmful to the game in anyway at all.

If you want the nitty gritty details... Windower allows FFXI to be able to "hook" to your Windows API and be able to "Window" in your OS. That's all it does. It just provides a connection from the game to your OS and does not alter in anyway your game files and what have you. The only situation I see this happening is when you use 3rd party plug-ins for Windower that actually alters files in your POL/FFXI folders...

To put it in perspective, I find it laughable for people, who run parsers, to criticize players that run Windower. Basically, both parties are in violation of the technicalities discussed in this situation and both programs function in pretty much the same way -- using existing data without altering the original files within the POL/FFXI directories.

If you think about it, whenever you install a "3rd party program" in Windows (whatever flavor of Windows you are using at the moment) you are violating Microsoft's EULA... going by the same logic as the arguments that is taking place.

I used to not have a wireless router, so even though I was on PS2, I couldn't check the internets, but I could open up a crapload of pages and use them after I d/ced from my computer. But now, with the router, I can check the internets while playing.
