How many bolts do you think i shot against a mob? or arrows? You are talking about out of 20 shots maybe getting an extra hit or two, but that doesnt translate to the next mob, so no, spending over 1mil for 1-2 extra hits on a single mob, cause despite chaining mobs you are still only fighting 1 at a time, is still worth more to me to get the bolts and arrows. And if you had read the post completely instead of just choping it up you would see that I asked my pt what they thought and once the numbers were crunched they agreed with me.

For the RDM thing, ok, but outa curiousity why didnt you comment on anything else? Was I that off, and how many times have you seen those RDMS get killed cause they misjudged the distance or the mob came over to where they where because they happend to be standing by the whm or blm (or in my pt both) and it just happends to use that AOE that they were out of distance from.

My point was that it isnt the gear that makes the player, does it make good players really good, oh yeah, does it make bad players good, no, nor will it ever, but just cause i choose not to have the multi million gil gear doesnt mean that i still dont do my job well and porperly.

For the record, not that you care, but in my ranger static i am a rng/nin, i am the puller, i have the ranger af, the ryl knigths belt, arement(sp) mantel, rangers necklace, francesca(sp) archers knife, Heavy crossbow, Sargna, holy bolts, gld musketeer bolt, darksteel bolts, acid bolts, sleep bolts, demon arrows, platinum arrows, bodkin arrows, wing earring genin earring, scorp rings. In my pld static i have the esien set, stamina ringx2, warrior's belt +1, nomad's mantle, holy phial(sp), two mp earrings dont remeber the name of them right now, happy egg, centurians sword, kite shield, currently saving for the merc earring. For my bard static i have a gold hairpin, af, 2 of the lvl54 chr earrings, 2 melody earrings, gleeman's belt, jester's cape, elegant shield, lvl60 sword with +??? chr and -4 agi (/sigh sorry am really very tired right now), garuda's dagger. In the thf static i am in i have a hornet needle, bone knife, battle gloves, life belt, spike earrings, verner earing, the lvl54 +3 dex rings (equip swap 1 ring and a sword belt for SA or SATA), nomad's mantle, federation facegaurd (made myself as i have never even seen that stupid fly) crow gaiters and brais for pulling with rse pants for attacking and SA (went 0/12 with rng/thf on the lizzard before i gave that up) the checkardboard body piece power x-bow and acid bolts, saving for next gear.

All in all every pt I have been in I have never had a complaint about the way I play or the gear i have, i have always made sure that I am not totally screwing my pt however nor do i feel it is nessasary to spend a million+ gil on any one job. I have spent several million on ranger over the past 67 lvls, but i will save gil where i can and that sometimes means going without the +1 leet gear and actually doing what i enjoy which is playing this game and not farming so much that it seems like a second job, go to that point once and almost did quite because people like you had me convinced that I shouldnt even bother unless i had this or that, and then i realized, they arent paying my time to play, and I am not paying for them to play so what the hell do i give a dam about what they think about me, oh i dont. I dont play this game for efficancy i play to have fun.

This has gotten way out of hand and I will close, i apologize to the people reading this, and Siber I will respect your opinion even though i disagree with it, i dont believe the gear makes the player.

After getting my seers gear for my blm (crown +1 ^^) I think a major part of the game is getting to 75 and getting good gear but some pepole take differant routes to that final goal, like helping others, getting rank, doing quests, lvling subjobs, BCNM, camping NM, crafting, finding ways to exploit the ecconomy ect. Personaly Im not in a huge rush to get to 75 but i do want to be consistaint in my lvling, and enjoying everything this game had to offer.

That was my mindset when I played many many months ago. I just wanted to get higher up so I could be l33t. What really matters is the fun you have along the way. Linkshell events, the ingame shenanigans(seriously, its funny seeing a DRG/WHM ask to join your exp party), the whole experience of actually finishing a difficult quest with your buddies. THATS what this game is about. Thinking about that is what made me want to come back and play this game after so long :D.

I'm a 55WAR at my highest, and I've been playing about a year now (after having quit twice and started all over), but I've taken the time to make sure I have just about every required and useful subjob for my main at 37 or higher already, along with many others that I might or might not need later on. I've taken the time to level subs specifically for leveling subs, and never once had the attitude that "since this isn't my main, I'll just play it half-assedly."

I've camped a large pool of extremely potent Rare/Ex gear, and not just for price, either, including Bounding Boots, an Empress Hairpin, 2 Shikaree Rings and a Peacock Amulet. I take the time to figure out what the absolute best gear I can realistically obtain for my jobs at every level I need to equip them at, and I get it. I even camp obscure gear that I'll only use for a few levels just because it's the best thing atm for me, like the Eisentaenzer.

I use food appropriate for my level and job type, and carry other kinds with me for situational use. I'm familiarizing myself with skillchains and I make sure if my job has multiple "ideal" weapons, that I keep them capped at all times, even if I have to skill up outside of XP parties.

I'd like to think that for the small amount of time I've spent in this game so far, I'm doing rather well, both in terms of gear accumulated and simply the way I play my jobs. To me, there are only 3 things that matter in FFXI:

Better levels.
Better gear.
And outperforming everyone in my level brackets as I move up.

So yes, I'm a part of the "trend" you mentioned, but no, I don't see it as a problem. Because I perform where others fail, and I genuinely do care about how I'm playing. I know it's not all about my personal damage record, and I seek to bring freshness and flexibility to the table.

If others think they're badass and they suck, they just make me stand out farther amongst the coal. But if they outdo me, I have respect for them, I compliment on them, and I try to learn from them. So it's never a problem either way.

Player skill > job > gear > food > race.

I play by that one code.

This is just the most common mindset for most players, I noticed: that a game is all about getting high lvl, getting all 1337 gears, joining the biggest LS(to leech their fame or whatnot), etc etc
Most people I met in game talk about, those endgame stuffs like those the only thing there is to FF; telling me how having a Shura Togi+1 will so surely make my e-p**** 1TB bigger, or whatever crap they can come up with...

But then again, everyone enjoy the game differently, I enjoy:-
-The story of the game
-Getting to see how easy/hard certain job is
-Getting to use different ja
So, to me, my final goal would be to beat all mission/quest; play the jobs I want, then I'll be a happy person.
But will this "fun" apply to everyone in game? doubt it.

It will annoy me, however, if the majority thinks "best onry", because:-
1. I am gimped, and proud of it.(Naw, I am just poor)
2. I will have hard time getting low level party, as people will only need 1 job to buff their e-p****.

I have noticed this alot too.

Everyone levels RDM or BRD or something to get 75 instantly, and I totally think it's lame.

I could care less about racing to 75, which is why I have been playing since PS2 release(minus 8 months) and have no 75 job yet. <.<

People's goals are often entertaining. I've known some people that are sure that they know what order they want to take multiple jobs to 75, when they're only 60ish in one and maybe 30ish in the other. I can't really say, though. Getting to 75 was an accident for me, a byproduct of playing. :p

yeah i been noticing this, i lvl very slowly becouse if work, and becouse i like to do mission (thats one of the reason i lvl so i can finish story mission) i found that it hard to pt with the same person 2 or 3 times, i pt with someone at lvl 64, 3 pt later i close to 65 and the other guy is already 66 or 67, everyone just rush soo much to get lvl`s fast, no wonder why soo many people start getting bored of the game o_O

heh i will prodly get acces to sky or get more indeph into cop history before hitting 70

Although I think everyone have right to play the way they want -- the definition of fun differs from people, I do think it is important to level up and get gear in a pace that is same as your skill. If you are great player with great gear -- is fine. If you level up slowly, or some what less umber geared 75, it is fine.

What I REALLY don't like is to see "high level noob" with an big altitude - People wearing kick ass gear, and talk bull, and does not even know why you should not cast DoT on a sleeping mobs -- and when told how he/she can improve the game, will call other person as noob.

Most people probably do just want 75 and good gear, but you could say similar of almost every other MMO. Personally, I just try to get as much enjoyment out of it as possible. I've been playing since a month or two after it came out in the US for PC, and I've still never been to 75 or near any of the endgame content. It's not that I don't want to ever get there, but there's still plenty of fun to be had where I'm at now. I'm sure most people would think sneak/invis'ing a level three paladin up to the Minataur in Phomoniua Aqueducts would be pointless (okay, it kind of is) but it sure was incredibly fun to hit Invincible and watch the minataur fail to kill a level 3 for that long. I also enjoy long walks through Ulegeurand Range dodging the true sight mobs. In any case, I'm sure there's still some people out there who don't care about 75 and are just trying to get the most fun out of the game.

I don't even really care too much about getting to 75. I've been playing since this game came out on PS2 (even though I play on PC) and I have yet to level a job past 32.
