Re: The Mog House?
some of the furnature has additional effects. for example, having beds in your house can give you moghancement: experience, which reduces the xp you lose when you die. placing other furnature can give you different moghancements which increase the likelihood of success with certain crafts.
there's opther things that can be affected by the way you decorate your house. it's not just for show.

Re: The Mog House?
here is some information that might help to anwer your question-
some items/furnishings that you can put in your Mog House actually add to your Storage capacity, a part of the Mog House that is only available in your home kingdom. Some items can add up to 4 slots in your storage section, allowing you to keep more things.
a good reason to add a bed to your Mog House, is that certain beds in certain conditions, activate quests that allow you to increase the maximum space of your Mog House, again, this allows you hold more things for later use. Mog House Safe quest
another thing to consider, each of the furnishings has an elemental attribute associated with it. depending on what your net elemental effect is in your Mog House, you can have all sorts of enhancements, like reduced exp loss when you die, better gardening, better fishing, to name a few.
so, its not just window dressing.
hope that helps
