hmm, that makes a lot of sense, I wouldnt be surprised to see it happen that way. Darkhound, would you like to tell some of the other secrets that most smn wouldn't know? (Like me seeing as how my smn is only lvl 25 ;P)

Well, yes to some point you are correct, but if you look at this sphere color its black, meaning he is dark bases, now if you add up all colors the result is the color white not black. So also, correct me if i am wrong but i am pretty sure is dark based, to my knowledge the only non elementarl avatar or summon in FF is Bahamut!

Mix every color light and you get white. Mix every color ink and you get black. Well... not quite. But it's farther from white than black.

Which made me think a bit (oh God it hurts :p). I know I'm stretching here but... fire and lightning make light, air lets it pass unhindered. Light. Stone, water and ice reflect light (stretching here) and/or absorb it. Dark. Two kinds of energy, two fluids, two solids. Nice and symetrical. Almost ties in with the above paragraph... color from radiant energy versus color reflected from matter (which is absorbing the light, kinda negative and dark-ish itself.)

Heh, I had that thought too, way back when. Quetzalcoatl and Palidor (or a thunderbird going by that name) could work for Fragmentation. You can see a bird that looks like Palidor beneath the dark hroseman in panel 3 of the pics in this thread. For distortion, the only one I can think of is Rydia's Mist Dragon or Faris' Syldra, but both are tied to their particular characters. Which leaves... Bismark... or something new.

Well if diablos is darkness and a second lv. of avatars wouldn't they add a new light avatar to equal out the elements. Something small like Madeen. It makes sense kinda. who knows.... all i know is i think the last avatar will be Alexander. And that is gonna be one hell of a quest.

Think of it in terms of which weapons havn't been made into a reward from an avatar yet.

I would think Phoenix would reward a katana or great katana. Odin would reward a polearm of sorts. Alexander could reward a great sword.

Personally I think there's too many club and staff weapons already offered by the current avatars.

Well, all of you have given very very valuable points of view and i appreciate that, howerver, phoenix and odin are classic summons that would be a shame if left out. I guess we will have to wait and see, but I am sure that something will be added on the next expansion!

Zantetsuken (if it was added at all) would be his astral flow ability, and probably most/all NMs would be immune to it (or possibly it might work if they are below a certain HP level, at which point some other avatar could probably have killed it anyway). I don't see it being that game changing, although it could certainly save your ass from a link and maybe add a new strategy for some BCNMs (A lot of BCNM enemies would probably be immune, but you might be able to use it on the small fry in Steamed Sprouts/Worm's Turn/Tails of Woe/etc). When was the last time you saw someone Ruinous Omen Kirin for 25% of his HP?

Similarly with Flame of Rebirth. The *normal* effect of summoning an avatar in most previous games (except X) is equivalent to the FFX overdrive/FFXI astral flow ability, generally. Again, it could change certain BCNM strategies to be able to do damage and raise your party with the same BP (I assume the damage would be less than Inferno, since they can't exactly make the MP cost higher); some special fights are already planned under the assumption that AF will be used. But in normal situations, you'd use Phoenix for other BPs or not at all.

Based on storyline, there's some reason to expect Phoenix and/or Bahamut to appear in game eventually (as summon quests). But based on FFXI gameplay, there's no reason to expect Flame of Rebirth or Mega Flare to be spammable and take the challenge out of everything.

Even if it was the case, what use is it to add the ability in the first place if it gets resisted or if NMs are immune? Then you already explained to us why SE won't add Odin. Either way, it's not a good idea, really. In any event, since we don't have Doom, X-Zone, Death or any of those cheese abilities tied in with any job class right now, I don't expect that to change for the duration of this game's lifetime.

The other avatars I can see appearing in this game (again, if at all), since none of them really had overpowering abilities - well, except for Ragnarok's Ultima. But then again, SE could tone that down as well.

Don't take the avatar possible abilities at face value. Just because Odin may had a 2hr that is useless against a lot of mobs, whose to say that Odin has to be used in many situations?

I saw 3 SMNs 2hr Genbu down to 10% with Diabolos, so even if Odin was in the game, and even if his 2hr was Zansetsuken, and EVEN IF it wasn't workable on many mobs, with the variety that a SMN has to choose from, there are many other avatars to choose from. Just wanted to point that out ^^

I'm guessing it wasn't at the same time. It would have to be more like clockwork, one after the other, all nine times, so the tank wouldn't lose too much hate.

I thought all the hate went to the avatar and not the SMN, so after every astral flow when Diabolos despawned, that all the hate went away too.

I was really curious how they were going to make a Demi ability w/o overpowering it. It would seem they couldn't figure it out either. Perhaps a cap for amount of life taken? It is a 2hr so it should be pretty viscious, but essentially knocking off a lesser god in a matter of a few short moves seems rather ridiculous.
