  • Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

I've started to notice a disturbing new trend with lower level players. I've been leveling BLM lately. My main job is 75WHM. I don't really care about being the best, or having all +1 gear, or being in the biggest, baddest HNMLS. Yet, I've seen an increase in people saying that they always want to be the best....and in the majority of cases, they suck. Most of the people I've partied with at level 50, always bring up that they want to be the best, they're going to have full <insert gear>+1. That they're going to get a peacock charm, and be in <insert hnmls here>. They'll go on about how they want to be the most 1337 person in the game, and how they want the rarest gear and they have to get 75 soon, so this can all fall into place. Has anyone else noticed this? Does anyone else think that people just want to get to 75 and load up on as much +1 and rare gear as possible?

Also, a side note to support my theory, is that a lot of these people are level 40-50 and still rank 1 or 2. I've partied with more rank 2s at level 50, than I had 5 months ago in the dunes when I was leveling SMN. These people also lack appropriate sub jobs. It's not really NEEDED to have certain subs, but it does make you look good. At 75WHM, I don't NEED to have SMN, RDM, and BRD leveled. But it helps, and it gives me a good reputation that I take my time out and level my subs. I'm seeing more and more DRG/THFs without WAR leveled, and a LOT of WAR/THF without NIN subjob at 50.

I think that people in this game just want to get to 75 and load up on nice gear. I don't know if they want to have fun at all. My whole HNMLS seems to concur with this idea, and it has been a subject in many of our conversations. Do you guys think the same thing?

I don't see that so much, and on Ragnarok as well. I don't know who you been partying with. Then again, I haven't PT'd in the 50s range in a while. But I would assume it has to do with the fact they are just starting to get somewhat high in levels, beat Genkei 1 (and 2 maybe), and are getting thier AF, so they are all pumped.
But I always wondered why people want the best gear from HNMLS etc. If you enjoy doing HNMs, then that's great and you should do them. There's no point IMO to do these things if it isn't fun. It is a GAME after all.

I'm not asking if it's everyone, I'm just asking if people are starting to notice this. >_<

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

When I played during NA lanuch that was my mindset. Get that high level and gear and have fun being kickass.

Right... the grind and burnout caused me to quit the game 6 months later.

Now I'm back. Different mind set. "Have fun. Do whatever. Take my time. Adventure. Help people and make sure they have fun too"

I won't lose myself to the level grind again. I'm gonna go at my own pace. If that means that I want 5 levels in one day sometimes in a month, then thats cool with me.

My friends and I have returned to "adventure" and to play the story more. Plus, give back to the community by helping others.

I want Rank 10 more than I want level 75.

Rodin your LS itself has those people at least last time ^^
I dont go for +1 gear i go for useful gear meaning if a HQ and a NQ is only 1 INT or any stat different and the price is like 3M different, most probably i wount pay for it.
Kinda hard to explain it but if you see all the eq i had and use during battle changing sometimes and you will have a better understanding.

i want more to be a crafter then level 75

but to afford it, i have to level for famring, bs/ks-bcnm, access to new areas

and i want to play my job well, thats hard without good equip. that can be NQ, HQ, Rare/Ex or whatever

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

I've never given a damn about hitting max level and getting the best gear, in any game. My goal was to clear every mission, which I failed miserably. Though this particular game did instil a strong desire in me to have top of the line gear while still leveling. And not just in me, it seems to be very prevalent. And now that I've had time to think about it, it seems really wierd.

Might be the seperation of loot and exping, and the way all gear seems to be bought. Oh yeah...

                    [/derail]

                    Sorry.

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

Yes, It is a major trend, and it's a pretty big downer. FFXI is a great game, but its community kills it somewhat. Nobody wants to do anything FUN for chrissake. The majority wants to just keep leveling so they can get to 75, and be uber. Adventuring is slowly becoming dead in this game.

People go to the same tired leveling spots, but god forbid you even suggest a new zone, because your PT will type a collective "Hell No." I don't see why end game excites people so much. I have no doubt that it will be cool, but as of right now, getting to 75 in any job is just not my priority.

There are so many things to do in the game before you get high level, and get lost in all that HNMLS drama bullshit, that nobody likes to do.

Re: Do you think that people just want 75 and good gear?

There's alot to be said for taking it easy and having fun, but there's also a couple of downsides to that.

Firstly - anyone you regularly party with, if they commit themselves more than you do to advancing a level or two more than you regularly, you can no longer party effectively with them.

Secondly - there's also a lot of time in the game when you are left with nothing to do - off peak hours, friends / LS offline that would be boring, where you just have to commit to the grind of levelling some aspect of your character.

Personally I want endgame with a vengeance. I want my characters to have all their abilities as soon as possible, and the best equipment I can afford (even tho it wont be the 'best' best) just because I like to see my characters perform to the maximum potential.

I have a handful of people that I pt with regularly who if I eased up to do something else, like take a chocobo for a couple of days and have a look round the areas I havent seen a lot of, would pass me by and Id no longer be able to party with them.

The game is meant to be fun - if fun to you (like it is to me) is watching your character grow, get new abilities and armor / weaps - then at least I want to plough my time into grouping and grinding.

If your idea is fun, which I am really not meaning to be derogatory, to level several jobs, see what you like the most, associate with a lot of random players etc etc then go for it, and good for you - you'll probably end up seeing a lot of content that I wont.

For me I try and set out a clear goal for a character, and rigidly stick to it.

Over on City of Heroes I have a level 50 hero, thats the top so far, and I have seen more at the top level of the game then I ever have or could have whilst running through the respect surrounding areas levelling.

Once I get a single character to 75 and Rank 10 I may (and probably will) ease up - but as far as Im concerned its full steam ahead till 75. I've been playing for over 2 years or so now and had to take a break for personal reasons, but it definately wasnt burnout that some people experience.

If some people see a problem with that, fair enough, its your $13 bucks a month and Im not going to tell you how to play your character, but please dont moan about others looking for endgame, they pay their subs, let them play how they want.

I just got the game at the begining of the month and at the moment i want to get to lvl 75 just to say i did and to do endgame content, have ok gear, get the missions done and probably get a craft to 100 when i have enough money to invest. Is there anything wrong with that?

There isn't anything wrong w/ getting to lvl 75, getting to endgame, having the best gear, etc etc. It's just sometimes you miss out on some of the more important things: Helping others, making friends, doing LS stuff.

Not saying that lvling isn't important, but wouldn't it seem more logical to have fun and be known for being a nice guy rather than "that crazy guy who leveled to 75 in 4 months?"

                            That's just me though....

In regards to being a "High Level, Low Rank" player, a lot of people do ranks in all three nations. So once they get Rank 10 in one nation, and reap benefits of that, they'll change to another to advance the storyline, or what-have-you.
