Cities, Favorites and Preferences...

(sorry if this is the wrong section to post it... it's sort of a general question, I guess)

I'm on my way to re-entering Vana'diel and was hoping some of you could give me some insight as to how the nations fare in terms of player preference, etc.

When I first began, I fell in love with Bastok. It was drab, gloomy, semi-mono-chromatic and hot, but it was just the place my character would call home. I remember that we used to have some trouble keeping up in the standings (on Titan under 2 years ago) but there were always a lot of people around that helped make it feel inviting for me. Even the Gustabergs had their own charm that I loved... nothing like sitting atop the hill in the north watching the sun-set.

Anyway, if I were to join next week and choose Bastok as my home nation, what would the player population be like. (I know it varies from server to server, so) What's Bastok's player population like on your server or what are the top citites? Do people even hang out in the capitals anymore?

Bismarck is still pretty shaky. No real top dog for the past few months (which is good and bad depneding on ones preferance) I dont think the main cities are as packed as they were when the game was released. People still flock home for events to collect cards, eggs and whatnot. Ive been a Bastokan since Beta, it just had an appeal to me. Getting rank 10 was awesome. Once my LS finished with other duties, I think we'll change nations to experience the other storylines- but I'll always come back home ^^ Each server is different Im sure, so its really hard to say.

i think starting cities are just empty all the time.... atleast theres almost no spam... i like the old spam now its too quiet

the starting cities aren't epty on my server. i'm sandorian though, but when i walk through bastok on my mule or w/e i always see plenty of people walking around >.>

People don't spend much time in the lower-level cities, on the whole. They come in, get their supplies, sell what they need to, and head back out to grind. After a time, they're away, in Valkurm Dunes.. then in Jeuno.. then in Qufim and on and on.. The lowbie cities are really only necessary for starting home-nation quests after a time.. and some people I've known of didn't even do that.. They just power-leveled their fame by doing the repeatable ones over and over, avoiding the regular quests almost completely.

In all, though, I do still still see people consistently around Windurst. No matter what part I'm in or when I'm on.. there's always people there.. fishing, etc... mostly hanging out at the AH in Wind. Woods.

I'm not sure about other cities, but Windurst seems pretty populated most of the time on Midgardsormr. Not that I'd ever recommend coming there.

.................................................................. not on my server. Every -single- zone with an AH has major lag 24/7. I have R between 1,200 and 2,700. It's like a lower Jeuno in your home town. There's as many Rank 10s as they are Rank 1s huddling the AH window. There's as many players in their Guild rare/ex clothing (+ enhancement to a craft) as there are players in their level 1 RSE. I have no idea why, but maybe it explains the wicked inflation you'll find on this server.

It really is Hell ...

Cool, thanks guys. I should be getting my new copy of the game sometime this week, so I think I'll be starting up in Bastok, regardless of server. Seems like it won't make a huge difference anyway... I just didn't want to be the only guy running around the city.

I don't know what the rest of these people are talking about.

On Asura, each city is filled with people, both high and low. There's even alot of people in Kazham, Selbina, and Mhaura.
Don't even get me started on Lower Jeuno.

I figured Jeuno would be. I remember Jeuno (almost every part) was pretty busy. Except for the top tier.

One thing I remember most about Bastok is the people running here and there... a lot in the market, few in the mines and less still in the Port. But no matter where you went, you turn a corner on the way down to the Alchemist and see the odd person huddled in a corner.
