  • Here me Out

I think it would be appropriate to have a Download section for the Games its self.
I know for a "FACT" that many users have Broken there discs and can not get new/replacement "ANY WHERE"
I do not see any reson for why PlayOnline and Square ENIX can not supply a new disc or ever more convenient a Download Page for download a CD image version..
Many places like FilePlanet would Host these Files for all of the World.
There wouldn't be any seriouse "ISSUSE" of pirating copys, non that would loss FFxi any money as FFxi and POL need Keys to make accounts and enable games.
Having a download section for the FFxi and POL/extras would have an advantage of having more "UPTODATE" versions.
As i quote again and Stress that the Fact is PlayOnline and Square ENIX dose "Not OFFER" any CD replacement for there customers.
Lossing a customer because he/she can not install is a stupid reson not to offer some form of replacement,
Its not always the "USERS" fult that the Discs happen to get braken or damage.

I feel this is an Issuse that PlayOnline and Squear ENIX need to recognize as a big problem and do some thing about it.. i send a few sagestions off to PlayOnline but there never any life or progrestion in it.
they need to Take notice of this!

The discs are easy to copy. For people concerned about the safety of their original ones, copying them and using the copes is a smart and simple route. As Sweetkitty said, it is possible to get the disc replaced. I for one think SE has no reason to repalce a disc if the person who owns it cannot take care of their own property.

So... You know this for a "FACT" eh?

Some time ago when I bought my third account (EN this time),
the disks I got was faulty and unable to install from them.
So I mailed POL Support and and was given a FTP where I could download
ISO images of all the disks (4 with Rise of Zylart).

The FTP got is not active today, (got too widespread and was abused?),
but I don't see why they can start a similar service again.
Or it they may have a similar service up already, have you asked?

Oh btw, you could at least have check if the links you posted works before
doing a sloppy copy/paste job on several forums.

              Re: Here me Out

I really don't understand how people can get their disc scratched or damaged ...

Fact: You only need to install this game once, provided you don't host virii and other mischievious gremlins on your PC (PS2 don't have this problem - yet)

Fact: Every CD comes with jewel case. It's not paper sleeves! It's a plastic hardshell designed to protect the discs!

Fact: You could never play FFXI in your car unless it's on a laptop with a seriously reliable Wi-Fi connection, so how do people's CDs end up in their car only to warp from the heat?

Fact: If you have a problem with your discs immediately following a purchase and on your first install, please contact POL support.

They can still get broken taking them out of the hardshell cases, this happened to me the day I bought Breath of Fire 4.

They brought it somewhere, or they were moving and it was forgotten.

                    Re: Here me Out

The minority of people that do stupid things like leave the discs in a hot car or break them, deserve to have to go out and buy another set. The game is WIDELY available so this ""FACT" that many users have Broken there discs and can not get new/replacement "ANY WHERE" is a bunch of bs. Take responsibility for your irresponsibility and just go out and buy a new game and quit whining!

                        Re: Here me Out

I have had my discs since NA PC release. I have used them many many times (computer reformats, new computer, new hard drives, multiple installs so I can play on multiple machines, etc). They're still in perfect condition. Take care of them, and it shouldn't be an issue. Don't leave them laying around. Put them in their case and put the case in a safe place (CD shelf, regular shelf, cabinet, etc). The only warrented thing is a disaster of some sort (earthquake, tornado, fire, etc), but if that happens you'll have a lot more to worry about than your FFXI CDs.

That will be only your second install. So what's your point?

They can still get broken taking them out of the hardshell cases, this happened to me the day I bought Breath of Fire 4.
CDs are made of plastic too. They are not made out of cigarette ash and will not break immediately upon removing them from the jewel case/dvd case.

Pro-tip: Depress the plastic tab in the center before "pulling" on the disc like a nub. Seriously, I bet half the people posting here do this ...

                          They brought it somewhere,
If you bought a game and paid money for it, I don't see how you would forget them in your car. Seriously, only an idiot would, considering you went out of your way to drive to someplace to buy it.

or they were moving and it was forgotten.
I can see this happening, but in reality, those small items would be put in a container with other small items, right? When you are moving, you don't just drive to the next place and leave your shit in the car. Most people that end up moving themselves without renting a U-Haul or hiring pros will need to make a second trip and a third and a ... get my drift?

The last one really isn't a fact... more of a tip.
No, it's a fact. If you got any problems and issues relating to PlayOnline, Final Fantasy XI Online, Final Fantasy XI Online: Chains of Promathia, Final Fantasy XI Online: Rise of the Zilart, Tetra Master Online, Front Mission Online, Fantasy Earth and any other PlayOnline affiliated gaming software, you need to call support, as it is mentioned frequently in your game manual.

                            Re: Here me Out

I installed my game twice because I have a laptop and a main computer. My main computer may be going into a maintence soon (got a 250 gig hd for x-mas), I will be installing ffxi for my 3rd time. I know that I won't need to grab all the updates from ffxi server because i can just grab the updated files from my laptop

I'm down to 2 gb with call of duty 2 & Sims 2 & Navyfield (shamless plug http://www.navyfield.com) various applications, photoshop, fireworks, dreamweaver *sigh* I don't want to re-install everything, it's going to take forever...

Too few and far between to warrant what the op is saying. Thats my point, hence the use of the word "minority".

So using the op's logic then if I misplace/damage/break my game disc for lets say, Dragon Quest VIII, they should provide me a d/l somewhere so that I can burn it and not have to buy it again. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.........
