Role-play?

Hi, I'm new to FFXI, having come over from Ultima Online. I'm an RPer and so far from what I've seen on the server I was put on, Hades, that the RP is.. lacking. Course, maybe I'm not looking in the right places?

Anyway, is there a server on FFXI that has a good, large RP community? If so, which server is it? Thanks to whoever posts a reply.

there is alot of RP missing in this MMORPG -.- your best bet is to find an RP Linkshell (player guild) to get into, I am on Pheonix and in Mithra Pride and we RP mildly, but....we get really silly too :p

MithraPride on Remora was full of male mithra players. Lots of cybersex. :/

The RP in this game is your character, your job, etc.

As for RP here in this game, it's really nonexistent if you mean RP in the traditional sense. Otherwise, Role Play, as Sweetkitty posted, is your character, your character's job and what you do with your character. The game never really let's you be involved, since the focus is very technical rather than ambience (e.g., As a NIN, your focus is on +eva, not if you're a wisecracking lecher that talks like a pirate)

I wouldn't go so far to say nonexistant. I think it's more to the fatc of alot of people just aren't into it.

The best bet is to find a nice RP community and go from there. ^^

the closest thing i get to role playing is, when im playing thief, have a lot of "Picked <t>'s pocket" emotes on an unused macro pallet. and that's about the most i've seen in game.

this game is just too darn, white-knucked intensely technical to be distracted with role playing (for the most part.) you reach a point that you feel like a one point difference in dex could make or break the game, like 1 point of str could mean the difference between beating the boss or losing a hundred hous of xping. i'm not saying there's no room for role playing in ffxi, i'm just saying there's not MUCH room lol

This game has a very, very good story with engaging characters. There is no point to roleplay.

hmm the best role play i saw was a jp brd who is still a new player to me. She is very
可愛い aka cute with her role play too. Before the party gather together in valk dune, only like 3 of us are at the camp and she was singing song and dancing away with her emotes and macro song script which is very funny n real cute lol.

I never know human has such a nice emotes combing together.
Only know taru has some nice combine emote lol

Well, I did party up with a new jp player, who knew next to nothing about anything on how to play the game. It was funny, because he was annoying the heck out of this Rank 7 jp player in our party as well (This was in Dunes, btw) But it was interesting, and it made me remember how it was in beta, when everyone was new to the game and role-playing did exist, although it was mostly with /emotes. He was really into his character though, but I feel sorry for him, as he won't be tolerated nicely as he progresses through the levels and get partied up with Rank 10 HNM players who have a telephone pole shoved up their @zz.

WoW actually has a decent story, though I like FFXI's more. Anyways, I've met this one Tarutaru female who role played and added ie or y at the end of random stuff. She got pissed off at a warrior once for not provoking and even said "fuckie fuck fuck! Use your provokie wokie dumb arsie!" I got a nice kick out of it...if you want to role play, go ahead. Just don't over do it.

Well as stated before, your best bet would be to find a group of people who enjoy RPing. It's easy to RP in this game, just not many people are into it. I recently started a static pt with a few friends with the sole purpose of RPing. Though getting EXP is more or less the same, you can easily explore areas as a group, talk and fight and run around in character and do whatever RPish thing you want to do. The only thing is finding others who like to do it too.

You could try checking the server forums at KI for an RP LS or asking around on other FFXI sites. I know that there are a few around, so I'm sure you'll find one eventually. In fact, I remember someone posting about starting an RP LS on their server here not too long ago. If anyone has any info on what happened to that shell maybe they can help you too.

Just gotta keep lookin, I'm sure you'll find somethin.
