always got him, to get him, but really never used him. never cared for the berserk spell inflicted upon any of my team. Umaro just was a ...

How cool is it to be a Pirate! No other MMORPG I know of even has an class like that! ^_^ it would be really cool if you could purchase your own ships and sail 'round the world, fighting monters, or just fishing. Even better though, would be an option to raid another ship and take their Gil, and make them walk the plank; then burying the spoils somewhere! I cant stop thinking about this new Job, its so awesome! it makes me want to come back and play again!

its not a Pirate it is a Gambler class, and there are alot of pirate MMOs out there and also Ultima online you can basicly do that

A: We thought of adding a gambler to ToA, but outside Japan the impression of "gambler" isn't so great so we went with Corsair. Basically it looks like a pirate but is essentially a gambler type.

I think the Corsair will be pretty good. I can't wait to see how they actualy have it play in game.

ALL, I repeat all jobs are useful, Sadly its the players limited imagination that makes them unuseful. Trust me i can do things most summoners can't ^^.

What do you guys think the prerequisties will be to get these new jobs, bluemage and corsair? Obviously they inplemented Diabolos, thus giving us slackers incentive to start CoP again, and now being finished CoP, im wondering how far one must go to unlock these jobs. Then again, i dont want to see 8/10 people LFG being bluemage or corsair, so im assuming itll take all missions done from all expansions (except ToA), but you must reach a certain chapter of ToA to fully quest / unlock.

Is that what they meant about gambler having bad associations outside Japan? But then, what are the associations *in* Japan for a business that was controlled by the Yakuza for centuries?

I think they meant that the word gambler, as it means in the english language, has negative connotations with regards to addiction and loosing. The entire industry is built up around the fact that people are stupid and loose, which makes them want to win more, which makes them loose more. Just a guess.

And you think this won't apply to the behavior of corsairs in-game? I can just imagine a corsair PC using a Goblin Dice-like ability on a 10% HP Kirin and rolling "heal target to full HP"... Maybe SE will design the job so that unlucky rolls either do nothing or only hurt the corsair, not his party/alliance; I sure hope so.

Anyway, corsair basically means pirate, which means someone who steals ships and their cargo, sometimes murdering their crew in the process. What great associations that has. It's like thief, only more violent!

Then again, I guess warrior, dark knight and ninja don't have the greatest associations either. So why the sudden concern? Do people really think about gamblers *more* unfavorably than thieves and pirates?


I expect the new expansion job quests will not require any expansion other than TAU, level 30 and no fame or mission requirements, and be completable by a party or alliance of 30s (although it may be more convenient to use fewer, higher level characters - I wouldn't put it past them to use 30 cap BCNMs or areas though, to keep the hordes of high level players from just powering through them with no challenge.) SE has been consistent in the past at having only one bar to jump over for advanced jobs, I think it's a policy with good reasons behind it and that will likely remain in place. After all, that only allows you to be level 1. Anything beyond that you still have to earn.

That's not saying that there may not be some abilities that can be obtained easily with a higher level other job and/or require expansions/missions not required for the job itself (Fenrir and Diabolos, for example); but they won't be crucial to the functioning of the job in ordinary PT situations. In fact, the video of BLU using spider slow pretty much confirms that BLU, at least, will benefit from having other expansions so they can fight monsters in those areas and learn their abilities.
