  • How is Bastok these days?

I'm going to be buying the game very soon. I'm not exactly sure what race and job I want to be either.

I do have a question: how is Bastok? I bought the game back during the PS2 NA release but I stopped playing it because it looked to dark and because I was playing it on a crappy tv that cut off some of the edges. I remember Bastok used to always be third place in conquest but then sometimes second place in Ballista.

My question is, and I don't want to sound ignorant, do good players from all different races choose Bastok as their starting nation? I remember I was running around with a Hume mule once and I started talking to some JPN people who chose Bastok as their starting nation. Also, do the majority of Humes choose Bastok as their starting nation? What about Elvaans? Do many choose Bastok as their starting nation?

The reason I ask this is because to me Bastok is a very big city with a really nice music theme that screams heroism and adventure. I think I also want to be Elvaan but I wouldn't want to feel like an outcast in Bastok.

Im a Galka now, but I've played as many Races, and even with all of them, I still chose Bastok as my homeland simply because I could get to Rank 2 at lvl 5 .

As for Conquest, on my server, Bastok has been in 1st place for the last 3 weeks, which still surprises the hell out of me. Even before then, we've been in 2nd place for as long as I can remember, though back when I first started, we were always in 3rd.

As I tell many ppl, you shouldnt base you Race on which country to start of in or vise versa. Just pick one. You'll still have the same amount of fun.

Man, I remember on Ragnarok that Bastok was always in last place.

Pretty awesome to know that Bastok has done so well.

Every server is different. On some servers Bastok is the dominant nation, on others it may be San D'oria or Windurst. As for races and nations, every nation has a wide variety of races. I know many Taru Bastokans and Elvaan Windurstians and Hume San D'orians.

Oh I seriously thought Bastok was last on almost every server.

If anyone from Ragnarok can do so, would he or she mind posting the nation rankings?

          Thanks.

Well I know you asked for Ragnarok, but here on Ramuh this week it's 1) Windurst 2) San D'oria 3) Bastok. However, in the past 2 months Windurst has always been 3rd and Bastok and San D'oria have been playing leap frog for 1st.

Re: How is Bastok these days?

Rankings are pretty variable on Middy, though I think Sandy comes in first most often and Bastok least, from what I've seen. Upsets happen. Indeed, I was witness to (and played a small role in) Gustaberg falling to Windurst, and Sarutabaruta falling to Bastok the following week. Being without an airship pass, I really enjoy being able to zone Windurst Waters > West Sarutabaruta > Metalworks

I'm surprised, actually, at the population of Bastok on Middy. It's certainly the most common place to find Humes, but the sheer number of Tarutaru I see roaming Bastok is staggering. I almost think they must outnumber the Humes there. Aside from the fact that Taru seem to dominate the population of both Bastok and Windurst, the adventurer population seems fairly diverse, with many players choosing each nation in equal numbers regardless of race. Aside from a notably low tarutaru population in Sandy, but even then they're hardly uncommon.

I don't know how it is on other servers, but Odin has a fairly wide range of races from all cities. Even so, bastok is consistantly in 3rd place behind Windy and Sandy. Most the time Bastok is in "Second" they are allied with Windy. Still, its easy enough to find a wide range of good players from there.

Re: How is Bastok these days?

Bastok is almost always 3rd on Quetz. I think Bastok got 1st 5-6 times in all of 2005 (that's out of 52 weeks). It just depends on the server. However, rankings are largely irrevelent for 99% of your playtime. I actually like it because I wear items that have benefits outside your nation's control, which is most everywhere.

If you thought ffxi was too dark, did you try uping the gamma under config settings or increasing your tv brightness? FFXI can be very bright, you just have to change it to how you like. Your tv might just be set dark.

Last few weeks Bastok has taken off on Fairy. We've routinely been 2nd for the last few weeks with the occasional first. This week we're first and even have Saruta to claim our own! (I have a SS, I'll post it when I get home.)
