Lol the game has nothing to do with the economy-the players do. If your going to blame anyone blame craftsman and gil sellers. And I dont blame the buyers cause to get anything in this game since so expensive I guess they buy gil. But craftsman overcharge-come silent potions 20k its not that good to be that expensive. Bison steak 30k gil come on food fake or not shouldn't cost that much-craftsman charge this not anyone else. They say they charge higher because items for it are higher? Why are they higher cause craftsman from other trade or fellow craftsman-thank you very much. I can't blame game makers for this problem it based on community I blame them.
I agree with Kalel. Considering that many crafts are done by level 1 mules who can't go outside of town without being slaughtered in cold blood by a level 4 monster, there's no other option besides buying stuff on AH to make things with. If the items on AH are overpriced to begin with, then the crafter perpetuates this problem.
The remedy would be for a crafter to farm up the items him/herself, but we have a lot of players with ADD and would rather use a VISA/MC and buy gil than go earn their crap legally ...
again i would vote but there doesn't seem to be an option for "Unless i become unemployed and can't afford to play anymore, then the only way i'm leaveing is if SoE pulls the plug on the servers."

erm <.< since someone has ADD dont make them a gil buyer
I've played too long and put too much effort into my character to simply delete it. Also I've met a lot of people that I normally wouldnt have by playing this game. Until they all go, I'm staying put. :D
Heh, I've got just the same attitude lol, To many great friends now to quit & not see or hear from them again.

Lol! yes! That is my answer! We should make a new poll & have that one of the 2 answers XD
Yay, Ty for this Eohmer~
Silentsteel - Taru of Awesomeness on Valefor
80 Whm, 86 Drg, 40 Sam, 37 Blm, 31 Smn, & lower as it goes down... I have way too much play time for no levels, lol.
So, if i understand you folks correctly, you ARE saying this game stinks as it stands, but it is better than the possible alternatives?
Seems you are just looking for more than one reason to quit. Dont demoralize others...
FFXI has been very stable compared with other MMO's. Have you forgotten about SWG banning all those people for having innocently received duped items, and GMs teleporting people into space for protesting? Not to mention they REDID the whole class system and actually took out certain classes leaving some people without characters. What about the WoW incident where they had to refuse players for a period of time due to too many players. Bots and hacks were far worse in EQ, and what about ROs constant server hacks and player rollbacks. How would you like to have to go from 65 to 75 3 times in the course of 3 months and lose items because SE cant keep hackers out of the servers?
Ive been playing for 2+ years now and the only thing I will quit for is if all the friends I started playing this game with quit and the ones Ive met playing too. Things maybe bad, and if SE does try to fix it and piss people off, until my character is hacked, my class removed from the game, all my items removed from my character cause SE isnt sure if I obtained them fairly, or teleported to who knows where that I cant retreive my character for speaking my mind... I think Im fine right here.
Been playing this game a total of 75Game Days, 14 hours.
1814 hours put into this game.
You know what someone of my abilities could do with 1814 hours that is not video game related. If I studied Quantam Physics as often as I played FFXI, I would have solved world hunger, cured cancer and made a time machine, all in time for dinner the next day.
Quite frankly, I look back and that's a lot of time spent gaming. Of all the games I have, ever, none add up to that SHEER AMOUNT of gamage, even if I add them all together, every game I ever played.
Not quitting till the game is unplayable. ppl with families play the game, ppl in the military play it, it's all about making time, and with a flexible game like this, time is limitless. How long have some of you other ppl been playing? (note: I knew some ppl who put 365 days+ into this game around this time last year ;.; Yikes. . .)
If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?

As hard as it may be, don't take this game or your characters too seriously. I promise you - the guys that really own your account don't.
Like a lot of other people here, I have no intentions of quiting. I have played for far too long and invested way too much time into playing the game to simply quit. Plus, I am attached to my in-game character. In essence, it is a part of me; and I can't very well throw away a part of myself can I?
As far as the economy goes, like Kalel stated; that is more the player's fault than the game's. Sure, the gilsellers play their part in the inflation. But like he said, the craftsman who hike up the prices also play a part in the inflation. I have spent a lot of time working on various crafts myself. I am nowhere near being in the higher levels, but everything I make is with items that I farm personally or trade with from other players.
To use the example of silent potions. Recently I crafted a stack of those things using items I have acquired. I checked the AH to see what they were selling for and was shocked to see them going for 20k plus. I simply kept hold of them and figured that I would, like many of the things I usually craft, give it to some adventurer that may need it.
Anyway, my point is that it is the players that make the game worth playing. We all have a reason that we come to play, and I enjoy the time I spend playing the game. Sure, I take breaks from it time to time, but I will continue to play until the day SE decides to quit making it worth playing.

It is not my intention to demoralize others. you cannot walk through jeuno and not hear people complaining about this problem.
I do find it unfortunate that players take an argubably exceptional game, and exploit it in ways the designers never intended, such is the way of things.
While i do put the majority of the blame on the gil buyers, heck if noone bought the massive amounts of gil for sale this wouldnt be an issue, my real problem is with S-E currently.
I have been in communications with them about this issue, and let me say it is frustrating at least.
While i am dissappointed in my fellow players for taking the easy way out, I am more concerned with the lack of action that S-E takes on such a widespread problem.
This was the statement from S-E that really burned my butter While it is not possible to change our policy regarding Real Money Trades for any current online Square Enix title, it is possible that our policy might change for future titles, although no decision in that respect has yet been made.
The reason why i made this post was to hear what others thought before i made my ultimate decision. You have all provided thoughtful comments, and for that I thank you.
in other words, they said they're not sure how to fix it yet, but they'll try to learn from their mistakes, and hopefully not have this problem on future titles.

Song: (Don't Fear) The Reaper Lyrics
All our times have come
Here but now they're gone
Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain..we can be like they are
Come on baby...don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand...don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly...don't fear the reaper
Baby I'm your man...
