  • When someone goes around shouting in Jeuno

That they want to buy the following items ...

    Kirin's Osode
    Speed Belt
    Marine M Boots
    Eurytos' Bow
    Panther Mask +1

... what is your first thought that cross your mind?

Only reason why I ask is this person ... used to be a friend. I tried to help her out, by lending my SH until she could equip her Assault Jerkin. She was saving up money for an SH, among other things. Even wanted a Hoplite's Harpe I had (Inheritance from a friend) and was making all kinds of promises to pay me back.

Well, never heard from her in a month then all of a sudden she's sporting an SH+1, Kraken Club and other things. Mind you, she's not in an HNM LS ...

Now she's on her friend's account, spamming shouts to buy items like the one listed above.

Does this indicate ... gil buying?

I would suspect it myself too. unless she got lucky and got a few kraken club dropped... xD I played for many years, was in hnm ls for a while and my gil barely moves that fast. need weeks to make 10m.

If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...
I dont know about your server, but hoplites dont go for too much on Fairy. Only a cpl hundred thousand at last check. Still dont know why someone would pay for an osode when by that lvl you can easily get in a hnmls and get the drop in a month or two, assuming you're near the top of the lot list. Going from scraping for a few hundred k, to sporting a SH+1 and shouting for all that (probably close to 50 million combined), I'd have to put money on gilbuying.

        Caspian,

It used to be around 800K here when she asked for them. It was probably the only useless, yet expensive, item I had in my inventory. At one point, I was offered a Vermillion's Cloak for my SH and now I regret not making that trade (VC is now 12 mil, SH is only 5.7 mil)

There's many things that come to mind. Maybe she was one of the few people that was able to capitalize on the recent inflationary trend or she got a real lucky drop and has lots of gil to waste.

Gilbuying of that magnitude boggles the mind. If she is, I wonder how she affords all the RMT.

Maybe she's been crafting on a friend's account that has high level crafts or something. You're looking at spending a few hundred dollars to buy all that if she was to buy gil to get it, which is pretty insane.

first of all ive seen this many times, with several players. but the real issue is are they buying gil? well probaly or they have a really rich friend giving them gil. my point of view is i have never bought gil. but i have thought about it. real life money is to hard to come by. but farming in game to make gil is alot like working a real job. its not for me or anyone else to decide if buying gil is wrong or right. thats a decision for the person playing the game. i feel like buying gil is cheating and takes away from the game, which i put in long hours of farming to have better gear. you were nice to them once maybe they will be nice to you.

Re: When someone goes around shouting in Jeuno

the situation now is quite bad for legit players imo. whenever people fins way to make gil, S-E usually nerf them. cut fish price, reduce drop rate, change drop to rare-ex, makes NM pop time longer, nerf desynth, and etc etc. while they hurt the gilsellers, I must say it hurts legit players with limited play time even more because now majority of players can make less money in the same amount of time. There are ways to make gil that doesn't seem to be affected such as mining but these past years I must say the nerf are favour more towards gilsellers.

Items price are going up up up. the gil players can make are going down down down. And gil is such a big thing right now, with out it you can't get a hand on any of those tempting gears. Overrated or not, scorpion harness/ hauby / vermillion / etc you can't deny everyone want these for their jobs.

oh, vermillion went up from 4m to 12m now that AQ no longer drops damasc cloth, and igqira has gone up from 1m to 8m already. rediculous. whatever S-E is trying to do, it's obvious they are making the economy even worse and not even close to fixing it.

Recently someone quit on our server and gave his account with everything in it to an ls member. The person had a few 75 jobs and had been in a HNM. So you can imagine how rich this made our ls member. It would be nothing for him to sell several items and be shouting in Jeuno for some insanely priced piece of equips. But then again why do that when everyone is going to assume you buy gil. >.<

Yup, space it out. Slowly buy one thing at a time. Wait for someone to shout for a sale, then buy it then. Most likely, people who notice you wearing all your new gear will be more likely to know the real story than some aquaintance (sp?) who just happens to see you shouting for all kinds of crap at once.

Offtopic: Jei, you mentioned mining. Does anyone know what "changes" were made to pickaxe breaks in ifrits cauldron?

                      TGM,

The issue is this: while it might not be out of the realm of possibility that this person could've gotten "lucky," the clincher is the fact that this person used to be a friend of mine and I knew all the connections this person would have (which is to say, isn't very much) First of all, a melee job that barely cracked level 70. Just got Sky access. Is not in an HNM shell (I see no reason for anyone to just donate stuff blindly either) nor is associated with anyone that I know of who is.

We're talking ... 350 million gil worth of items in less than a months time. In another month time, now asking for items worth 50 million gil and possibly more ... also just recently saw this person to have in possession a few other "toys" that would blow your mind and floor you have you seen it. Even if some high level walking god donated that stuff, that wouldn't all go to one person, let me tell you that much. Any high level walking god should have "several" friends to take care of ...

Well seeing as there is no real way to be sure if the gil was bought or not, or it could have been something else like, a friend quit and gave her money or something like that. I know when I used to play on Kujata my friend quit and gave me all his gear and gil which added up to be 30 mil or so. But who knows what it is heh.

Re: When someone goes around shouting in Jeuno

I cant agree more on Jei's insight on FFXI economy.

SE has always been actively manipulating the economy by controlling drop rates, NM spawn timing and their respective drop rates or even wat they drop!!!!!

The whole trend has created one strange scenario, if only they would conduct a statistical analysis of money-in-hand held by players, SE will most likely discover that a high percentage of the money (gils) in the economy is in the hands of a handful of high lvl players. What I am saying is end game players exchange among themselves ultra-expensive gears and render some gear in mid-lvl ultra expensive as they can afford them with one end game job at HNM LS. If u consider the stat +1 gear contributes vs their respective price increase, its almost a joke on such drastic price increase. But thats it, ppl with gils to spend, further intimidating the new players in our community.

The trend will in return make the game more difficult for new players: consider 2 search comments:

                          "War, lvl 15, <subjob> <need> <help> <welcome>
<please invite me>" (also checked as rank 2)

"War, lvl 15, your choice of subjob ^^)b,
All +1 gears, melee skills capped" (also checked as rank 10)

                          whom will u invite? !!!!

The game has becoming more and more difficult for new players to fit in and excel. The population has been getting old (in terms of player's lvl) and players staying are pushed to go back the round track to lvl another job, these returning players nurture the culture of requiring of one end game job to climb the ladder.

If you look at all these new gears, or even AF1 +1, u will note its just some stat + and some stat u let go, i.e. all these equipments are further broken into respective usage in different circumstances, thus enhancing the endgame (i.e. I mean the game is at its end) feeling.

We should let high lvl players to go on with their lvl pursue. A further increase in lvl cap should be introduced much earlier, I wonder wat will happen when WoW's expansion is out (with lvl cap increased), we may say WoW players are players seeking an "easy" online game. I doubt so, when u look at their nos. of player, u will wonder if Blizzard is doing something right and continue to response to players' pursue; while SE is continuously doing many things to justify "their" design, sending high lvl players back to low lvls (with high lvl supporting finance) to compete with newbies. New players come and go, not necessary because the game lacks the content, but maybe the game lack the space for them to grow and lvl.

not to mention there are not much reason to level low level jobs. I find it extremely hard to get parties from 10 to 20 these days. Everyone seem to be busy with end game and merit points. Even worse when I play healing or supporting job, everyone seems to use PL and invite onto DD now. Just make me glad majority of my jobs are 30+ already.

think SE will make some drastic change (possibly around the 360 release) to attract the new players? compare the amount of players around the time of the NA PS2 release to now, notice the slow de-population. is it even possible to change the economy where everyone can benefit? >.>
