  • Stupid question about "2-box", kind of.

Ok, some dude was /saying in jeuno that he does this:

    2 Games.
    1 Pol ID
2 Characters, both same ID, but on different installations of the game.

    Like so:

    COMPUTER #1, 1 Game + 1 Character
    ______________|
    ______________|_________________________1 Pol ID
    ______________|
    ______________|
    COMPUTER #2, 1 Game + 1 Character

So in the end, he only pays for one account + 2 extra characters... for a total of 12$ish monthly... or so he says.. is this possible?

No. If you attempt to log in on the same PlayOnline account via two different installations, one will be kicked off.
PSN ID - PaiPai Gamertag - PaiPaiMaster Steam ID: Pai Pai Master
    Rockman - Fairy

He may be playing on them one at a time. I've had my same install disc used on 3 machines since I bought it @ NA release. I also used the same install discs for both of my ps2's. But there's no way, not even through 3rd party software if I'm not mistaken, that the same POL ID can be logged in on 2 different machines at the same time. SE's servers won't allow it.

Yeah, I've tried logging in 2 on 1 POL ID before it's never worked. There does seem to be some options that I never spent enough depth or time messing with, but part of it seems to suggest giving something of a "guest" login under the same POL ID. If the guy is doing that I would think it to be through that source, but I haven't played with it enough to really say if that is actual or not.

Otherwise I would guess they are talking about using more then 1 system with the same POL ID, just not in a simultaneous function.

Well he used the "2-box" term.. isnt 2-boxxing playing with 2 computers at the same time? and he clearly said he only had _one_ pol id..

If he isn't lying and is truely 2-boxing and not just confusing the term. Then it might be that "guest" login to the same POL ID, if that is actually there. Like I said I hadn't messed with that area of the POL much at all. From what I have messed with, it almost looked like POL allowed you to setup a "guest" login but how to set it up and what not I don't know. If this "guest" login is really possible.

Probably have to mess around more on there to see I guess.

Re: Stupid question about "2-box", kind of.

No, the Guest Login in POL just let's you login using a different POL ID on a machine that said-ID isn't saved to. My wife uses it when she wants to login on my machine while the kids watch t.v.

It would take some serious network engineering and a fair amount of broken laws to accomplish what he's claiming he does. Sounds to me like he's full of it.

1nt3ns1ty is right. This guy is full of it, so I wouldn't believe a word of it Balfree. I've been 2-boxing for a while with 2 accounts. When I accidentally logged into my JP client on my PC which defaulted to the account I was logged in already on my PS2, game automatically kicked me on the PS2. It was near instantaneous, meaning that there is no way you can hack it either. Sorry, even a network genius wouldn't be able to pull it off. Anyway you call it, he's a lying to you.

                    * maybe he's not telling you the whole story. like that 2nd account is not his ... probably a hijacked account. so technically, yes, he only pays for one account. lolorz *

Maybe he doesnt know what 2boxxing is then i guess.. i never actually spoke to the guy, just overheard what he was saying to someone else, but that sounds the most obvious answer.

The term 2-boxing implies you've bought two boxes of the game and have two accouns.

It could also be lag....or just a glitch or mistake on SE's part that this guy was taking advantage of...

I, myself, has done this only once and cant accomplish this again.

I am the leader of a linkshell. Ive logged in on my main (which is now my mule) and wanted to give my mule (which is Gotti, my new main) a pearlsack instead of him just having a linkpearl. I was logged on using PS2 with my main. I used PC to log Gotti on, which is on the same account. Once I logged on with Gotti, I did a /sea all (main character).....he was still in Lower Jeuno.

I ran to the living room to see if it was true....it was. My main character was still standing there. Interesting. I switched Gotti's linkpearl to a pearlsack and then headed back to the PC. Just for fun, I decided to walk to my main character using Gotti (Gotti was in Port Jeuno). Once I approached my main character, I saw him dissapear...Im guessing he finally got booted.

Ive attempted this again quite a few times, but no dice. I dont know how I did it, or how it happened, but at least I was able to give my new main a pearlsack....which didnt matter about 1 week later anyway. I remade the linkshell with him. Im guessing I was 2-boxin for 5 minutes or so, BUT what was told to you by that other guy was most likely a load of crap. Im very doubtful that he was able to do this, and if so, it was only for a few moments....like I said, prolly lag.

Asked a guy from my old EQ server to post his 6-boxing set up.

Doesn't answer the question but enjoy...lol.
