Hey I have currently found out that this game is coming to my beloved X Box 360, and since X Box is my main console I decided I would buy the OXM issue 54 to participate in the Beta Testing for free, and buy the game when it comes out. Besides what Ive learned on the official X Box.com FF XI forums, I dont know to much about this game. I was wondering though, because I have played Shadowbane before (And EQ, but fuck Evercrack) what are the "Conquests" like. Are they like massive battles between Players of different nations, our massive battles against NPC forces... either way I think Conquests would be cool, and see them as something that could take up a considerable amount of gaming time in FF XI. Thanks for your help.

Heh conquests are not as grand as they seem. If you want massive battles against other players you do that in something called Ballista. There are two teams in any match with each team representing one of the three starter nations. It's quite fun when you get into it but you have to be fairly high lvl to really enjoy ballista. As for conquest, it is a tally of which nation has killed the most beastmen and monsters in a specific region. Whichever nation has killed the most during the week gains control of the region and gets several advantages.

Thanks, yeah I heard about the Ballista to sounds the equivalent of the EQ Arena. Nonetheless, even if Conquest isnt all I hope it will be, be resposible for your nation controlling a region, seems like it would come with much glory and reward.Originally posted by ThoronasComment

Conquest in itself is usually a passive activity in the sense that rarely will anyone take an active role to change its course. People will party for EXP normally in certain areas, and the nation who had more collective EXP while avoiding deaths in that region will take over. However, through Expeditionary Forces (which are large-scale battles against beastmen...usually an alliance of 18 people) one can take over a region in about an hour or two to my understanding if you're successful. If you have a lot of gil to throw away, you can even take over the newbie zones surrounding main cities (you can't EF in these) by trading a LOT of low level equipment (and I do mean a lot, bought in bulk from NPC shops) to the outpost guards. It's uncommon for people to take matters into their own hands, but it can (and has) happened.

Wow, can you really take on that many jobs for one character, or is that just a few characters. I was thinking of taking on WAR RDM and BST, but not nearly as much as you.Comment

One character. Heh, I don't really level much...been playing two years. There are people that got to 75 on their first year, there's people with two or three level 75 jobs, and one guy even got all 15 jobs to 75. Just do what you like ^^Comment

yeah that is what got me into FFXI was the fact that my character can be all of the jobs, so if you get bored you can do something new, and when you are ready you can pick up the other job where ever you left off

sorry, give me a sec... there is very little pvp in this game. i know it's been said before, but conquest is not any form of pvp, and is not massive battles against players or monsters. most people, to be honest, simply ignore the conquest because you get very little from it.
conquest is the accumulated total of exp that the players acuired this week, compared to the accumulated total of exp acquired by players of the other nations. it's not treated as anything competitive most of the time. all conquest does is change what items are sold by certain npc's, and it makes minor changes in the cost/availability of outpost warps. but most people buy most of their items from the ah most of the time, and outpost warps are still available no matter which of the three nations controls the outpost, so conquest is largely ignored.
"Garrison" is where you gather an alliance of 18 players or so, and fight in a pvp-like battle against three waves of mobs. but they aren't done very often. i've only been in two in a year of playing.

It couldnt be as bad the Evercrack, use to play that game sometimes 72 hours straight in a row, with no sleep, little food, and little time spent outside the computer room. I dont think FF XI will reduce me to that.Comment
