I have seen the trend, well atleast in shiva's server, anyone at those levels always have very,very,very expensive gear

It's a very common trend. It's also not "new" - it has been here since MMOs first appeared on the scene. A lot of people have type A personalities that require that they be the "best", and for many, that means the best gear, the highest level, etc.

Personally, I try not to get too caught up in that. It's fun to compare notes with someone about experiences, but when push comes to shove in an XP party or mission or whatever I happen to be doing, the only things I care about are:

(1) Attitude

(2) Important gear*

Note that my definition of what gear is important differs from most. There are specific pieces of gear which are commonly available and make a huge impact on player performance for various jobs, such as NQ elemental staves. If someone is missing one of these critical elements, I'll downgrade my estimation of their ability, but if they still perform their job adequately despite having less impressive gear, that's fine. By the same token, someone who has all HQ gear will get a bit more of a raised eyebrow, but if they play like idiots, all that extra potential is wasted, and I end up rating them lower than the guy with average gear but good skill.

After playing for two years, and my highest job being 60BLM, right now I have only two goals in game.

I got lucky and made friends on Fenrir by the time i was level 4. I started playing 3 months ago with the mindset of getting to 75. I play EVERY DAY & ALL DAY LONG because I don't have a job, but I eventually changed my mindset into having fun. My LS leader has been playing more then a year and is still not lvl 75. She understands, Rodin, more then anyone I know.

I first started the game as RDM because I heard it's fast to 75. Now I'm a SMN because I've Heard it's a huge challange. Given the time to experience other jobs has made me appreciate this game even more, as I don't just play to get to 75. I play to have fun. everyday.

That's only because I have something I feel I need to prove to a certain someone. It's gonna be a long time before I get there because Excalibur is on my wishlist.

Lol, I guess I'll tell you all how this all got started.

My HNMLS had a large number of people apply not too long ago. These people ALL had on their applications that they were looking for fun, and didn't care SQUAT about items. (Even to this day, they claim they didn't say that, but my HNMLS leader keeps a copy of EVERY recruitment post in a private forum.) Anyways, they tended to be nice people, but they had a problem of showing up to triggers. One person, started complaining about how we never fight the gods that drop Koenig abjurations (Which wasn't true, they just hadn't been dropping them). He started complaining daily in the LS about how we're never gonna give him Koenig abjurations, and that when one does drop, a different PLD is going to get it. This was true, a different PLD was going ot get it, because he had gone to ALL the triggers. So one day, Koenig Abjuration drops, and we have the PLD that came to triggers lot on it. The other PLD gets upset, says, "FUCK YOU GUYS." Then uses a warp scroll. He drops his pearl, and we move on. About two weeks later, we had a few Kuwaiti players join. That Sunday when we were doing Kirin, an Osode drops. Immediately, the Kuwaiti players (all of them) start arguing amongst themselves about who should get it. And that they deserve it more. All but one dropped their pearls when my HNMLS leader told them that nobody could lot on it, because it was going to a different member who had been there about 6 months before them. One of them stayed. That next week, at Byakko, he ended up stealing some Haidate. That asshole was booted.

So basically my HNMLS leader (Zaniver) and I were wondering what the hell we're gonna do to make sure asshats don't get into the LS anymore. And hes says, "I dunno, as long as people just want 75 and good gear, we'll probably not get anyone who has a decent set of morals to apply." So I decided that I want to see if a lot of people think this is how most players act.

Well, right now, since we've pretty much cut away all the dead weight, we've opened recruiting again, and have made a process of getting into the LS. So it seems to be ok now. but WOW.....it's about a 5:1 ratio who think people want 75 and good gear.

Maybe I'm not people but..

I'm only 60, and have sky, and 1 mission to sea (that i'm doing saturday), been in three HNMLS's and passed on a lot of stuff because I wasnt high enough to need or use it. I don't want 75, and good gear, frankly I could care less. I'm just on this game for the people, and the journey.

Anyone that just wants the uber1337+94009843 gear and level 75 really needs to just cool down, it will come eventually. Just play the game & have fun, and that uber1337 gear and levels will come to you eventually.

My main goal was to be the best taru taru monk on my server but the times are changing and my goals have changed. Now I like to just chill and help my ls with sky runs and lvl here and there. All I can say is have fun on ffxi and dont take this game to seriously, too many people are sucked into this game trying to get the best gear and all jobs 75 and what not.

I like to play just to have fun.. but I do want the l33t gear. The problem I have is that I don't belong to a HNM, Sky/Sea, or Dynamis LS, because they tend to want me to adhere to some sort of schedule. It's a tough choice for me because I kinda static with a RL friend on the weekends, and my wife likes to play sometimes but not unless I party with her. I don't want to abandon them, but I see in game friends who have joined end-game shells and now they are pimped out. Most have started coming back to our social shell because they've "done it all". Decisions, decisions...

I got the game last year for my birthday and only got to 25WAR/10MNK for Jkid and 10 BLK for Komigo as of today. Guess what, I don't care, and I don't care if I stop there and just explore Vana'del.

I've been playing for awhile now, but I still have yet to reach 75. I play as BRD and sometimes WHM, but when I have the time to go on the game partying isn't always on my to do list. Most of the time I'm either wandering around, helping a friend, or farming if it happens to strike my fancy. The only need I have for getting to 75 is to go to the areas I have not yet been to, and to do the missions and see the rest of the story line. Gear? Its nice, I will admit, but I won't die if I don't have it. I would rather attend the event and have fun than to stress myself over an item in game that won't really earn me bragging rights elsewhere. If people were to praise me for doing a job well done, I'd be more proud of that versus what awesome piece of gear I was able to acquire...

I have good gear, but that's because I take time to study my job and know what gear would be good for my job. I strive to be the best RDM I can be, and take pride in my knowledge.

But, I should really pay attention to this party >.>
