I think that this depends on the goals you have in the game, on the linkshell you are on and what you want to do. If you want todo wyrms, hnms. etc.. you need the best gear.... so i guess one thing leads to another.

Not saying that lvling isn't important, but wouldn't it seem more logical to have fun and be known for being a nice guy rather than "that crazy guy who leveled to 75 in 4 months?"

I'm what you can call.. gimped at 75 BLM, i am missing some very important gear, and i only got sleepga2 the other day after getting 75 for months, me, i play because its fun and because i like the people i play with which only adds to the fun, all i ever wanted was to be high enough so i could hang out with the people i love, that is what i have achieved, anything else is an added bonus and if people say im gimp, i reply with "wow, you have great skills at stating the obvious" :p and then they proceed to try and annoy me with further blatant display of stupidity that i just plain ignore, usually i /blist right after my first reply.

Sure some people just want to be the uberest. Me, i just /play/ with a game that i enjoy, like a box of lego for example, and i get to hangout with people from the other side of the world that also play for the fun aspect of playing. Not for the lame aspect of playing. Like the bully playing tag, who throws sand at your face just to win. But then you grow up and get a job, unlike them.

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

[QUOTE=Geto]When I played during NA lanuch that was my mindset. Get that high level and gear and have fun being kickass.

Right... the grind and burnout caused me to quit the game 6 months later.

Now I'm back. Different mind set. "Have fun. Do whatever. Take my time. Adventure. Help people and make sure they have fun too"/QUOTE]

Well said. I lasted about 6 months and WAR26 before I got burned out (after NA launch).

I came back a little over a year later as a 4WHM and your attitude and I'm having a blast.

Although, I do really like having +1 equipment. I don't strive for it, but come on! Who doesn't like having nice stuff?

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

I took monk to 67 in little under three months and almost quit due to burnout. In fact I had to change jobs to NIN to keep from quitting the game. Then I ended getting NIN to 50 in 2 weeks and am now 61 after less than a month playing the job. I guess I'm the type that just levels extremely fast.

I was one of those low rank high lvl people of which you speak. In fact I just got rank 6 two nights ago >.<. This isn't due to me rushing or anything its just due to the fact that it is hard for me to set aside a large enough block of time to do these missions. I had a job and wife that require a large amount of my time so I tend to not spend much time in the game adventuring or fooling around. When I actually have time to play the game I tend to strive to better my character.

I say do what feels good and screw others if they think you are gimp or not playing properly.

                You're gonna see at least some people doing the whole rushing to level to 75 thing; I still don't get what's god about 75... I haven't really seen A LOT of it, but just little bits here and there. As for the armour... Well I think everyone complains about getting the "best" armour; 'least everyone in one of the linkshells I have always complains about it. -.-;

                The giant fish was caught,

                By a Mithra which sought

                To fill her hunger.

                The Mithra was slayed,

I think the mentality of You have to have this gear to be good. is what causes this problem and leads to gil buying. I think it starts with AF. People think you HAVE to get ALL the AF, when in reality... only some peices of AF are worth getting (for some classes). This mind set seems to push the gil buying aspect for items that people think distinguishes a good player from a bad one. Ive seen people who insist on showing off their Hauby +1 or SH cause they think that makes them good at their job, when really they seemed to have focused so much on their gear, they forgot to be good at their job.

The pressure also comes from the other side... THFs who get kicked from PTs because they dont have a SH. Mages who are told they suck cause they dont have all the HQ staffs. PLDs who are called gimp cause they didnt have the 1 million to get Gluttony. (I could barely afford mine back in the day when they were 300k)

Oh, you dont have Joyeuse? Wow, how did you ever RDM get 75?

                  What kinda mentality is that?
I see the same thing with THFs. They freakin quit the job because they cant get a knife, that has pathetic damage, delay and a whopping 1% to TH, to drop. They are more worried about a status symbol than affording the 2nd best weapon for THFs... Blau Dolch.

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

Yeah that mentality of "you need this gear or you suck" is starting to wear on me a bit. I have to admit, when I started playing I was one of these ppl. Constantly sneering at ppl for having crappy gear or what I thought was crappy gear. I was lucky enough to have a RL bud who was already lvl 75 and in a HNMLS who funded me to 60.

After I started farming some while LFP I realized that expecting people to have a multi-million gil item on thier first job to 75 at lvl 40 or so was just ridiculous. It would take days of non-stop farming for someone to afford some of the "needed" gear.

Not only the effort of acquiring these items but also the effect of having them should be taken into consideration as well. In most cases the dude with all +1 gear may see a 2-5% increase in damage over the guy wearing merely acceptable gear. However, there are some jobs and instances where everyone needs to be top notch or it just won't work. (PTs that like to overhunt and HNM situations come to mind.)

Now, you can notice a dramatic increase in EXP flow if EVERYONE in the pt is pimped out. Last night for example I had my best pt ever at lvl 60 in gustav tunnel chaining gobs and crabs with WAR/WAR/NIN/DRK/BRD/SMN. Both WAR and DRK all had Hauby with the drk having +1 they also all had all the other pimp gear. I was wearing Hauby most of the time with dual sun-rings, mercurial kris off hand (ws every 30-45 seconds or so depending on how much i needed to cast) and other pimpness. Hell even the SMN had a vermy on ^^. We got 9k exp per hour with consistant chain #6-#9. I have NEVER had a pt perform that well at that lvl range without everyone being WELL equipped.

I'm not saying that 5-6k per hour isn't acceptable because it is by all means. What I'm saying is that if you want a pt to shine at the TOP of its abilities, everyone should have the best gear within reason.

I've gone off on a tangent here but w/e. The main thing is I used to think everyone needs pimpness or they suck but now I'm softening a bit. As long as the player knows how to do their job and doesn't miss the mob too much I could care less what they have on as long as its within proper lvl range (I've seen mid 60s mnks wearing full crow gear and using cerment claws before in an exp pt. That much gimpness should NOT be tolerated).

It amuses me when a pt mate sends me a /tell saying "look at that guys gear, no SH hah." Usually the pt members who talk the most crap tend to be the least skilled ^^.

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

I spent... geez, so much time before getting my Whm to 75... about 160+ days, didn't even craft, second highest was a 40 Blm. I spent soo much time doing stuff with other people that I was happy to take my time. I know many people now.

However, I have seen a growing trend amongst players rushing to exp as fast as possible. I am currently leveling Smn and seeing a Sam, Mnk, Nin etc wearing 'top gear' (SH, O. Kote, etc) that was purchased in the jumpstart Dec prices. They told me they want to get to 75 asap so they just used their holiday money to buy gear. The Mnk and Sam didn't know about SATA above 60 by having /Thf, the Nin was waiting for shadows to go down, then attempt to recast while being hit.

Not to insult skill, but what worried me was that they were constantly saying about what level they 'needed' to be by a certain date. On a Sun, a 61Nin said he had to be 73 by that Fri, that disturbs me especially since he was only rank 4, his War sub he said was at 30 max.

I can understand about wanting to 'rush ahead' and getting the good gear, end game content etc. However, you miss out on alot imo. Zilart storyline, CoP storyline, City storyline, and worse, all those PTs you partcipate in, names start to become a blur, you outlevel your friends. Logging on becomes a chore then at times you become upset by not getting to that 'next' level and what's worse, you lose sight of what you wanted when you bought the game: to have fun.

Yep, seems like the adventurer spirit is disappearing. I love to adventure and do quests and missions. I'm not really in a rush to level up.

It bothers you that people sometimes play all day trying to max out jobs and get 1337 gear? Maby thats how they have fun with the game. I for one had a blast leveling and getting new gear

Doesn't bother me. I was just stating that there doesn't seem to be any adventurers left. Well... there are some... but they are very few and far between.

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

Well i played since 2003 a month-ish after launch...and i still am not 75 yet..x_x I dont like particularly exping unless i exp with my friends(alot of my leveling was done with friends which is like rare..but when i do exp with friends its like blam...exp goes through roof). I like helping people more and its kinda cool how i am NOT 75 yet...although i want to reach it one day its just cool to not have a 75 job yet, maybe its just me though. I would like to get l33t gear too as in its something to do for me, i mean its not a rush, its just something i like to do eventually when i reach 75, just spend some time helping people and getting some gear on the side. Who doesnt want nice gear? But the difference is that...are you obessesed with getting luxury gear...or are you really enjoying the process of getting it..? I just know that when i fight for my AF2 body and hands i am going to enjoy dying a ton of times in Dynamis X3 So when i do get it, alllll right babeh.

Some people DO enjoy grinding though...my real life friend was convinced by another real life friend of mine to join my server and play, i was afraid that my newb friend wont like to grind through the beginning levels of the game...but he told me one day that he loved grinding, its just something he loves to do, and that he would like to try out DRK and SAM and get AF armor for cool looks and stuff. And i was surprised seeing that like..a huge majority of people DONT love to grind...but he did, and in a way...its cool too because you are doing what you love. Sorta like crafting, some just "loveeee" to craft over leveling like a friend of mine instead of leveling. All i can say is, if they want to get 75 and good gear and stuff, let them as long as they arent bothering anyone else and help you out.

But i am glad my grinding friend also likes to do other things besides JUST grind too...hopefully we can fight the dragon from 2-3 sometime and it will invite some more curiosity on the story for him as one of my favorite things to do is triumph over a boss and see more story with friends despite my lack of mission progression in general. Nothing beats team effort vs a tough boss.

Man, i had some bad parties where ppl were just like low ranks and all they got is the "best" gear. Totally bs on how some ppl tell you, get that, do this when one they never even lvled this job before or that hight or two, they're just plan exp hungry. I've been playing for almost 2 years now and still don't have a lvl 75 job. Just cause i want to lvl other fun jobs like thf(46) and my whm(58) is just there for helping my friends/ls buddies, do quests my thf can't do, unlock jobs or just kill some Worms... >.< evil worms...... Anyways, it's even more annoying when you get into these exp parties that tell you what to do,yet don't even bother doing thier job. Cause i just like taking my time and lvl and prep to have the gear ready. Either i get it or i don't, tough, things aren't easy for everyone to get and ppl should more or less know and accept that before saying they're gonna do this or get that high. Best way too play imho is to lvl different jobs to get the feel of then. Rank up, get fame and do CoP and ZM. Cause only reason why i lvl is to do ZM and CoP missions. And just for kicks i'm lvling a mithra all the way with mnk only when i don't feel up for being on my main char. But when i'm in exp espically with my whm, i'd expect ppl to know what their doing before judging on their gear. Cause i have a great tank w/ sucky gear and knew what they were doing in comparisson to this other one w/ af+"best" + hq gear in Terrigin who keeps saying we should get something tougher, and kept telling me how to heal them>.> Seriously, if your gonna tell me how to do my job, why not see what's it like then. Unfortantly he was the pty leader when i said that and i gotten kicked >.> Oi, some ppl need to stop being gear and exp biased and chill in some adventures. Well, that's my 2 cents, later
