    Re: Auction House Games

Yes, I kept the item. And yes, after two GMs had to get involved, the threats and /tell finally stopped. Of course, I don't know what actually happened to the three or four people that were bothering me, but it wasn't long before the search comments w/ my name disappeared. Well, it wasn't long after the second GM got involved.

Reputation doesn't mean as much as I would normally argue it to. The people who know you will continue to accept you, and probably be proud that you caught a break, and those that don't know you wont treat you any differently. If there's something that I've learned while playing FFXI, you can do whatever you want and so long as you're integral to forming their party at that moment in time they'll invite you anyways.

I don't disagree that you had every right to keep the item, but I just don't see why you have to go making a random thread to try and make yourself feel less guilty.

I don't think that's the issue. I think what he's trying to present to us the very real problem of those who don't like to play by the "rules" and then try to press an issue when they're caught "breaking those rules."

Now, I quoted those terms so that people don't take the expression literally.

I never saw anywhere in this thread where the OP gloated about this, other than to gauge public opinion on this matter and maybe open the eyes of those who have not experienced this issue before.

I think you need to take a chill pill - you seem a bit uptight.

TheMidg, I don't think he feels one bit guilty about what he did. I think he more just posted to vent some steam from how annoyed he was that a seller would try to go back on a sell price that they themselved put up and apparently wasn't even a mistake.

There's Federal Laws that enforce a company to sell items at the price they state, even when a company has the wrong prices posted they are still forced to sale at that price. On FFXI the seller choose with no restrictions outside of that he might not of been able to pay the tax for a higher price, yet the seller sold it lower so the seller has no right whatsoever to be complaining.

lol I remember a while ago, I was messing around with the AH(since I only had 37 gil left), and I went to the moat carp and jokingly put up all my gil for a stack, and I got it. Afterwhich, the person who I bought it from sent me a tell asking for it back, and I gave it to him, but it was too late...when I went to go check the AH again, 5 other moat carp stacks had been bought for 37 gil
I also regularly put up 100k on 1m+ items to see if I ever get anything. Sellers in Quetzalcoatl beware!!

Lol, around the time of the US release Oct. 2003... You could quite more frequently then now usually get high priced items for only like 10 gil. During those times players REALLY tried to cheat the system and this was before the more expensive tax was put in place. The fact that the guy didn't put it at 10 gil like in the past and put at a respectable 1mil indicates he was willing to loose a lot still, so it was his loss.

congratulations on making a good purchase. you should not feel guilty about this. i do it everytime i make a purchase on the ah. high dollar items ill bid 100 or 1k to start.i saw a scorpian harness +1 bought for 450k, considering they are over 40 mil on midgard some one got an awesome deal. seller had sold more than one so he should know better. you should have never been harrased. if a person is trying to cheat the system or to lazy to enter price he wants for item, then he should be willing to take a loss, without whining about it.

I don't particularly agree or disagree with your choice to keep it, but your reasoning for it is flawed. Did you try to bid 500,001 gil? How about 501,000? How about 510,002? Just because you dropped the belt for 1 mil doesn't mean that is how much he had it listed for. You're saying the belt was selling upwards of 4.7 mil, someone could have easily been trying to sell it for 5+ mil and accidently dropped a 0 off the end.

Of course there's no way of really knowing. But to deny it the possibility of being a mistake is an error.

                        Re: Auction House Games

The AH game is fun but so is the bazaar game. I can't count the number of times I have found someone in Rol. Fields with something underpriced as hell in bazaar. I do however remember the last item because it just happened last night:

Royal Knight's Belt in bazaar for 20k gil ^^. (I listed it on AH for 150k when history was 250k and ended up getting 200k for it.)

                          Re: Auction House Games

Of course there's also those people who do the opposite with bazaars and overprice things. Like this one guy I seen recently with four roses listed at four different prices ranging from 4k-10k with a comment about 'Buying flowers for valentines day'. Or another guy I saw once with a Scorp claw in his bazaar for 4 mil (this was LONG ago) sitting outside the bone guild with a bazaar comment saying he was selling a V claw cheaper then AH.

Grats on the deal, more people should be lucky enough to get that. It's a shame that so few people actually TRY to buy things cheaper nowdays. The reason everything costs so much now is because too many people have more money then they know what to do with and spend it all without a second though. I myself undercut things regularly, often times by 10% of the current sales status if not more. But very rarely do I ever lose money cause people always bid at or higher then the last sale.

Though next time I'm in jeuno I'm definately gonna go bargin hunting. With anyluck I'll be able to get one decently expensive item for ubar cheap. Heck, it might even be something I can use. (b' ')b

                            Re: Auction House Games

Even thought I'm not playing at the moment, when I was playing and I was bored in a city with nothing to do, I would play the AH game.

I think it was back in November when I was in Jeuno, I was just looking through the rings and I was bored, so I bid 5k gil on a Courage ring and I got it. I was surprised since they went for 30k a pop. I thought "What the hell?" and I bid 3k on another one and got it.

I only spent 8k and got 60k worth on stuff. I was only like a lvl 20 WAR at the time and 60k was a lot since it was my first and only job.

I wish I were lucky enough to get a 4.5 million gil item for cheap like that. lol I'd just resell it for a profit. That's of course if I'm not at a high enough level to use it yet.

lol yeah I hate the idea of selling your items at full price, when you are "giveing away all of your items" because you are quiting........

                                Re: Auction House Games

Just an update on this... Today I woke up and check my /tell log, and sure enough I have yet more /t from this player. Three of them in fact. Now, keep in mind that this person has been /blist and removed from my friends list, so there is no way to legitamately send me /tell.

They aren't logged in any more, but I call a GM any how (third one to deal with this issue) and explain that the person isn't exactly being rude any more, simply... won't leave me alone. Poor guy, I don't think he knew what make of the situation. By the end of it, I was comforting the GM while he apologized to me for the continued harassment despite /blacklist ><

All of this, weeks later, because the person I baught from wants to buy back the item and re-sell it at the normal price (probably before prices drop from 300bilion gil sink account ban, now).

Anyhow, has anyone ever heard of being able to get around /blist like that? I know they can by using POL viewier if you have them on your friends list, but she's not on mine. Are there known cheats that can do this? No, I don't want them, I just never heard of such a cheat.
