when i first started to play the game, i really enjoy it. i met bunch of friends and we do party and stuff, as time pass people started to change. there are people that will not party with you unless you have the right gear, and right gear as being emp pin, leapn boots, and +1 gears. if you dont have those people will be like "omg he got sucky gear, he must suck lets boot him". you most likely will not be able to get in a party thats how my server was/is i'm pretty sure its still the same. i had to farm my ass out day night just to obatin some gear so people will accept me into party...i hate how the community is like this -.-; i play the game for fun, to hang out with people during my free times(not that i dont social with others IRL but i mean in game) to get 75 and good gear @ end game is part of the "growing up" in game, not somthing thats req..its fun thats matter not what your gear isComment

So true... 40% of my time is spent helping someone out with NMs, AF, or Missions. Spotting those players who havent *felt the love* of the community aspect, is easy and those are the types of players I like to help out. Most of the time whenever I'm in party I'm being advised about the equipment I should wear... _._ I know I may not have the best gear, but I'm buying it because it's the best I found! @.@ And on a few LS I've come to and went from they always start influencing what one PC should be, kinda weird... It's like minnie clones of them. ~.~ That freaked me out when three LS members where identical in everyway.

It's like the light side jedi in KOTOR. You are poor, because you spread your bling around. You still have fun though. Personally, I am low level, so I am not sure which path to walk, but I am mmaking many Friends in Asura's Windurst while slowly leveling, and the game is fun. There are some people who are all about the "i dont hve tme 2 cht nub i gotta lvl," and that's pretty lame. Sad part is, the virus is spreading.The endgame virus. Stop the virus. It is spreading.

The thing that I absolutely love about FFXI is the power of a well rounded group-style gameplay, something that most MMOs don't enforce often; While FFXI does encourage parties and grouping, mostly all people are drawn to are EXP parties. I suppose this is natural due to the sense that most MMOs and RPGs have conditioned their players to attain higher levels to gain better skills and much more powerful gear. But there are so many other things to do as a group other than EXP post Lv 75. But people are in such a rush to hit LV 75 that they really don't pay all that much attention to the much more subtle pleasures that FFXI offers. This , IMO, is what completely seperates us from being a mediocre Hack n Slash community (Even though we have alot of players who have been accustomed to kill a monster, get uber gear, gain a level, fatten your wallet mentality).Originally posted by Feenicks

And what are you rushing to? Of course there will be more options at higher levels, but you'll be doing so much grouping for everything at LV 75, You'll have no choice but to stop and smell the roses after a while. =P

I used to have that "Must get higher level, must have gear" mentality. I rushed from 50 RDM to 60 RDM very fast because I wanted my full AF. I spent hours farming because I wanted to have better equipment. Then I decided that I wanted to advance in the storyline more, so I attained rank 6 so that I could start Zilart. Well, that was fun and all, but I really wanted to advance in CoP as well, so I beat the six Prime Avatars and started leveling SMN up so that I could use SMN in the Promyvions and other parts of CoP. Only thing was, I had so much fun playing SMN that now I want to take it higher. So now I do want to level RDM again, but I'm not grinding so that I can get to 75 and have uber gear, I want to get my level up so that I can obtain Fenrir and Diabolos so I can level SMN up more... and so I can continue in storyline. So, in short, I suppose you could say that I'm slightly obsessed with leveling again, but I'm only leveling so that I can enjoy the storyline more.RDM 75 - SMN 72 - WHM 37 - BLM 37 - DRK 37 -

What we are all basically agreeing on (in round about ways) is that most people are here to have fun, and that the definition of fun differs from people to people, you know...kinda like RL :

The problem comes when two people of..uh...strong? personalities meet up but have different opinions on what is fun and wont agree to get along. imho HQ gear doesnt equal good players, but it does help good players do better. I own....0 pieces of "733t" gear, i use the full ranger AF vs pieces because i think it all matches better than piecing it all together with other gear, I have 2 signed scorp rings with i will use until i am 70 cause even though they arent +1 they are signed by a friend and that means more to me. With my bard the same friend signed a piccolo, not HQ but more precious to me than the HQ.
What we all need to know, and accept is that the idea of fun will be different from person to person. I have an RDM in my LS that insists on haveing every single skill capped...like every single one (and as an rdm he has a lot), but he enjoys doing that. Me i cap the skills i think are important to the job and am content with that. But he and I get along because we both accept that about eachother and we dont sweat the small stuff, this is a game no need to get all up in arms about a difference in opinion.
Is HQ and leet gear nice, well der of course is, but i am not going to allow that to interfere in what I consider fun in this game. I will do what i feel is nessasary, by researching and reading and then coming to my own conclusions, to keep my jobs decently equiped. And i do like to think about the what ifs, they are nice, but i dont allow that to consume how i enjoy my game or the way i play.
There is an attitude shared by a lot of people that if you dont have leet gear you dont belong, what i find nice is when i do better than them because they never learned their job because they thought the gear was the most important thing. If you are lead in a pt and you want everyone to have the best gear, ask when you are inviting, if you are seeking a pt and you want to be in a leet pt but that in your comment section (you just better be able to back it up
)
Eh just a long way of saying, enjoy the $13+ that you pay every month to play and dont sweat the small stuff.

If you're not going to try your best just because you don't like how it looks, you're wasting your entire parties time. Get the better gear if you can, or don't seek. I don't expect you to have all the best gear, but saying "I could have the better gear but I don't want it because it doesn't look good" is retarded as hell. The funny thing about this game is that everyone says every job takes "skill." If you mean motor skills (the ability to press Ctrl and 1 at the same time) and the ability to read and then acting on these simple tasks, yes, you're right. There is no inherent level of skill above those things though. The person is either ignorant and doesn't really know how to act on what they see (not a lack of skill, a lack of knowledge), or they jsut aren't paying attention. You can teach a 4 year old to MB, but you can't stop a 15 year old from playing Super Smash Brothers while partying.Comment

I would like to see some people take the game a little more seriously and help out a bit more. huh retarded as hell, lets do some math shall we. Signed rings, free, AF hands (which i use instead of the Nouc +1) free. So all that gil that i just saved on the +1 stuff i can use to oh i dont know, buy the arrows and bolts needed to you know BE A RANGER. And pardon me for the partial derailing here but it does take a bit of skill to do ranger, it isnt just finding the distance on where to stand, it is also knowing when to use shadowbind to keep mobs from smackin around your mages, how do the mobs agro, what links when you pull, what are the quick routes to the xp mobs, when will i need to be picky about what mobs i pull, when is it ok to pull in links. As far as the gear, i got approval from my pt, and their was a single voice of disent, before i choose this route, see he is a computer type guy and he crunched the numbers and agreed (eventually) that the +3 acc that i would recieve was not worth the amount of time earning gil to get it....so...yeah....

It's not knowing your job, it's just that you read the notes, and because they have better gear, the only reason you're outperforming them on RNG is that they're just not spamming or they're too close.
Actually i wasnt refering to rangers, i was refering to smn's that havent taken the time to test out different avatars against mobs, or how to use those avatars in skill chains, or for that matter what the different blood pacts do. I was refering to the DRK that doesnt know what the absorb spells do or why they should use them. I was refering to the RDMs that dont know what a refresh cycle or why they should have stoneskin up before they convert, you know silly things like that..
oh and uh not that it is any of your buisness but i am saving for the lvl70 gear that i will need when my Ranger gets there...cause yeah it looks cool and is functional, oh and by the way YOU dont pay 13 dollars a month for me to play, i do, so i will play the way i choose and you know what i will enjoy it because it is my money that i am using not yours, you dont want to pt with me fine stay in your server i will stay in mine and all will be good.
