Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
Hey everyone! I've been playing on and off since PS2 beta release and I have yet to take a job to 75, in all honesty I'm not that pressed about it. I have a level 69 pld female on Odin server, had a dynamis ls, sky, rank 9 etc.. etc..., then I had some rl friends ask me to start a character on Unicorn soooo I did I'm now a 52 whm taru and still not that pressed to get 75! I do miss the big ls events, not for the drops ( the perks )..... I loved zmissions and I actually enjoyed dynamis, just for the excitement and the kicks from beating mass quantites of mobs and trying to keep everyone alive! :D
I play to have fun I refuse to have coronary because I didn't get the drop?
Peace!
Edit: I assume you mean Noob 360 players =P *tease*
Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
It is a serious problem. And an agitating one at that. If someone wants 75 and the best of the best *right now*, that's just peachy. But when they start ragging on everyone else they see for not having top of the line equip, that's where they cross the line. I think someone mentioned earlier about thfs and others being kicked from pts for not having what the leader thought they should have. I knew a mnk kicked from one because he didn't have SH. And that is just frankly, utter bull. The pressure to have the best equipment is what really makes me terrified of moving forward any further in my job. People charge so for MP+ anything... and if I don't have what the leaders think I should have, I'm soon going to find myself pt-less. Not that I'm not trying. I've been busting my ass farming the past little while, but this is my first job to 75, and it's not exactly easy. I'd do the BCNMs, but it seems no one ever has time for them. So I've decided I'll do what I can do when I can do it and if I get booted, oh well, there's always another party out there, one without a gil/equip whore for a leader.
I don't know where people get off anyway. You don't know that person. You don't know their real life responsibilites and commitments. They may not have the time for the uber farming that you can do. I know I don't. Between jobs and all the other things I have to do, I get a few hours here and there, maybe a day when I get a day off. And there's just not enough hours in that to farm for that HQ that really *isn't* worth the 3mil price increase for the pissy amount of stat boost it gives over the NQ. That and I frankly don't care. I'm more concerned about skill. As a pt leader or a member, I look to skill, not equip. I never check anyone unless they ask me to look at something. I find it nosy. I don't mind being checked, but I almost never check anyone else. And if I'm lead and someone starts going on about 'so and so doesn't have xxx item on' guess who gets kicked? I'll make it easy. Not the one without the item. Skill > good equipment. Now, if a good player has good equipment, then that's just gravy.
But yeah, I'd say we have a serious problem on our hands. Servers-wide.

Consider yourselves lucky; I can't even play.
Well, just going off of your other thread, that's because you're approaching it in entirely the wrong way.
You don't play the game via this forum. You buy a copy and install it on your PC/Xbox 360/PS2, and you play that way. This forum is just a place to discuss the game, not to actually play it.
The Store and RPG button above is just for a fun little forum RPG battle system that they decided to add to the forums. It's fun, but really has nothing to do with Final Fantasy XI.
For reference, here is the other thread I was referring to:
Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
In truth, I play this game because i enjoy it. I cant really play it that often because many things in my day to day life are further up on my priority like friends, my family, and work.
I want to get to level 75 with my paladin but thats my goal because I love tanking.
I dont care if people do it better than me.
I just want to do my job and be good at it, why because its fun.
I love to see the look in the enemies eyes, and i laugh at him saying, its gonna take alot more than that to kill me!
I also like to help my friends out with what ever they are doing now that im starting to catch them in level because they helped me when I was new.
My thoughts on getting to level 75 the fastest is that some people do it just because they want to be the "best"
I think theres the other percent of the population that just wants to play and have fun doing it.
And besides having a good group of friends means you wont have to argue over who gets what, usually me and my linkshell and friends decide who gets what before hand if it drops.
Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
Honestly, when I first joined the game I wanted the uber gear to show off. Then I realized how bored I will be when I reached my goal with nothing else to do. So now I go around and just have fun helping people, even at a low level. I'm RDM not because of the "ultra fastness of getting to lvl 75", but because I love it. Yeah, sure, I want to be the best RDM I can be, but I'll do other things besides grinding through the mass loads of xp.
Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
It's always been an issue on Caitsith, particularly since the tweek where they made 75 alot more attainable. I do dispute the need to have certain subs tho'. My take has always been that if that's the way they want to play that's their business, they're the ones that have to do the work. I play Wierd subs myself. My take's always been that if a pt leader can't figure out that I've found a way to make /x work for me, then it's their loss. Granted, I'm not keen on a war/smn, but a war/thf or whatever? I don't really have a problem, I just need to get a different tank. Now a whm/mnk is a problem tho'...
so i'm making a payment over the phone of $100 to the cable company and the lady says "not enough" and I'm like "not enough my left nut that's all I got" and she starts in with "then you ain't got no internet" and the next thing you know there I am minus my left nut down at the pawn shop pawning my mom's gold teeth and nobody's really concerned that she's still attached to them which is cool and What? no I don't think this game appeals to the obsessive overly-caffienated no not at all...

Yes, It is a major trend, and it's a pretty big downer. FFXI is a great game, but its community kills it somewhat. Nobody wants to do anything FUN for chrissake. The majority wants to just keep leveling so they can get to 75, and be uber. Adventuring is slowly becoming dead in this game.
I cannot agree more, and it is very disappointing. Some peoples reactions when i decline spending 3 hours in Valkurm dunes killing the same mobs just to go up a few levels is ridiculous. Why some people cant understand that some of us actually want to play the game every now and then is beyond me. If a mission is too tough then i spend time levelling up and PTying. Simple as.
It is a shame that some of the younger players and newer adventurers feel the need to spend all their time looking for their next exp fix and neglect exploring our wonderful world.
I dont know about the rest of you but i started RPGS with games like legend of zelda where exploring and having fun was the name of the game. Its a shame some of this is being lost to people being 'shallow' for want of a better word. /75 is not everything.
Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?
A few months ago I started playing a Black Mage again. Unfortunately I had the mindset to get back to my old level (63) again quickly and within two months or so I got to level 38. A bit too quickly unfortunately, as I got burned out again. I'm still debating whether to come back or not right now, but if I do I will certainly not focus so much on leveling anymore. When powerleveling you seem to miss out on a lot of content. For instance, I never once leveled in Buburima for example, because everyone flocks towards the Dunes. I'd like to go out and explore other maps and if I could find a likeminded linkshell I would most definately consider coming back.
